I'm 30 lbs in after 5 weeks or so, pretty happy with the rate that I'm losing at, haven't ever been 'in shape' in my life so I figured I might as well do it now.
Starting to see body changes, here I am currently relaxed.
Calculations tell me that I'm 20%~21% but I feel like I don't look that. Estimates?
Weight: 255
Height: 6'4"
Navel: 41.5"
This is not meant to sound discouraging in any way, shape or form, but you are not close to 20-21% yet.
I'd say 28-30% is a safe estimate. That's how I see it.
That said, the most important thing is you're losing fat and making significant progress. Stay disciplined and you'll reach your goal.
Also, I think this chart is fairly accurate as far as BF% goes: http://www.builtlean.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/body-fat-percentage-men-1.jpg
Good luck.
would u say im 33-35%? cuz thats what I've been telling ppl lol. can i now tell ppl i'm 28-30
I don't think you're as high as 35%, somewhere around the 30% mark. Some of your lifts require a bit of muscle mass so that's why I estimated you 28 to 30%.

You look to be around 23%BF as of now.
Cutting all the way down to 10% might be taking it a bit too far, aim for 12+ %BF the first time. Start lifting immediatly to make the best of your cut.

Yup, about 22%BF.
Depends on what you're comfortable with and/or if you have a set goal for summer. I'd say cut, but that's me.
As you said, back and shoulders are leaner (sub20), while chest and belly carry more fat (mid20's). I'd say you're about 22%BF.
I would recommend a standard deficit and keeping up your lifts to preserve lean mass.
Thanks for the insight. By "standard deficit" do you mean around like 300 calories below maintenance?
-
Thanks for the insight. By "standard deficit" do you mean around like 300 calories below maintenance?
Standard is -500 kcal, which would mean ≈1lb of weight loss per week, on average.

22-23%. IMO, it's time to cut. I'd aim for 200 and see how that looks.
-
@th9302 what others said. 22-25% pretty reasonable to cash in on some of those gainz with a cut.
@hhh good work on the training and fat loss. IKWYM it can be hard to get a good feel for body fat as it's coming off and you are over 25%
30% is close enough. Just keep grinding, you will know more as time goes by. The longer the cut the more you just have to keep your eyes on today.
@andym 20-25% is ballpark, looks fine to do some fat loss in general.
@glore sorry no comment from me on goals for teens.

Thanks.

Scales are never accurate, as they have no real way of determining what's fat and what's not. They are usually based on a 'sample person' of X height, which based on Y weight, gives a BF% reading of Z.
You look to be around 22%BF. Even fat distribution.

Thanks for your estimation. I would prefer 20%bf lol, but I guess 22% is more real
I have a scale at home, and once a month I get a measurement (weight and bf%) in the gym on a, supposedly, more accurate scale apparatus. I just ordered a caliper from Amazon and will compare the 3 measurements.

BF % estimate
I'm currently 6 weeks into a cut and I was wondering if I could get a second opinion on what body fat % I am.
My goal is to get to 10% body fat and then begin lean bulking.

5 10, 177lbs. Aiming for sub 10. Would have estimated 12-13 now.
Tend to hold a lot of fat in midsection, arms/back/legs tend to look much leaner.

Trying to do a slow bulk since I still don't really have any muscle, just wondering what BF% I am starting at.
I am guessing 14-16%ish but looking for other estimates.

Seeing as I've put on some serious fat, what would you rate bf% last summer? Trying to get back to that or get leaner, never knew what I got down to before.

If the other parts are equally or more defined, I can't see you being higher than 12%BF.

I see you around 11%-ish. 11.5% at most. In other words, very close to your goal, but you may already be there.
-
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how do you calculate what bf% you want to get to in pounds? For example Tucane gave me an estimate of 20% bf:
215x20%= 43 pounds
If I want to get down to 10%bf I'd have to lose 21.5lbs??
I'd weigh 193.5lbs.....is that correct?

I cut out all junk food & lost 7 pounds in the last two months, should I incorporate more carbs to bulk up more, or stay lean & just eat healthy? Can you gain muscle on or at maintenance /small surplus. At what point does your surplus get stored as fat?
