As far as immigration, border etc. the last time we had a comprehensive immigration bill was the Reagan administration. This doesn't excuse Biden's administration in the slightest, but I think we're going to need to see the Legislative Branch put on its big boy pants and do its job and pass a bill to see some reform on processing for immigrants, refugees, and border security. Until then the Executive ends up owning the problem year after year and will continue to deliver "subpar" results.

I agree with everything except the last sentence. I do my best to not say republican or democrat in this section. With all of the flaws and controversy that Trump had, he had the border under control. Now, we have an open border and it is way out of control. Biden has the power to change his open border policy over night and without a "Bill."

I don’t see much difference between Biden’s or Trump immigration policy, both are politically motivated and executed and pretty much sh*t in my opinion. Neither conservatives nor progressives have a clue on how to fix the immigration system. Not that I necessarily have the answer. But you’re not going to get a job outside of menial labor as an illegal. And that's probably where enforcement should be, on the employers who keep hiring illegals that cross the border. But both parties turn a blind eye to that as it helps them get cheap low skilled labor.

Other than ending wall construction and reversing the stay in Mexico thing is Biden’s border policy much different? Either way the issues at the border are caused by the fact our immigration system is a fckn mess and can’t handle the number of people that want to come here. But neither side wants to come together to fix that because just like any other wedge issue immigration isn’t that important to "solve" in the big scheme of things and is far more important as an emotional issue to drive voter turn out.

No dispute with your first sentence. Biden does not need the GOP to end his open border policy, as Trump didn't need Dems to close the border. The difference is results.

What specific Biden policy are you talking about? Biden is still deporting a vast majority of the people who are caught apart from unaccompanied minors and he has not instructed his admin to offer a hearing date for any of the people they have deported and has only vaguely offered in the future to review the policy once the COVID situation is handled (and perhaps not even after that).
If people are streaming over the border because they think Biden is going to help them more, they're both misguided and are probably only influenced by the fact that Biden's rhetoric is significantly toned down from Trump's, while not actually wielding a more benevolent policy favoring amnesty.
It's very similar to how George W. Bush had harsh words about the border and illegal immigrants but Obama actually was the harsher of the two Presidents on illegal immigration by far, and deported more people than Reagan, Clinton, or Bush. In fact Obama deported more than Clinton and Bush combined.
Not to mention President Trump’s idea that simply kicking everyone out and dropping them in Mexico to await an immigration hearing was going to make them disappear, rather than actually dealing with the problem, is a big cause of the issue we are dealing with now.

I am a small-town, born-and-raised Alaskan. I am an ICU nurse. I’ve worked in an Anchorage ICU taking care of Covid patients since the beginning. And I am here to say that the politicization of this pandemic must stop.
The anger, the name calling, and the condescension on both sides must stop.
The media circus created by healthcare providers on one side of the political aisle is unacceptable. Is the hospital busy? Yes. Are many people dying? Yes. Is it time to do our jobs and take care of our friends and neighbors? Absolutely.
I have never heard so much condescension and judgment against a group of people as I have against the unvaccinated population.
Does this mean the unvaccinated are getting worse care? Of course not. These are good people taking care of your family members. But the way these same healthcare providers are talking at the desk, in patient rooms, and to one another has to stop.
People have a choice of what they put in their body. That choice was taken from me when it was between losing a job I’ve held for many, many years and getting a vaccine that I decided, with my low risk factors, I didn’t want.
Do I believe that having the vaccine lessens your severity of disease? Yes. If I were high-risk would I get the vaccine? Absolutely. But I believe people have a choice in what they do.
Is anybody talking about how obesity and the comorbidities it causes is a major common denominator in the patients that are doing poorly? Is anybody pushing health and wellness? No, that wouldn’t be politically correct.
I worked with a nurse who said if they had two patients, and one was vaccinated and one was not, they would go in the vaccinated room first. Appalling.
Healthcare is a job that is done without judgment. We don’t choose who we treat first or better. Our care does not depend on whether the patient is a drug addict, an alcoholic, morbidly obese, or a serial killer.
Talk like this, and the creation of a media circus, perpetuates public mistrust in healthcare and further leads to the division of friends, family and community.
Talk like this allows my own father to feel justified in telling me that unvaccinated people should go to the bottom of the hospital priority list.
We fail the community with this division. We fail with wanting to make punitive who is wearing a mask or not. We fail the community and the commonsense test when we make people feel they have to wear a mask when they are outside by themselves, wear rubber gloves to pump gas, and we ignore the mental health impact on our children and our vulnerable.
We fail when we allow people to face disciplinary action at work because they took their mask off to stand behind a plexiglass wall and speak to the Assembly.
I am done living in fear. I am done wearing a mask unless a business requires it. I am done with teachers judging my children by telling them that they have been seen in the grocery store without masks on.
I am also done listening to a figurehead in Washington, DC telling me whether or not I can gather with my family for Christmas.
When does it end? We are Alaskans. We are Americans. Act like it…

Agreed. I agree with a lot of the sentiments she has but her anti-vax stance personally has clearly had an impact forming her opinions. The bottom line is in healthcare it's typically not a choose one or the other scenario. Just like the old who do you save from drowning question. The times in life where a real choice like that comes into play are so few and far between. And healthcare workers should be treating everyone without any questions asked. But, if a choice has to be made one is in denial to act better than making that choice. Major car accident happens, drunk driver and their victim comes in, only one can be treated (for whatever reason). you without question treat the victim given they both have equal survival rates.

Why I like the misc. We've got plenty of stupid, but also no shortage of people pointing it out.
Guess I've always been willing to call people out regardless of the letters after their name. Who cares if some docs don't like it. Got a Hopkins trained surgeon (as he referred to himself) to throw a scalpel across the OR when I was just a med student.
I figure we'll decrease the incidence of COVID despite the stupidity around it, but we'll never decrease the incidence of STUPID despite COVID, unless we point it out. :)
