Hi everyone, I'm new to the gym and have spent the last month or so losing some weight and learning my way around the exercises before I officially start my long term bulk. I started out skinny fat at ~155 lb/5'6" and have since dropped to 133 as of this week. My goal is to get <13% BF before I start, but I'm unsure where I stand at the moment. I feel like I have a kind of weird feminine fat distribution with a large bulk of my fat going to my thighs and not my upper body which might give a deceptive view of my BF. Here are a few pictures:

Like most new lifters you are in need of building muscle. For the fat part, well you don't seem to have that much of it from what I can see... but due to the ratio between fat & muscle you end up around 18%BF or so. Don't go below 15%BF before you add muscle to your frame.

I've seen that advice on here often, but my main worry is that I'll have to cut off my bulk short as I'll reach a high BF too soon, even on a lean bulk (I plan on gaining around a pound per week for half a year). If I continue with my plan I'd cut ~10 more pounds of fat which could give me more wiggle room. Am I over worrying here?

Could anyone give me a bodyfat percentage, also advice on lean bulking or cutting further?
I have lost around 40lbs in the last 3 years - I am now getting to a point of not knowing if I should continue to work out and cut to reduce body fat - or if I am looking 'skinny fat' and need to lean bulk
Would appreciate any advice
Thanks

You shouldn't gain too fast, 1 pound/week is excessive. Aim for ~0.5 pounds/week on average for your lean bulk.
The 10 pounds of weight loss should put you in the 15%BF bracket so that's fine. For 12% it would likely mean another 10 pounds, which would make you severly underweight.

About 20%BF. IMO you should lift to progress slightly below maintenance calories and eat higher protein. This translates to slower fat loss with some muscle gains. Put in the hard work in the gym!

My view. Yes you are, you need to build more muscle cutting anymore will offer no real benefit other then being 10lbs lighter you will look near enough the same.
If you follow Tucane advice and gain weight slowly then most will be muscle not fat. I would personally forget getting leaner and progress on a proven weight training program and gain some mass.

About 12%BF.
Note that such formulas are estimates, even if you put in your BF% and activity level. I personally get estimates of 500 kcal below IRL TDEE when I've put all my data into any calculator so far.
Trial and error is your best friend:-)

Around 22%BF.
You should consider lifting at maintenance or just slightly below for a period of time to build up strength and muscle. This way you'll lose small amounts of fat while having enough energy to push through in the gym.

Body Fat Prediction
Hi Guys
I am 5ft 7 inches, 183lbs, and have been going to the gym lifting weights for 9 months. I was wondering based on the 3 attached photographs if you could give me an estimate BF%.
My aim is to cut down to 12% before puttting in a bulk period. Look forward to your response.

Nope. 7 lbs is about what I would expect from a 2% drop in BF... waterweight is a factor too. Lifting and eating protein is enough to prevent muscle loss. If you suffer from lack of grip strength, real fatique or lack of sleep, then you need to adjust your ways.

Hi Tucane, thanks for that. Any thoughts on daily Kcal i should use based on 183lbs, 5ft 7in and 20%BF. I lift 4 days a week, a 20 min HIIT bar complex once a week and 45 mins bike cardio once a week, with one day of complete rest. Which happens to be today (Hooorraaaa!!!!). Ohhh forgot to mention i want to cut to 12%BF before bulking.
cheers

Hello guys,
Please estimate my bf percentage: imgur com/a/MgwcmEY (cant post a link yet)
Age: 26
Height: 189 cm
Weight: 111kg
Cant loss any more weight, even though im eating below the calorie deficit. Should i go for bulking? Ive been in cutting period for long time, did some great results (the best was from 120kg to 87 with terrible diet, which turned out bad for my body, 5 y ago). Now im struggling for the past couple years to get below 100kg and 12-14% bf, im swinging in the range of 118-108kg depends on bulking/cut period.
Any tips/suggestions or help would be appreaciated.

Try 2200 kcal with 200g protein and see where it takes you... there is some trial and error involved in getting it right.
