I am double dosed and in excess of 3 weeks post shot, so i am considered protected but I don't plan on dropping protocols just yet, a bit of hand sanitization and throwing a piece of cloth on when going into a store for a few minutes isn't a big deal besides it may even stop me from getting the flu or common cold.
I'm vaxed but not there yet - I do see social distancing has become a habit which I'm fine with.
If I ever have to wear a mask in the gym again I won't be happy, if I gotta wear it in the store that's not a biggie.
This should be a joke, but it isn’t. The CDC is ending use of RAPID PCR tests for COVID as of 12/31.
Going forward:
“CDC encourages laboratories to consider adoption of a multiplexed method that can facilitate detection and differentiation of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses”
Did you catch that?
“Labs should switch to new tests that can differentiate COVID vs flu”
Let me rephrase:
“Our tests never knew the difference between the flu and COVID-19. All of our data regarding the infection rate of COVID was mixed with that of Influenza, and has always been 100% unreliable”
https://www.cdc.gov/csels/dls/locs/2021/07-21-2021-lab-alert-Changes_CDC_RT-PCR_SARS-CoV-2_Testing_1.html?fbclid=IwAR2_w3RikChcFhrW30CBoW-xM6I0vppwYgho-L2nVFpM5wuuHB38YMIUJ_o
When I read that it seems to indicate the cdc is telling the labs to use an assay that detects both covid and the flu rather than only covid to allow for the detection of both types of viruses from a single sample. An assay is like a “magnet” that attracts specific genetic sequences. By using two “magnets” specific to two different viruses at the same time you could attempt to detect both. Then again, the credibility of the cdc is not stellar at this point lol.

Unfortunately, you rephrased it to mean something completely different than what is actually the case.
The test they're phasing out was always very specific to SARS CoV2. It wouldn't have given a positive result for influenza. The primer sequence added to the test being phased out wouldn't bind to influenza, so you had to run a separate test for influenza. The CDC is asking labs to use one PCR test that contains primers that bind to both SARS CoV2 and Influenza, but can still differentiate which causes a positive test.
Essentially nobody who had a positive test with one of the RT assays they are phasing out had influenza. They had COVID. I'd have to see the details of the new assays and the old ones to see if the PPV and NPV are significantly different.
Remember, we can use a PCR test to amplify the genetic material at a crime scene to identify an individual person with a very high degree of specificity. Telling the difference between Influenza and COVID is easier than telling the difference between you and someone unrelated to you.
Vaccines are like helmets, they only mitigate the severity not the risk

This is signature worthy my man, perfect!
I think people have gotten confused with all of the info on the news, in conversations, and online. Even i felt like superman after shot 2 until my best friend set me straight about what the shot is actually doing inside.
It is not a cure but with some luck a high percentage hospital preventive.

Every time I talk to someone I know in another country who can't even get access to a vaccine they ask me if people here are stupid. People can't even begin to comprehend this portion of our population that are committed to conspiracy theories.

When some very public figures began making wild statements publicly, things changed here. It saddens me so I have to unplug for sanity and that is why....... I don't do cable TV news.

Back during SARS-CoV, the standard was to test for influenza in the symptomatic, then test for SARS when influenza was ruled out. This time around, we were ass backwards.

Why get a vaccine that doesn't stop infection or spread of said infection?
Why get a vaccine that doesn't stop infection or spread of said infection?
To reduce the effects of the infection. How many times do you have to be told the same thing?

The election wasn't "cheated". Those who supported the former guy need to get that through your thick skulls and move on. FFS Trump has turned many of you into crying little bitches in just 4 years.
Oh but "Hunters laptop"...

You'd have better luck washing your walls with an Oreo cookie than discussing this anymore here. Good luck!

He did cheat, it’s called voting from home which should be illegal. It has nothing to do with Trump, I didn’t need Trump to tell me this it’s fuking obvious, one day you will regret a bunch of low life’s who can vote high at home, but I know you’re type you’ll just be there storm trooper for better or worse just cover your own azz.

It's hard to resist a quick response sometimes but I agree with your rather odd analogy. Haven't heard that one before.

I think it was a typo and he meant washing your balls with an Oreo cookie. Rather than cleaning it just makes a crumby mess down there.
I'm 53 and healthy. I just had breakfast at Assembly Hall and Lunch at Kid Rock's. Obviously no mask. Going to see Garth's concert tomorrow. Was also in several shops browsing. Nashville, really TN in general, is a low vaccine/high risk area. Given the crowds, it's pretty likely someone is contageous.
Without a vaccine this trip would have about a 1 in 100 chance of getting me hospitalized with long term side effects, and maybe a 1 in 200 chance of dying. Maybe a little higher.
Fully vaccinated with my last shot 5 months ago, I have less than a 1 in 1000 chance of a serious outcome, and I don't even know how low my mortality risk from this trip is. Pfizer hasn't given me zero risk, but it sure improved the odds...

Pretty simple response to a meme is all.
But which is more effective? A vaccine or healthy lifestyle/diet choices?
In other news, not really in news cos I don't watch but my conspiracy coworker doesn't want to get vaxxed so I told him just come to work but do the covid tests every week but he responded that covid kits are unreliable and damages your brain.
Oh and the antivaxxer guy from the gym today was making jab gestures and I was like "what", and he said did you get the vaccine. I said yes you already asked me that. Then he said jokingly "oh I must be getting Alzheimer's", then I said maybe you should get the vax, maybe it would help. Lol. He laughed.
11 of 12 Washington National with Covid - 11 of who are "vaccinated".
This NBC article is a gem: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/biden-administration-recommend-vaccinated-wear-masks-areas-low-vaccination-rates-n1275012
"Administration officials had been struggling in recent days with how to respond to the rising number of Covid infections and hospitalizations among those who are fully vaccinated..."
"In one cluster of more than 200 cases in Provincetown, Massachusetts, 70 percent of the Covid positive cases since July 1 have been among vaccinated individuals, Town Manager Alex Morse said in an MSNBC interview."

Yeah I don't get the testing tbh unless you have symptoms. I've never gotten it. I was just trying to have him not to lose job opportunities because they are requiring vaccines or tests.
if you want to be scientific, technically you need a control group. You would need a certain number of people not taking the vaccine, and compare it to other groups (Covid + and vaccinated…). Would it not be “more Sciency“ if we allowed a certain percentage of the population to refuse the vaccine? Is that not part of a scientific process, of not just ethics, but in forming more accurate conclusions? Covid is here to stay, and the vaccines prove to be effective, people will start complying more. They will not, however, comply if they are being forced either way.
This is the position of the right so far from what I understand, but yet the left says we are against science?
