From past experience the only tip I can give is to cycle the sumo with other forms of deadlift. Sumo was very hard on my hips.

I can confirm this too. Seen many at my gym doing huge leg presses and their legs are huge too, yet I never see them squat nor deadlift.
They just leg press and leg extension.
