The prime mover in any deadlift is not any of the back muscles. It is the glutes and hamstrings.

I use wraps on my work sets. Do I have to? Probably not. But why not?

Using straps feels like cheating? Mixed grip accomplishes the same thing: they allow you to lift more weight than you could otherwise hold.
