How do you manage cardio/weight training?

How many times a week do you do cardio and for how much? In your expierience, do you feel doing cardio delayes gains in strenght and muscle? Aside from football alI I do is jump rope and going running (always with intervals, never steady state), 3 or 4 times a week but I was wondering whats your...

Is this workout split optimal?

I have started a 10 day training program, in lieu of trying something new. 2 days biceps and triceps together. 2 days shoulder and chest together. Rest day. 2 days legs. Rest day. 2 days Back. Rest day. Is this a good split? I am worried I am putting too much recovery time between each muscle group.

Is there a body weight set point? Found this recent podcast interesting, maybe others here will as well. They discuss different theories of body weight/body mass regulation, including the «set point», «settling point» and «dual intervention point» model. I had personally heard of the...

Melatonin kinda sucks

Took it 2 hours before bed for a week (300mcg) and I kept waking up every 2 hours. Now its got to the point where I wake up every 30 mins to 1.5 hours, worst sleep ever wtf. I was taking it because I had got used to sleeping at 3am but this seems like its not helping.

"Activity level" while doing Fierce 5, for TDEE calculations?

So I am trying to use one of those online TDEE calculators to figure out how many cals I need, etc., and one of the questions they all ask is my activity level. I have been following the Fierce 5 pretty strictly for the past several months and rest on my off days. What would that put me at, in...

Eric Helms inspired 5-day FB

I came up with this routine after reading the 3DMJ training book and watching some YouTube videos of Eric Helms talking about full body training, where the leg volume is spread throughout the week, so there are no workouts that suck (I've always dreaded leg/lower days). ...

New to lifting

Hey fam. I started lifting a month ago. Starting to see results in my biceps and am able to do 2 pull ups (never happened in my life). Wondering when I can expect to see gains in the chest? When I flex, I can feel movement that I never felt before. I've been doing flat bench, incline bench...

Let's Squat 5,000,000 pounds in 2021!

2018 we had a squat thread, goal 10,000,000. We got almost 4,500,000 that year if I remember right. This year, all free weight squats count: barbell, dumbbell, kettlebell, water bottles, bricks, backpack full of books, concrete plates, heavy pole, or anything you've got to squat. Just weigh it...

Is monogamy friction toward progress?

Men have an instinct to be polygamous; women have an instinct to be hypergamous. What drove human evolution is the majority of women would pair up with men with most status. This means men who have the most intelligence, physical attributes, or aesthetics. Societies implemented monogamy as was...

Over 35 Misc

Losing fat is such a slow process.

I'm 165 after pooping in the morning. I want to get to 140 pounds. That is 25 pounds to lose. At a pound per week, that is 25 weeks, or 6 months. 6 month. Wow. It is possible to lose 1.5 pounds per week safely for the first 15 pounds, 1 pound per week for the next 5 pounds, then half a...

grouchyjarhead here. Long story short, thought I reset my password, sure didn't, and can't recover my account as it's on an old email address. Whatever. Here's my new one. I'll try to catch up as I can to those who I used to follow/help out. Over the weekend, I completed the GORUCK Tough and...

Bar for overhead squat

Anybody do these? This lift is a cross-fit thing, which usually I have no interest in. I find this lift very interesting... It involves a lot of core strength and balance. I have done clean and presses and squats forever. Combining the 2 is very challenging. I am considering a 15# technique...
