The spread here in my part of NY is crazy. My bjj gym has over 30 people out right now w/ c19 confirmed and who knows how many are not confirmed. Somehow, even though I've been in very close contact with many of them, I've avoided it. My sister in law has it now and is pretty sick (think a bad flu). My coach text me this AM asking if I could cover the kids class tomorrow as he hes going to get tested. We all gettin this thing...

It is so bad in NJ that they closed the public health office 2 weeks ago and told them all to work from home.
How you feeling today Jay?
Was really winded lifting this morning which is never a problem for me. No other symptoms but thinking about burning a at home test.
Oh no, hope it's nothing brother. Good luck, keep us posted
Two coworkers got the rona. One of them for the second, maybe third time. Chitty symptoms but 70% of the first tome she got corona and no never apparently.
Going around and spreading like wildfire amongst workers where I’m at.
Oh, they say “vaccine is for pu**ies and more people are dying from the vaccine anyways”. So no vaccine for them.
lol @ dying from the vaccine, I'd sooner take my chance with the vax than covid tbh

Pretty bad at the NY/NJ Ports as well. Lots of workers are out . I couldn’t escape it either. Just finished my isolation yesterday.
Glad I got tested though. Wouldn’t have known I had it if I didn’t get tested because I didn’t have any symptoms .

No doubt we are all going to get it.
Stay safe everyone.

My buddy just called me. Got boosted on 12/21. Tested positive 12/27. Mild cold, gave it to his octogenarian parents. They have stuffy noses and a cough.
Everyone should catch it, we'll all get antibodies and it will be like the chicken pox. one and done.

Sounds like a great plan but folks are getting it twice and even rumors of 3 times..
I don't think we will get rid of it until we get the poorer countries vaccinated. These areas are perfect for creating new variants
Glad to hear you had it easy Quicksand. You were fully vaxxed right?

I think the hypothesis with those getting it 2x or 3x is that they are getting a different variant each time.
Feel a little better today. Nose is less runny and not as stuffy as well today. Throat mucus is still there causing me to clear my throat often. However, haven't really been coughing today.
Took some NyQuil nighttime stuff last night and slept hard all night.

It’s never been a serious threat to most. This will get to most people well before the new Pfizer omicron special is available in March, but it’s nothing more than a cold. Strangely, for the original my daughters symptoms and my own were worse. This one was worse for my wife, she had a cold with cough for four days but was less sever than a typical cold. OG Covid was mild but long lasting fatigue for me, where my daughter had a sore throat and rash and my wife had a headache and fever. My son just doesn’t get it, other than being cranky for a day.

I agree. I have been hearing from credible sources that by March we may see some herd immunity and a serious drop in cases.
If that is true and if that happens, I wonder if boosters will be necessary. Opinion?

The vaccines are not and have never been necessary for most, since it’s never been a significant risk for most, since day one (risk being probability of a severe outcome). I’d guess that vaccines will still be strongly recommended twice per year at a minimum (forever). I also think that some people are starting to realize this is a farce and nothing other than a way to enrich politicians and give government power it was never intended to have. The Supreme Court should be deciding on the OSHA ETS soon, that will also play a part on the future of what we are “encouraged” / required to do. I really wish the hypocrisy could be realized. Sadly people are incredibly gullible.

Now the schools are requiring kids to get the booster shot that made me so sick and I still have side effects over 2 weeks later.

Woot just tested positive. Just about everyone in my universe has it and I've been dealing with a really bad runny nose for a few days so popped open one of the school tests kits and its a strong positive. Feel pretty OK otherwise just a bit run down but I had 13 rolling rounds on Monday (5 min each) and lifted last night so that's never easy.
J&J vaxxed and had the Moderna booster. Guess I'll see if I get worse but I think these cold like symptoms have been going on since the weekend.

I'm honestly surprised NY is still allowing BJJ gyms to be open considering the nature of it.
Do you now have to inform all the people you were rolling with that you tested positive and then quarantine yourself? How does that work for your job?
I know with my job we have to quarantine for 5 days starting from the date you first felt sick, not the day you tested positive. Covid hase been rampant in my department over the last couple weeks.

At this point our part of NY has thrown its hands up. Masks are like 50/50 depending on where you go. BJJ was shut down when the gyms were shut down last year and only opened with training dummies - no person to person rolling. Now it is basically normal life. No one will be shutting down again in upstate NY.
I will let my coach know but contact tracing isn't really a thing now. So many have gotten c19 in my gym that I knew my time was limited. No one that I've rolled with who came down with it contacted me so fuk em :D
I'm a stay at home dad by choice right now so I told the boss (my wife) and she shrugged :D She had the same issue last week and never tested for it because it was just a bad runny nose and a slight sore throat. I'm pretty sure thats the mentality many here have now - just going on with life. If I have to take my kids to get tested or if they come down with my same symptoms I'll have to jump through the C19 NYS protocol hoops which are annoying. Our school district has opted not to do the test to stay stuff for school and my kids aren't vaxxed so they will have the full quarantine time.

Might get a mild fever and cough in the next day or two. Pretty much exactly the way my wife's symptoms were. She was 100% w/in a week. She has certainly had more significant common colds, she is unvaxxed (not that it matters, everyone is going to get this)

School policy changed midway through my kids quarentine to 5 days (CDC update last week to match adults). We were literally lined up with hundreds of cars on Sunday during an ice storm to get the kids required PCR tests so they could go back to school when we got the email from the school nurse. noped the fuk outa there and white-knuckled our way back home on solid sheets of ice. If you think the workplace guidance is insane, the schools are way worse. My kids could have stayed in school if they were a close contact there, but since it was a close contact at home they had to quarantine for 10 days then 5. My wife could have gone back the day after testing positive due to onset of symptom date, but the kids who tested negative on the same day would have to stay home and my wife would have to isolate from them, but she could go to work, at the school. lol It is almost like they are making the protocols as ridiculous as possible.

So if Omicron ends up being the end of the pandemic because of it's high contagiousness and less severe symptoms, are we going to hail the unvaccinated as the heroes of the pandemic for courageously sacrificing themselves to create this strain? I mean, I heard so many times that they would be the ones responsible for creating new and dangerous strains so shouldn't they get credit where credit is due now? ;)

IMO, in all likelihood this strain originated in a vaccinated person since it exploits a niche to evade the "immunity" from vaccination. My guess is that since Pfizer's Omircon special will be out in March when this will probably be winding down or mostly done, will get credit for successfully defeating it. Then we can get boo$ted every five months for eternity to be extra safe.

What?! A leaky vaccine administered over multiple doses allowing for immunity escape? Inconceivable! :p

No clue it was a take home tests our school district has been handing out. They don't use it for kids to re-enter school if they have symptoms just to see if they need to quarantine and go to a testing site. Do they have take home tests that tell you which variant?

I'm sure now I'll have to play this game too...
Ya we are at the 5 day thing now. I've had this bad runny nose for a few days so this could be day 5 for me. Problem is I've been all over town already sharing my new friend. I do mask up though so they are welcome :D

No the home tests are just pass/fail wont differentiate strains.
Yeah my wife had the runny nose for 2-3 days then 100.2 temp (just under "fever") then the cough was last for a couple days. The CDC might be changing their mask guidelines and informing us that we have been doing it wrong for the last two years on masks and we really need to be wearing filtering facepiece respirators (N-95, KN95 etc). The virus has not changed in size, grown wings or little legs to evade a cloth mask or is in any way better than the previous strains at getting through porous surfaces...We have wasted the last two years of curve flattening. Time to start over, just two more years lol.

Pretty sure I had it back in 2020 but never went and tested. Didn't much matter since I was working from home back then and only went sporadic places. I did however stay home until I felt better.
They just changed quarantine from the 10 day to 5 days from your first symptom. Not since tested positive. Most of my department has had it now with the exception of a few of us. One guy came back to work today because his first symptom was Friday and he is "cleared" to come back today. And he's vaxxed. 3 of the vaxxed people I work with have now had it since Christmas break. I have nothing against the vax, I am not vaxxed but I just think it's funny how this particular vaccine does not seem to stop the virus it was intended to protect against.
