    A good way to build up your strength for pull-ups is doing heavy pull-downs. Keep doing whatever pull-ups you can though that is truely the best way even if you can only do 4-5

    Why are you worried about heart rate while lifting? Unless you are looking to get some cardiovascular benefit out of it then I don't think it really matters what your heart rate is at.
