Im 5/9 149 lbs 21 years old. I was just wondering what my body fat percentage would be at right now. If i pull down on my lower belly fat i can see my abs. Thats ultimately my goal is to get to low enough body fat where i can see them without flexing. Im trying to cut down to 140, do you think i will be able to see abs then. After that i want to go on a lean bulk over the summer, but i wanted to start at a low body fat %.

Around 14%BF.
Depending on your core development and your pattern for fat loss you might or might not. I'd guess you'd be around 12% at that weight.

Yep, as an aside you can't just stare at your "bellyfat" and know your estimated body fat.
My wife for example has 6 pack abs at points in BF way higher than most women have them. Those are her fat storage patterns, and she has always had deep, thick abdominal ridges due to genetic structure. It's one of the problems with a lot of the body fat % pictures on the internet, they tend to be waistline focused.
And yet when you follow prep logs lots, people often have quite a bit of hip or leg fat to lose to get lean, long after their abs begin to show. And it's not just women, men have varying android and gynoid fat distributions.
Been a couple weeks. Curious to see where I'm at:
5'5", 172 lbs, 32.75" waist, not flexing in the pictures, but there is good overhead lighting.

From what I can see, 13% and maybe a little less.

Nice. I also noticed that I tend to lose my abs completely by around dinner time. What body fat percent do I have to be to have them all-day long?

The general figure quoted is 10% it does depend a little on your fat distribution but I think 5 to 8 more pounds ought to do it.
I'd say 13-14%
hello i was in this thread not long ago, I have updated my pics in bodyspace the ones under progress that ask for bf% estimates I have been doing a 5 day split with both compound and isolation excercises all estimates will be repped

Hey Guys,
I just finished this year's 12 week transformation challenge and was hoping to get your opinion of where I started and finished. For reference, I measured myself with calipers at 16% starting and 10.5% finish, both of which I think are a little low but I'm curious to hear your opinions. All photos were taken relaxed. Thanks for the input!

Terrible lighting IMO. I'd say around 15-16%, but hard for me to tell.
Don't know which caliper method you're using, but Jackson-Pollock will underestimate with the majority, whereas Durnin-Womersley is fairly accurate or may slightly overestimate. You could try posting better photos, or wait and see what others have to say.
@Anonymous391 18%
@pmw961 12-13%
@AlexisWorkrate - Height weight proportionate and untrained.
@socalgreggie97 Probably under 15%. As mentioned last week by others : low fat and low LBM. If abs are a goal, then you'd want to build a solid muscle base first
*Don’t ask for weekly updates in this thread please.
@MD792 Looks like a stomach and your left pec, not much to go on and you are stretched out which makes you look thinner. 16-19% estimate. If you are really going to try and take progress pic every few weeks or months do yourself a favor and take some real pics. Stand relaxed. Front side and back. You don't have to post them here.
Most people looks thinner with there arms over their heads.

Sorry for the bad lightning ... hopefully these pictures are better. I used Jackson-Pollock 3 point method for the caliper measurement. So I guess that's why it's underestimated.

Pop by the OP and look at the pics of generic male BF 15-20%
At 12% most men with some muscle such as yourself will see some abdominal muscle poking though, and will have very little back fat by the waist of their trunks.

Hi i am currently 5'9" or 174cm and 90kg. Today is already a month since i start changing my diet and ive lost around 4kg since (yeay me). Can anyone please estimate my BF%? Thanks!
*pics in bodyspace
last time i tried this i got told 20 to 21 % fat, was kind of a shock, as i had to be lower, lets try it again, its a bit hard, loads of skin :(

Looks like 13-16% area. I think you are done with diet mode.

Hard to say, not much to go on in pics, I hesitate to even offer an estimate. 20%+/- BF is rough ballpark.
Would love some help advice on whether a bulk would be sufficient at this stage. thanks guys, due to my post count, I only have progress photos if you could check those out.
Thanks
I am 6'1 178lbs with a 35 inch waist line
Sorry for the poor photo (and the horrendous PJ shorts...), but keen to hear from this photo people's estimations on the abs.
Thanks in advance guys!

About 21%BF.
I would rather cut some first.

Hard to be precise due to pic limitations... but 23-24%BF feels correct.

appreciate your advice

damn, i actually know my BF % this time, its 6%, its measured with the caliper one by a specialist.
but loads of skin hanging which makes it look terrible, just wondered what it looks like to others!
used to weight 140 kg, am @ 72 now so gone train to fill it up as much as possible!
thanks for the guess though!

Yes.
You'll generally get underestimated by a big margin through calipering. There are "better" methods like the Durnin&Womersley-formula, but there are still no guarantees for an accurate reading.

Good luck with your continued progress.
Have you thought about starting a training journal here? Workout program forum is a good spot.
Take time with the gainz, none of us ever filled out all the skin from huge weight loss with muscle. But the muscles all got bigger and stronger.
