Agree! One of my first CL pickups was 500lbs of those gray plates, not a bad looking deep dish but they are your typical CAP/FG quality and should fall in the $0.50 or under category.

50lb Powerblocks. He wants $175, I thought it was a good deal so I offered $150 and he seems fine with that. However after searching craigslist threads here and seeing other offers I think this is a bad deal. I don't know if I want PBs or IMs but I do know everyone recommends PB U-90s if your getting PBs and this listing isn't them. What should I offer? What model is this, I want them to go from 5-50lbs instead of 10-50lbs. He said "The plastic piece on the selector is cracked, but that doesn’t affect the functionality of the weights".

Yeah, I knew that would be a problem and I would feel like a dick offering less. The ad has been up for 20 days for $175. He did tell me it was cracked and won't do all exercises like traditional dumbbells after I offered him $150 though. I already told him that I don't need them that bad because I have a gym membership. So I was going to be honest and say I researched powerblock prices and they go for less than $150. I will also say that I'm not as interested anymore because I can't make up my mind between buying ironmasters and powerblocks. And that many people recommend buying U-90s if buying powerblocks. But if its a good price I rather buy them now then wait for U-90s or ironmasters to go on craigslist and you are close in my county. I just asked him if I can purchase a new selector pin for his model. That I want to expand weight on them eventually. If he tells me they aren't expandable and I can't buy a new pin thats more reasons he could lower the price more.
TL:dr I have reasons that could get the price lower

You need to do your homework before you make offers. Although, there are reasons you may want to refuse or renegotiate.
Check out [url]https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=159357941[/url] for info on all types of PowerBlocks. You may have to use Google Image search to compare the offered PBs to what is in the thread since most of the pictures no longer appear in the thread.
As for reasonable prices, always check out ebay and use a search tool like SearchTempest to see what comparable items are selling for. Then adjust for your area and how badly you want them.

But, I made a trip through upper Ohio this past summer and stopped at one of their retail stores. They were running a special on Craig's List and I bought several kettlebells for about $1 per pound. The Gronk KBs are nice. Thick handles. Textured surface that does not give me blisters (I used them recently for a 10,000 swings in a month challenge).[/QUOTE]
i don't blame him for trying to cash in, but an attempt to put out semi-respectable products would be nice. buying a bunch of bargain bin stuff and branding it with "Gronk" is pretty weak.

I posted a picture of the PBs with tinypic in my first post. But my tinypic links keep being taken down. I have seen that thread in my research. The PBs look like some old classic model. I used SearchTempest to see items in my area within 50 miles and its showing items on ebay a lot farther than that.

Upload your images to BB.com and then insert the link in img tags. Works every time.
Don't think small. 50 miles? That is nothing. I've driven 400 miles round trip to pick up things I've wanted. I typically drive 50 to 200 miles for my pickups.
If you are looking for pricing info, search nationwide. You are trying to determine the market value of the item, not make a buy. There are likely many more places with a market similar to where you are. There are not many places where new PB deals are posted daily.
Also, the PB site lists the price for many replacement parts. If you are going to discount the sale based on replacement cost of parts, the info is out there.

that handle appears to be cracked on the upper right(????). those are the old pro rexan PB's, and the issue with them is finding any add on kit is difficult. You may find someone selling an add on kit ON CL or ebay, but that is rare. I actually think the old pro sets had less rattling/sloppiness than the later elite and pro sets, but if there is a crack in the handle I just couldnt see buying them at all.

[QUOTE=pbk3jg0;1534881511]Wouldn't a cracked handle like this be dangerous for powerblocks?[/QUOTE]
Yes. I wouldn't consider one with a cracked handle no matter the price. Cracked selector pins can be replaced (~$20) but I don't know if they would have this style still available to replace.
Saving a few bucks doesn't offset the medical costs when the plates drop on your head/face

I'll ask him, I can't see a crack on the handle. If there is I'm not buying it. I emailed PB support the selector pins for this model cost $15, don't think that includes shipping charges. I do see yellow discoloration on the top right side on the first dumbbell on the white part. I wonder if he took the photo from the ground for a reason.

I'm starting to think these would only be worth $75-100 with only a cracked selector pin. I think I should keep looking, I have a feeling he won't go that low. I'm not sure when PB's came out but I don't think they are real old. I seen a bunch of forum posters buying PB's in 2009-2011 for $100 and some bought even less. A couple guys got the stand, benches, etc bundled that would make the PB come out to like $50. So if PBs came out around 2008 it sounds like these posters were getting them barely used for cheaper than I can get a real old set.

powerblocks have been around WAY longer than that. I bought a pair back in 1996. Those Pro Rexans were the first models that went up to around 90 lbs, so I think they could easily be 15+ yrs old.

Damn that old, I'm surprised I haven't seen PBs in the past. I didn't care about fitness until like 6 yrs ago though so maybe I seen them and didn't remember. An 15+ yr old dumbbell is not worth $175 or $150. I'm going to continue looking.
-
50lb Pro-Rexan with no ability to get an add-on kit, cracked handle, beat up selector pin? I have sold 45lb/50lb Classic and Elite sets for $150-$175 in excellent condition. I wouldn't pay much for those, JB Weld would likely fix the handle issue easily but I'm not anywhere near even $100 for those PB's. FWIW, coming from a Powerblock fiend....

The [url=https://web.archive.org/web/20000520025457/http://www.powerblock.com]Wayback Machine[/url] shows the 85 lb Pro Rexan PBs were available in 2000 for $548. The Wayback Machine entries for the PB site earlier than 2000 are sketchy and I could not confirm when they were first introduced. I looked it up when I bought my Pro Rexan 85s.
But the handle in the picture is slightly different than the handle on my Pro Rexans. If the pictured PBs are Pro Rexans, they are the 5 to 45 lbs set. There are 4 weight plates. Each handle has a pair of 2.5 lb adder weights. See [url]https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=159354151[/url]
The picture shows a smudge in the circle. At first glance it looked like that side of the handle was broke. But the edges of the plastic plate look correct. The near corner matches the far corner by protruding in and there is an outer lip on both sides of the handle. I think the smudge is creating an optical illusion of a massive crack in the handle's end plate.

I have a pair of Pro Aluminum 90 lb PBs that I got from the original buyer, who got them in 1995. I bought replacement pins from PB and they are as good as new. I use them every week for my DB workout.
I also have a pair of Pro Lexan 85 lb PBs that are probably only 10 to 15 years old. They are as good as new and they are used frequently.
Good equipment, well maintained, lasts a long time. I have some York Buns and Globes dumbbells that are probably as old as me, if not older. Some of them seem to be in better shape than I am. :D

Sounds like you have no problem with old products, what would you offer for the ones in the picture? Nah, you're in better shape than me, I have too many health issues for a 25yr old. Its almost like I am a 65yr old in a 25yr olds body. Eating unhealthy and not working out on a consistent basis doesn't help me.

For me, equipment is about functionality, not esthetics.
You already offered him $150 for a pair of 50 lb dumbbells. If those are Pro Rexans, they only weigh 45 lbs. So they are worth less than he thought. If the only thing that is broken is the selector pin, you could reasonably subtract the replacement part cost.
So what is the worth of a pair of 45 lb PowerBlocks that need replacement pins? Only you can decide that. Do you want them now enough to pay the price or are you willing to wait until a better deal comes along?
To put it in perspective, there is a pair of 45 lb Hoist/IronMaster dumbbells [I]with stand[/I] for sale near me. Those dumbbells are comparable to PBs. They want $75. If I had a need, I might consider buying them. Although, I would not pay more than that for a pair.

i had those once. my recollection was 3 x 10 lb plates to a side on the 14 inch version, which it appears those are. seemed like a 4th left very little thread. depend on the thickness of those plates. looks like around 150 lbs weight plates with the handles. at a fair $0.50 per pound that $75 just for the weight. if i wanted some cheap adjustables id say its a fair price. those hampton handles are far and away the best spinlock handles ive ever used...the screwlocks are easy to turn and lock up better than most spinlocks.

I think I'm going to go see them and see how much weight i can fit, if they cant fit 4 plates a side I'll offer low because i already have adjustables with enough pancakes to get to 65 lbs but they can fit 1 more plate each side and i could get to 85, so im in no need for them but they do look like a really good quality set

There is not a pic of the 45, but it appears to be a newer plater, 90s or newer, since the lettering matches the smaller plates of that era. Check the google doc
