36" flip down safeties came today

How long is that pin in the last pic? Does it go through both sides of the upright or just one? I've never had flip down safeties..... is there supposed to be that big of a gap?

some are designed with the gap, some aren't - personally it drives me insane

The pin on the gap side goes about half inch into the upright, not all the way through. The pins on the 2 sides are opposing, so the gap is needed to get the safety in place. I think the ones that have no gap are where both pins are in the same direction. Someone more knowledgeable than me can confirm. I have not owned any other safety spotters.
not sure about the length but you slide the end with the long pin all the way flush with the other upright then swing in the end with the stubby pin, line up and pull it back flush on that end, flip it down, and then run the hitch pin in. Probably in the end not a ton more secure than pin and pipe and probably not a ton faster but it sounds cooler to say flip down safeties.

This. I don't think it makes any difference in terms of function or safety. The Northern Lights flip downs don't have a gap, and the pins don't go all the way through on either side. But I've seen Mech6's flip down safeties, and they do have a gap (albeit smaller than the gap pictured).
Maybe the gap is necessary to insert the safeties between the uprights before flipping them down?
Edit - Seems a few people beat me to it lol. I figured it was something like that. The NL flip downs attach to the uprights in a different way:

it appears to me that its only usable inside the westside hole spacing as the hitch pin looks to be set up for that spacing rather than the 50 mm spacing outside that area. So your rack pulls may be from pretty high depending on how tall you are. I seem to recall someone in one of the defect threads getting an upright with a west side hole spacing that started lower on the upright and this could be part of a coming design change rather than an oversight on design.

The issue with this style of flip down is that you have to line up both pins with the holes simultaneously. It takes a little longer to adjust the safeties that way, although not as long as pin/pipes.

The hitch pin is unnecessary. Added fancy bonus but unnecessary

100% agree, though the one longer pin you can insert into one upright and then line the shorter pin up. It was a little frustrating until I borrowed a label maker from work. Numbered holes make adjustments a hell of a lot easier.

Now this is cool. First of its kind? I haven't seen anything like this before. I might buy it and ad some holes in my T2 to make it fit.
me too.
+1 - I wanted to get those flip-down safeties as soon as they were launched but I was not happy with that design. The gap would annoy me no end, and those gussets at the corners are not cool either - just imagine dropping a loaded bar and it hits those gussets... ouch!!
I was hoping for the design where both pins point in the same direction, so that the safety can flip down with little or no gap (like pic below, and no gussets either).

A Strap Safety system seems to be the best option now, hope Titan makes one soon. Meanwhile, with the low height flat bench in the rack and I now have the pin-pipe safeties at a position that works for both bench and squat. So I don't move them at all and I use the spotter arms as safety for everything else that need it. I think I am good with the current setup... at least till Titan comes out with a Strap Safety System :D

Think they are mindlessly copying Rogue products without doing any market research or getting customer feedback. I'm in the same boat, have been waiting for flip down safeties for the longest time but now would rather wait for the safety straps. But I have a feeling that they'll find a way to overcomplicate those too.

hopefully they go with a sorinex style slimline bracket

I'm pretty sure Rogue has both designs of the flip downs, just on different lines of racks.

my flip downs came today and my initial impressions are they look like crap. typical titan crappy powdercoating the new style not the smooth paint like stuff thats on my rack. Welds are ok they would probably pass first year shop classes. there as always is weld spatter everywhere. The uhmw is wavy and raised away from the metal arm in a couple places on the one arm. Other than that they fit my rack well and because of the westside hole spacing they lined up about 1/4 inch lower than my safety spotter arms did for bench and landed exactly where my pin and pipe safety's went through for squats. I checked those angle brackets and all the marks for me failing a bench or squat rep were inside those so that should be ok. The metal used to wrap around the back of the posts to lock it in is thicker than that on the safety spotter arms and is lined with uhmw on the sides of it that come into contact with the front and back edges of your uprights but not on the side that flips down against the post. the holes along the length of the flipdown are the same roughly 5/8 that the rack itself has not the smaller 3/8 holes that the safety spotter arms had so it should work well for band pegs. I just ran a zip tie in the next hole up and wrapped it around the inside of the rack so that when I adjust them I'll visually see where they go every time. I should get around to labeling holes but I just don't want to make a mess out of it so I haven't done it yet.

I feel like Titan is becoming the next NYBB. You can expect everything to work as described, but they will gladly ship you items with chipped up paint and surface rust LOL. I guess at least with Titan they are cheap, I have no idea how New York BB stays in business with their prices and shipping.
-
Got my Titan Safety Squat bar about 3 weeks ago.
One end had punched out of the box during shipment, and a little bit of the very-thin chrome plating had abraded off where it rubbed on my concrete steps, where left by the FEDEX guy.
No big deal...minor cosmetics, but an irritant.
The bar seems plenty good for my purposes. Nice dense padding. Handles 16" apart c-c, seems a bit wide for my shoulders, but works just fine. Full diameter weight sleeves, reasonably smooth bearings
For the price, totally satisfied.
Handles and camber are at the same angle, but I like it that way. In fact, I keep wanting to push the handles up a little so the weight is even further towards the front. That is the opposite direction of SS Bars with a built-in angle (weights hang down compared to handles).
Looks like about 4" to 4-1/8" of offset in the camber.
I am no expert, I just like it this way.
I immediately notice that with the weights more forward, my back is more upright and I can hit depth better, even with flat shoes. With a regular Hi- or Lo-bar squat I can't hit depth without lifting my heels or using lifting shoes.

Not to mention NYBB's website that was last updated in 1999. The full deadlift jack is probably the first Titan product I've received that didn't have visible surface rust and chipped paint.

They are an odd company to be sure. In dealing with them recently, they sent out some pieces as a credit for another issue. The pieces arrived previously used and showed all the major signs of it. They are trying to correct but it has been nearly two months since.

The spotter arms I saw were shocking as well...the uhmw only contacted metal where there was a screw or rivet, welds were totally sloppy, and there were spots where there wasn't any paint. After seeing them, hats when I decided Tian is good for only certain items.
-
I recently bought the full deadlift jack. All of the mixed reviews on Titan kind of made me want to test out something that wasn't a significant purchase (in function or price).
I paid $67.50 (no tax, no shipping) and I am fairly happy with it. Yes, the welds look like absolute ****. The powder coat actually doesn't look bad on mine though. Go figure. There is obviously a market for them. I won't be trading down to Titan anytime soon, but I can appreciate a cheaper option for some things.
You could peg me a Rogue fan, but even I have my limits on some things. They are the premium brand, and they make quality stuff. However, some items are frankly gimmicky and not worth it. You can't blame them for trying though.
I hope Titan keeps Rogue a little more honest with some of their prices. Not holding my breath though...

Gonna be ordering some of these. Been wanting some for a while but couldn't get myself to spend the money on the at NYBB. These are so much cheaper I have no issues pulling the trigger.
