Seems like that last line could very well be true. He could also have had wild type and then Omicron. I don't know if there's a way to find out what strain you've had. I have access to redacted data on studies, and a PI could possibly find out the strain a subject had if it was evaluated on a trial, but in the real world, I don't know if the locally available labs are testing for the strains and then informing the providers. Seems like there would be very little reason to sequence the viral genome in most cases since it wouldn't affect treatment.

You could, anyone could, it just takes a discipline most don't have. I am on my typical winter bulk now and really enjoying finally being able to eat. I have decent genes and was athletic in my youth which I believe gives me a leg up on other middle aged men but when I got focused on my career and stopped playing sports after college I ballooned up to 70lbs greater than I am now really quickly and I was about as disgusting as a human could be until I decided to watch what I ate. Abs are super easy, you just don't eat. It's packing on muscle mass without fat that is a real challenge and balancing act.

Ya same here. We are back on for 30 days but some counties aren't enforcing. Unfortunately, the fine if enforced is like $10k per incident. It's enough to force us to play the game some but we are finding creative ways around it to avoid getting closed down.

There's no simple answer, but I'll do my best for the people who, unlike you, may not actually know the answer. Obviously with the caveat that this is over-simplified. It's just slightly less oversimplified than what we usually get from the media.

A lot of people clearly think post infection immunity should be better than post vaccine immunity because people are exposed to more viral antigens. That doesn't seem to be the case. The other proteins aren't nearly as important as the spike protein because they don't have a significant effect on cell entry/infection. Those other proteins also seem to be able to hide from your immune system because they're basically sugar coated and aren't recognized as foreign. The vaccine gives you two exposures several weeks apart which seems to provide immunity levels very comparable to an infection. So you're comparing lots of spike protein antigen that's largely hidden by sugars, circulating for a week or two (in most cases) vs a little antigen for a few days, but with the mRNA vaccines, given twice (or more) and spread out by several weeks. In both cases, circulating Ab levels and cellular components do drop over time, and we've already discussed why the booster shot helps both in the short term, and potentially in the long run too.

It's annoying that the government and media dumbed down the mechanisms a lot, but it's not necessarily "bull$hit". Also, the jury is still out on how much less severe Omicron is given the different patient populations here vs various countries is Africa. Unfortunately, we're going to get some real data on that from our unvaccinated/viral naïve population in the US over the next few weeks.

Seems strange to limit its use if it needs to be taken in early stages of infection. I guess if they only give it to higher risk people maybe it will delay the reduction in its efficacy from mutations a little longer. Not that it matters if it works or not, as long as we are told it works and the government cuts the purchase order.
