When I see proud banners on product saying “Made with real cheese” and chit like that, I cringe thinking what the fuk were they feeding us all this time? What were all these regulating govt bodies doing and thinking while these companies shoved chemicals down our throats? Some of us consumed them under the impression they were vetted or even good and healthy options.
If you think about it, in the “dust storm” of fake and real information, combined with this virus being a thing of recent present, not enough data (well kinda enough I think), and all kinds of good and bad opinions, we are simply just believing what in our opinion is true and makes us as an individual truly comfortable.
For some this comfort may come from not wearing a mask atall and not believing in/trusting the vaccine or even claiming there is no virus and for others (like me) it may be that “fuken chit, it may or may not be true, may or may not work, but in my opinion it seems vaccine has a very low percentage of adverse effect, so go ahead and take it and masks, well, they can’t really harm anyone unless the masks themselves are unhygienic (I keep mine squeaky clean and change it out if it gets dirty - like every week or two)”

Oh, got it. I thought you were implying they would have increased protection which would be hard to determine given the extremely low number of confirmed reinfection. I would expect to see increased immune response, but so far the short term circulating antibodies don’t seem to be the factor in post infection immunity (cell mediated immunity Ts and helper Ts seem to be driving that).
Even if there are increased breakthrough infections in vaccinated people, they appear to be resulting in mild disease, I would hope that the mild breakthrough cases would result in additional natural immunity. I wasn’t suggesting going for natural immunity as a public health strategy, since we have vaccines that are effective, but it seems that is the route some people are going to go based on vaccination levels in some states. Of course there’s always a chance of vaccination levels naturally picking back up in the fall when some of these areas start to see significant caseloads and corresponding deaths in the higher risk groups.
Why is the WHO / CDC now indicating that a booster would be dangerous for vaccinated people, when in all likelihood, elderly and immunocompromised might need them by the fall?

You know what, I’ll spell it out for you since you seem to want everyone to listen to your ideas and talk and point of views but you don’t want to listen to the same of anyone one else’s; I’ll wear my mask till I feel comfortable taking it off. We’ve been dining out and I’ve been kind of relaxed with my mask in public places and at work - I’m gonna go ahead and start being more careful again. I don’t know how you handle your mask, but I handle it only from the strings that go around my ears.
Inside of my mask touches nothing but my face. I do rest my mask on the table (on a napkin) - cuz no other option.
Buying insurance mitigates risk but it does not guarantee that you’re not exposed to that risk.
Like I said, it was a personal decision we made after getting vaccinated that we’re gonna start eating out again and going public places cuz you know gotta live too. Setting the mask down on the table exposes us yes, but it’s better than not having a mask on 100% of the time.

I haven't seen the data or details on which populations are at increased risk from a vaccination or from which vaccines. I was only responding about the potential for increased immunity because we really don't know if there's any improvement, but there is some reason to suspect there is. Based on what I know, I think the only reason to offer a vaccine to someone who previously was diagnosed would be if they're a high risk population and their infection wasn't actually confirmed by PCR. If someone has antibodies, I wouldn't vaccinate them.
The correlation between antibody levels and cross immunity in viral infections is interesting. There are too many things I just don't know to comment intelligently on the nuances. I don't even know if we can measure the level of mature cd-4 and 8 cells that recognize the COVID antigens attached to the MHC1, or if that correlates with circulating ab levels. Interesting stuff, but I won't learn it until it gets into a big journal or I go to a presentation on it. Not my area of expertise, but now that I'm thinking about it, I will ask a buddy I'll see tomorrow about measuring specific mature T cell levels. Seems much harder than an assay for an antibody.

It seemed that there was still a LOT to learn about immunology when I was in school. I remember a lot if “we don’t fully know/understand that yet” responses. My focus was microbiology/ pathology in that realm of things. The discovery of CAS9 / CRISPR was well after my time, but that seems incredibly interesting for future medical implications. If 30+% of the human genome is “junk” viral genetic material what can be done on that end of things. It would seem to be that long-term immunity “hides” in our DNA. It would also likely have implications in curing genetic diseases sickle cell etc.

My son read about CRISPR in an MIT tech journal a couple of years ago. Guess he was a junior in HS at the time, and he thought it had potential. So I read the article and I bought a little Editas, Crispr Tx, Intellia, and Beam for each of my kids. Wish I'd bought more, obviously, but my kids might be able to retire on it someday. Or, we could discover a bad long term side effect from off target edits and all 4 could crash and burn. I'm watching Precision BioSciences too and invested a little in them. Not sure how well their system will work in vivo, but if it does, the fact that it takes 12 times as long to design and produce doesn't bother me. Once they design the tool, there's still 4 or 5 years of studies and ramp up, so if crispr takes 5 years and one month, and ARCUS takes 6 years, who cares. That one could be a sleeper. Maybe they'll spin off a division that will cure male pattern baldness and become a trillion dollar company :)

Yeah, in a way it’s necessary to an extent. The people who understand things in greater detail are the people in the industry, I mean it’s not like the the average politician understands things like agriculture, pharmaceuticals, weather, geology etc etc. it’s been going on forever. Back in the 1800s railroad tycoons practically ran parts of the government, before that it was companies with ships. I think it’s necessary and I am involved in special interest groups in my industry, but at the same time there needs to be a level of ethics and accountability.

No one knows for sure (mostly no one I guess). I got vaccinated a month or so ago after holding up for a while - cuz I wasn’t sure what the right thing to do is. After seeing the recent development of delta, I’m sort of wishing I had waited a bit longer. Our plan was to wait till 1.5yrs and finally caved in cuz not dining out and being chit worried doing outdoor/indoor activities was taking a toll on my sanity.
Oh well we shall see...

Based on all the data I've seen you made the right decision. There are times where wearing a mask makes sense even if you're vaccinated, but a blanket mandate at this point doesn't seem well supported.

I just learned about it a year or so ago in a Netflix documentary “Human Nature” or something like that. I’m sure it will take some time and effort to get to the point where it is able to be used effectively, but seems pretty amazing. Not sure of the ethics involved since it could also be used to make super soldiers who feel no pain etc. All because some yogurt culture maker saw the genetic changes in bacteria that were not killed by viruses that inadvertently tainted some culture batches.

Couldn't agree more. And the numbers agree with you. China's economy is up nearly 8%, meanwhile we're facing 5% inflation. All by design.

Basically a lot of drug medication isn't as effective for women as they are for men. Because most studies use all male or majority male mice.

Here is the Cliff Notes story: Early last month I called a random CVS and asked the pharmacist which vaccine they had and he said, "Pfizer."
I went to a CVS in another city and assumed I would get Pfizer. I did not even ask. Got the first shot and my card which I promptly put in my wallet. The other day when I finally looked at my card, it says "Moderna."
I then did a search on CVS vaccines and most stores have Pfizer, Moderna and another one. So, my fault really for not inquiring when I went in for my first shot.
I would have preferred Pfizer, but whatever.I will accept the Moderna.
