You can gain muscle in a cut, plenty of studies show considerable body recomposition in a calorie deficit. It’s going to be easier the higher your BF is, the less training experience you have and the smaller the calorie deficit is.
I am not sure the «body composition analysis» will be any more precise than the estimates from people here...
I still think you should go all out for gaining mass instead of cutting further. You don’t need to eat in a surplus for that, maintenance is enough for many people.
I had back surgery last summer to replace a cervical disc. So I'm kind of a comeback kid. A trainer at my gym was surprised I'd even be able to lift again afterwards.
I'm not sure I want to put on slabs of mass if it's going to make it harder on my cervical spine. So I lift for strength, not really for bulk. I have my physical this Friday, I'll ask my doctor for his definitive word on it.
The pictures you shared in that example chart have ranges that are WAY too big
You can’t have one picture for everything between 15 and 20%
Agree with this. I have found the more attention you pay to this thread, the better you will be at gaining a reasonable understanding of what bf% looks like.

Here's the updated pic with just a mild midsection flex.

Your waist looks smaller in that picture, but the lack definition/separation in the abs, obliques, arms, chest, all still point to being at least 20%
You're definitely not 25%... but i'm still seeing about 20%
Not sure if I've posted this before... but here are some examples of how I see bodyfats up to ~20%:

I trust your judgement but..the dude in the 17-18 range here though. His arms look like play dough. Make mine look ripped by comparison. Especially in person..by their sides taking pictures not as much. I see near zero definition on this dude overall. And the torso body hair creates more illusion of bodyfat. Just another taller dude getting the benefit of the doubt in the bf department on first glance.
I don't see how he's lower bf than me. I'd have pegged him at 20-22, if you hadn't said otherwise. Not that this is about him, just saying. It's hard to understand.

I mean those are my examples man… and my opinion on where you’re at.
It’s fine if you disagree or want to wait for others to chime in, but so far my assessments have been very consistent and it seems like most people are agreeing on the subject.
None of what I’m saying is a personal thing… I’m just telling you what I’m seeing.
I don’t think trying to justify why my opinion is what it is will go anywhere. Like I said, you’re free to disagree, and you’ve made great progress.
-
Perhaps I'm just asking too close apart at monthly intervals. Because it seems like I'm losing even still, but the assessments don't change. And this is where my frustration probably lies. Or perhaps the battle is mostly in my own head. For sure if you don't win there it doesn't happen in reality.
Don't get me wrong, I couldn't have made it this far without my peers here. I posted not too long ago that I had all but given up on losing weight again. I learned how to count macros like a pro, and give myself nothing extra for working out.
I just want to shift gears again, all the while respecting my previous injury and getting there despite it.

Any guesstimates to what body weight I should reach for 10-12 % bodyfat for that adonias belt?
Currently 170lbs and 5"10. Honestly can't tell if it's because I have wide hips ruining my V adonias belt shape. I have 165kg deadlift 2reps and 130kg squat 3 reps.
Not flexing at all in photos. Thinking about dropping down to 155-160 lbs to get to around 22 bmi which will be below average weight for my height.
With tape measure method it says I''m 10 - 11% bodyfat. 30.5 inch waist.

You can’t measure bodyfat with a tape measure…

This is why I suggested going for mass building instead of cutting further. I think that you will be able to "recomp" your way into a better body composition in that way and not have to keep "spinning your wheels" cutting further down. I may be wrong on this of course, it's only a suggestion. I don't think you have to lift heavy to build mass, you can do higher reps (up to about 30 reps builds mass as long as you take the reps close enough to failure). And of course you should always do this in consultation with your doctor; but if you are already strength training while cutting now it seems like this is already something you have been given a green light to do? I would honestly think it's more risky to lift heavy while cutting than while maintaining your weight.
At your height, a 1 pound increase in lean mass will be much more noticeable than on a taller guy which also works to your advantage.

I will consider it. Really. But..
The target has moved since I last met with my doctor. I need a new opinion before I decide what comes next in terms of a pivot, to gain or to cut and how- given my medical history and up to date labs, etc. I have the appointment set for Friday.

What on earth are you talking about?
MRI > DEXA > Hydro Static > Calipers > BIA/Measurements.
In that order, that is how accurate they are.
However, EVERY method of measurement using those tools is subject to errors and issue when it comes to individual variability in fluids, etc.
Not sure whats up your azz today, but I have never said anything of the sort.
Maybe go make some friends so you can be less butt-hurt.

This is a tough call.
If I were just going off your upper abs, legs, and arms, i'd say you're around 12-13%... but you hold more fat/loose skin on your navel area which does make it much harder to judge.
I'm guessing somewhere around 13-ish could be possible... but it's a really difficult one for me.
How lean is your back?

My back is also pretty lean like my arms and legs the only think which confuses me is my abs.. if it wasn’t for my lower abs I would be around 12 or 11% but being this low and not having a single lower ab confuses me.. I guess my fat storage genetics are to blame

~13% sounds accurate thx Mateo and Adam. I uploaded pics taken in sunlight since that first pic wasn’t great quality. At 10% do you think my obliques and lower abs will show, or will I have to shoot for like 8%?

All of this is irrelevant because you should be bulking, not cutting.
If you got any leaner/lighter, you'd be carried away by a mild wind (only kidding).
Focus on building mass... not cutting. Cut when you're closer to your natural limits... in like, 3 years maybe.

Body Fat Estimate?
Good morning everyone, just wanted to get everyone’s thoughts on my bf% , still can’t add pictures directly so I’ve added 3 into my dashboard from a front/side/back. If you could please take a look and let me know your thoughts that would be awesome. 5’7 and 135ish just had a 10lb cut and looking to bulk up big time this upcoming fall —> spring.
Thank you all.
