Aside from not doing anything stupid like increasing weekly mileage by 50% :), the number one injury preventative is to run in shoes the same way that you run barefoot.

I think many runners who neglect weight training can “run” into issues with muscle imbalances from being such a quad dominant exercise, at least on flat ground. Quads overpower hams and start pulling on the knees. I am not a runner really, my sister is big time, coach, marathoner etc. I enjoy running in minimalist shoes (vibrams) when I do decide to run (it’s been a while) other than trying to get my toes to cooperate getting into them. I usually bike, hike, or elliptical for cardio.

I didn't intend to touch a nerve with runners, but really ymmv. Running is much healthier than sitting on a couch eating chips, but with the injuries I have running is not the answer.

A few weeks ago, I read that the worlds fastest marathon runner is so stiff that he can't get close to even touching his toes, because his conditioning is purely for fast forward movement. I've never tried the minimalist footwear: too little material for Winter and too little protection for the kind of forests I run through in the Summer.

The linked article, which I didn't write btw, from Alex Hutchinson briefly summarizes it pretty well and he gives links to his other articles. He's chronicled it quite well over the years. The research is real clear: runner's knees are at least as good as non-runners, maybe better.
I don't doubt that some runners ruin their knees by running, my old running partner says running is what ruined his knees and I believe him, but others ruin their knees without running and when you throw it all together running is not a significant negative factor and may be positive.
btw, didn't touch a nerve with me, I was just putting out information. Running issues are interesting to me, but I don't get upset about such things.

Weird. I consumed nearly every word from Runners World for years and one of their big things they repeat every four sentences is don't increase too fast. I mean, it's one of their main preaching points.
They endorse the 10% rule, which says to increase by no more than 10% per week. What they don't point out is if you start at 10 miles per week and increase by 10% per week, in less than a year you'll be running over 1000 miles per week.
Run as much as you want. You can't outrun the coof.

Smashing the heel into the ground in front of the body is the knee destroyer. When you run barefoot or as if you were running barefoot, you land on the forefoot directly underneath the body. It's the game changer.

It is amazing how much running shoes vs minimalist shoe or barefoot changes gait. I sound like a fuking horse galloping on a treadmill if wearing running shoes, but even doing HIIT at 10-12mph with minimalist shoes is far less impact and noise.

You cannot really run smashing your heel into the ground. The whole "oh noes, heel striking!" thing is a myth. 90% of recreational runners and many elite runners including the women's world record holder in the marathon Bridget Kosgei and Boston Marathon winner Meb K are heel strikers. There's some evidence that heel striking is more efficient at slower than 7 minutes per mile. There's not a bit of evidence that heel striking is worse for you or that changing your running style will do you any good.
If it's broke, fix it. If you heel strike and have chronic injuries, try something else. But if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I have minimalist shoes, and motion control shoes, and everything in between. Doesn't make much difference to me. Some people are very sensitive to shoe type and it takes lots of trial and error to find what's good for them. These days I'm a Hoka fan, preferring the in-between Hokas.

I haven't done any reading about running in over 10 years, so I'm out of the loop, here. However, there is conclusive evidence that heel striking increases the load on the knee. I edited out the part about exceptions from my previous response, like strong musculature surrounding the knee.
I just started looking through my RW mags and the newest one I have is from 2007. Meb Keflezighi is a mid to forefoot striker, btw, not a heel striker.

The trick is to be able to run in shoes as if you had no shoes on. Getting into Pose Running, especially their hip exercises, is what did it for me. The only complaint about it that I've ever heard is that you don't burn as much fat, because it takes a lot less energy to run that way.
I ask employer if they or other employees will ask if someone is vaccinated. They said no one will ask such a question.
Then employer says if there's a group of 5 or more you should wear a mask if not vaccinated. Should I ask if I should just wear a star as well?

The knee issues are techquie problems, although I can’t speak for that if one has already had surgery.
Same deal with squats and knees.
Right now my back has hindered my squatting ability and I know exactly why, I don’t need surgery, I need a more tecovery structure between the squats and Dead’s.

Sorry, let me clarify, i mean the states have a systematic approach by age range, and health conditions here.
What i am finding out from folks that i talk with, is that all kinds of folks, under 60(current phase) are getting it done and not waiting until their group is eligible.
the first group was 75+ 1a/1b/1c
tuesday is 60+ 2a/2b/2c
and so on

PS I once trained with a couple, they were top of thier game in women bbing and her boyfriend was a power lifter but you could see his abs, during the training which was am, they brought Krispy cremes and mc Donald’s breakfast, we ate grilled burgers after training and they finished off the doughnuts, they laughed at me for saying no to the doughnuts. The dude curled almost 400 up the power stairs with a underhand grip. Steroids do amazing things.

That was the joke. We don't have any proof as we've only had it few weeks.
Also, I don't understand why the ones who are scared of the long term effects of the vaccine say the covid "is just a flu, bro."
How are they so sure that even asymptomatic covid exposure doesn't cause long term effects? Yet vaccines do? What is the rationale here.
We don't have anyone who has survived the virus nor the vaccine for decades or even years to have any evidence. So why is vaccine somehow worse option than to wait for covid? I mean how would you not ever get covid, if you never get vaccine? Unless you just never go anywhere or see anyone.
