Looking for a little advice on what to sell my hack machine for. It's a Bodysolid and I believe I paid around $900 several years ago.
What would be a fair price I should list this at?
Thx for any help.
Should be able to get $500 for it. It is a leg press/hack squat. Advertise as a leg press. I paid $275 for one for my daughters.
I've had a bad run with CL lately. Other than the Olympic free weights, which sold in days, nothing is really selling. I've been having better luck with ******** Market for the past few months. It's kind of a mess and annoying, but it's been a lot more effective than CL.

SUPER annoying. There shouldn't be a giant button "Ask About Availability". It's freakin' listed...it's available. There seems to be way more action on FB marketplace, but so many messages with "is this available?" I'll say yes and they'll never write back.

and yet I messaged a guy over the weekend about something that had sold a few weeks ago

CL is garbage lately. Nothing but scammers on both ends just trying to harvest phone numbers. If your neighborhood has a nextdoor page, you might have good luck there.

The "I'm interested" button is worse. I get a lot of those "I am interested in this item" messages. I need a response button that sends "Good for you bud, what the hell do you want to do about it?"

I cannot stand ******** Market, although I cannot stop looking.
Posts are not sorted by date. People do not remove ads when they sell items. And the FB search feature is flakey. But I did find a pair of Powerblocks at a good price.

Got a hit on the IM bench, but no response since, lol. Did find Revolvers, unrestored/original finish for $1/lb, just a pair of 45s. Gonna pick them up Saturday...that'll make 6x45, 4x25, 4x10, 2x2.5 and 2x1.25lb. Still on the hunt for a pair of 35s though.

shame you're not looking for OMEZS...i've got two pairs of 35s that I can't seem to move...

Those are the ones with slots, correct? I guess people hate 35s ,lol. But I just want a complete set, eventually finding OM 5lbers for less than like $50.
I wouldn't mind having those with slots cuz they look cool too lol. And seem even harder to find than Revolvers.
PM with any $$$ info, I would consider them.

SSB is not a common item to show up around these parts. You are probably better off just buying that when a good sale appears. That being said, I did get a eliteFTS SSB brand new for 230 on RI craigslist :)

I have this rack...my two complaints are the j hooks...they're metal...they dont have that nice thick plastic that protects your bar. Not a huge issue tbh...
The bigger issue is the rack is too wide. Theres only around 2" on each side of the bar when you go to re rack. Benching isnt too difficult but doing squats and trying to rack can sometimes be a pain. Also...when you squat and step back...unless you step directly back and keep the bar centered...the freakin weight plates hit the sides of the rack...again...its too damn wide.
I will say its built like a tank though. The up/down hole spacing doesnt bother me. At $500...not so sure...may as well just get a titan rack.

You need to work on your Craig's List skills. I live in Tennessee and every summer I pass through Columbus and Cleveland on my way to Western NY. I start checking CL about 2 weeks before I leave on my trip. I find that area fertile with good deals and lots of equipment for sale.
Last summer I picked up a York bar in Columbus and York dumbbells and some kettlebells south of Cleveland. I wasn't looking for plates, but I remember seeing York for sale.

thanks for the advice tally and i guess that i didn't specify but i meant to ask if there were other sites i can look at besides craigslist that guys specifically sell this kind of stuff...

For about $30 plus some 3M outdoor mounting tape I had lying around I lined all 6 of my j-hooks and the safeties.

Should have done it years ago. Protection aside, it's just nicer to use now.

Try ******** Marketplace and apps like Offerup or Letgo. Also check other categories in your Craigslist search like Health & Beauty or whatever. Good luck.

I've been wanting to pick up a couple matching commercial grade weight trees for a while now.
No such luck.......... yet.
Two Cybex weight trees are on my craigslist wishlist. Someday.

First post here...
I’m in the process of acquiring all the pieces for my first home gym build in my basement. This forum has been amazing with the abundance of information that helped me make decisions on what to get. I’ve picked up a bench, barbell, 230 lbs of York rubber bumpers and a power rack should be here in the next day or two. My thoughts are that I’ll use the bumpers for DL and iron for in the rack.
I need help on making a decision on some iron plates. I came across some Troy VTX Olympic grip plates on Craigslist in like new condition. It’s 455lbs for less than $1/lb.
Also, York is about an hour and a half from me and I could drive there and pick up a 300lb weight set(including the barbell)or two for $199 each.
I’d like to stay under $400 for a set. I’m just beginning with weight training but want to get stuff that will last me a long while. My question is should I go with the plates on CL? Are they good quality for the price? Go the York route? Or should I be looking at something else?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I personally have VTX and like them a lot. However, if I were in your shoes, for near the same money pick up 2 of the York sets for 400 and have plenty of weight along with 2 barbells and all matching brand plates and bumpers.

Any idea if the barbells that come with the set will be good enough quality or should I sell them and put it towards a better bar? It’s the economy York bar.

I do have a Rogue Chan bar that I picked up off CL already. That's why I was throwing around the notion of selling the two that come with the sets and keep an eye out for another quality bar on CL.

I have the VTX grip plates and while I really like the design, I don't think the quality is as good as it used to be. Lot of rough edges and the paint is sloppy. A 300 pound set of those plates (including bar) sells for $300 pretty much all the time at my local big box sports store:
https://www.scheels.com/p/vtx-olympic-300-pound-weight-set/43300008367.html
Individual plates sell for about $1.60/pound, so that's not a terrible deal used, but it's not great either.
I have a Chan, it's a great all-around bar. If you're used to that I don't think you'll want to be using the cheap bars, so you might as well sell them.
-

I think that's a great plan, though I would probably keep one of the bars for pressing inside the rack or for landmine work (if you do landmine work). The VTX plates are nice and at a good price, but I would also vote for going with the York plates just to have everything match. If you end up selling the bars that come with the sets for 50 each, you'll end up with 510lbs of plates for $300. That's more money that can go to your next piece of equipment.
-
I emailed York and asked if it would be possible to exchange the two economy bars and put it towards the purchase of a better bar. They told me to talk to the retail sales manager and see what they can do. So I’ll give that a shot. If that is possible, would the York Power Bar be a good option?

I don't understand why their pricing is so much higher for everything other than the 300 pound set. But considering that it is, that is not a bad deal if you like that plate mix. Which York plates are you looking at? I'm assuming they will be lower quality standard plates rather than grip, and along with that possibly less accurate. If that's the case, personally I'd go with the VTX. But the York sets will get you more weight for less money once you resell the bars. Really depends on what your priorities are.

Yes, it would be the standard York plates.

I think if you're driving to York, you should be able to buy plates a la carte. There also might be bar-less sets. This is the case at XTC Fitness which is 10 mins down the road from York's Oakville foundry, I can't imagine York's PA HQ wouldn't be the similar.

I missed the beginning but if you are close enough to drive to York HQ to pick up plates - why not just used ones? There are plenty of them out there.

The VTX GO-V plates at Fitness Factory and the ones I linked to are the same. You're just seeing the backside on the far end of the barbell.
There are also VTX non-grip plates that I've seen in store that run cheaper, rubber and urethane coated versions, and bumper plates.
