Oh man...not what I wanted to read haha..thank you for replying, I’ve got a lot of work to do.
A BF assessment and advice on where to go next would be appreciated.
Quick history:
Started out in Feb-16 at approx 235lbs; undertook a fairly aggressive calorie deficit to Jan-17 and found myself at 160lbs but noticably lacking in any muscle tone yet maintaining a degree of fat. It was a bit of a 'junkie' look at that point.
I've tried a steady re-comp since then and I'm now 165lbs but with visibly much more muscle and slightly less fat than 10 months ago. Question is, should I cary on that steady path or go for a more aggressive cut?
So, questions:
- What body fat am I? I have an idea myself but would appreciate the impartial thoughts of others?
- Is it unusual to have an 'unbalanced' BF? As the photos show, I have very little fat on my arms but still a lot around my torsoe.
- Do I carry on a steady re-composition , aggressive cut or someting else/
Hi,
What does my body fat % look like? I'm 6'0 and currently 177. I've been cutting for a few months and incorporating strength training into my workouts.
Should I continue strength training and cardio? Or more of one and less of the other?
Thanks!
23, 6', 195lbs
The picture is about a month old. I've gain about 5 lbs since then. I do jiu jitsu 4 times a week, lift twice a week. I just started lifting abut a month ago. I ideally want to walk around at 180 but am unsure if I should keep losing fat or bulk up and add some muscle.

Around 15% I’d keep recomping for now.

About 16%. Strength training is more relevant in terms of body composition, but it’s hard to give advice without actually knowing what it is you are doing.

About 17%. I’d cut.
Hi,
Can someone please tell me what BF % i am?
I am 6ft4" tall, 216lbs. I've attached a photo, this is not the best photo, but it is me completely relaxed.
I looked better / more defined when tensed though.
I have minimal fat on my legs, back or ass.
And i only have a thin ish layer of fat on my arms and chest. It seems mostly seems to be on my belly.
I can typically see Faint abs even when relaxed and these get more visible when tensed.
To make things more complex, i do suffer from a distended abdomen and enlarged organs / intestines (confirmed by doctor / MRI scan) which makes by belly stick out further than normal and make me appear fatter than i actually am.
I am solid and quite tight in arms, chest, legs and back when tensed.
I THINK it might be 22% BF, but that could be way out.
Thanks

I would say 23-25% from that picture. If you have one from the front, that would be helpful.
Great, thank you. Do you think I should continue cutting while lifting? Cut to 12%? Then bulk?

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. That sounds about right. I will try and take another photo,
Cheers
A little back story. I started getting serious about my health and fitness at the end of July. I am 5’6” and weighed in at 180.1. I had a BIA reading of 40% body fat. (I am learning there are many variables to BIA and the inaccuracy of them.)
I have continued to have a BIA scan each month to try and help track my progress. In October my body fat was reading 35.4%.
I once again had a scan done today and it went up to 35.8%. I know this can’t be accurate (at least I am really hoping not.)
I have been putting in hard work at the gym and following a clean, protein rich diet. My current weight is 158, for a total of 22 pounds down.
I am currently looking into other methods in my area to hopefully get a more accurate reflection, but want to post here to see if I am just crazy in thinking it should be less? 😖

I'd say around 27%.
I am 5'10.5
Pic on the left was me last year. I weighed 165 pounds and I guess I was around 24% BF? Any guesses would be appreciated because I never measured it when I first started.
Pic on the left was a few days ago. I weigh 160 pounds. I get a different reading every time I take my BF % so idk what it is really.
What do you guys think?
Thanks!
Hi all, thank you so much for doing this. I have been on a cut for ~1.5 months and am wondering if I should keep going or start bulking. My goal is to get stronger (Bench / Squat / Deadlift 2.5 / 2.5 / 3 plates, currently 1RM at 220 / 215 / 275 lbs) and achieve an athletic physique. Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Hi again everyone! I continued my cut from 10/29 and am now ~135lbs and am still on 5/3/1 triumvirate. However I don't think there's anything noticeable with how I look and am hoping to get your advice regarding what my body fat % is and what you think my next step should be.
I don't know if it's a matter of not having enough muscles to show even as I get light / a loss of muscles / combination of both and whether I should continue cutting or start a lean bulk. If I continue cutting, should I reduce my cal intake? It is currently at ~1,700. If I go on a lean bulk, I am thinking ~2lb gain per month would be good, at ~300 cal surplus (i.e. ~2,500 cal).
Thank you very much!

Height: 179cm

Thank you! Do you think my plan to gain ~2lbs/month is reasonable? When should I stop?

That sounds good. I’d aim for 6 months. Pay attention to the mirror.

Sorry when you say pay attention to the mirror, what should I be looking out for? Should I am to stop when I am at ~16-17% (assuming that means I lose any abs outline?)
Thank you again, I really appreciate it.
I am 1m65 cm , with about 62 kg. Can you help me calculate the fat %?

measure your waist right now. go to fitwatch.com and use the body fat calculator there. once your waist gets up to the point it's saying you're like 14% then stop and cut back down to what it says you are now. rinse and repeat.
