Very plausible.
The biggest problem with calipers is actually in getting the consistency down.
Just a small change in how much skin you are pinching, the location you are pinching or how much pressure you are applying with the calipers can alter the results.
All true. Agree 100%. But it does give you SOMETHING to keep an eye on. For some folks (like me) some kind of tracking is better than nothing. Something to quantify. Do your best to remember the EXACT spot you used for consistency. Write it down if you have to.

Me either but I agree super lean. I have heard sub 10% to what a male would be.
That would be 3.7% according to dexa which seems too low. Maybe 15%? Total guess. And hard to tell with a back pick. I can make out a bit of your shoulders in the mirror.

I actually like calipers for a couple reasons:
1. Unlike dexa, hydro, bod pod, BIA, etc, calipers actually measure what you SEE, as opposed to relying on essentially a computer program to run an algorithm/formula.
2. It’s super cheap, fast, and accessible for most people... tho I admit finding someone who know how to do it is harder
3. It’s harder to ‘trick’ calipers unless subcutaneous water changes massively for u... unlike dexa which would also factor in fluids and other things INSIDE your body.
But point #1 is my biggest thing... I mean if what we care about is the fat we can SEE/pinch... it would make sense to measure that IMO
Hey everybody,
Lost and old account and just got back into it after a long injury and inactivity so wondering body fat % and how much weight do you guys think I should lose before abs start showing?
stats:
weight: 183lbs

thanks in advance!

I'm going to estimate 25-26%.
Lose 15-20 lbs of fat to start to see abs.
Way to get back to it after being off!

Im 20 yo/ 178cm and 100kg
I was skinny fat and stuck around 15% for nearly 8 months so decided to bulk up, ended up gaining 30kg in a year, I have gained some fat during the quarantine. I have got stronger and lift heavy. I am going to start cutting soon but just wanted to know rough BF. Scales are saying 37% BF, however, when looking online I do not see myself as 37%, however, I could be wrong.
I also seem to have more fat on my right side pec and also right lower back, I am wondering if anyone has some advice for that.

No idea on why your gaining fat awkwardly on one side. You can't spot reduce so hopefully it'll come off the same way it went on.
IMO 37% isn't far off. Maybe 33-35%
When I do a quick Google of 37% it looks pretty similar.
Good luck on your cut but don't cut too hard!

You're probably around 21%, 7kg more *might* put you in the 15% range, hard to tell though until you actually do it, you may need to lose a bit more than that.

I actually started off with 84.2 kg 7.5 weeks ago, already lost almost 8kg. Thanks for your reply, I’ll keep working towards my goal and update here once i lose another 7kg!
I've been back working out after like almost 10yrs. and lots of beers for 4weeks. Figured I'd take a few pics. My starting morning weight was 191-192 and now 189-190.
Diet has been cleaned up (couldn't have been much worse) and staying at just under maint. with the exception of sometimes going slightly over on weekends when doing heavier compounds but also doing a lot more activity. Example I did full leg workout then walked 5 miles with the family in the afternoon.
My goal is eventually to get to 13-14% again, just seeing what you guys think I'm at now.

Around 25% I think
Height: 6'0
Weight: 172
BF% (on scale): 20.8%
I'm in a cutting phase now and am aiming for 13-14%.

About 20% and assuming you lose no lean mass at all, you would have to drop to 160# to get between 13-14%.
Height: 183cm
Weight: 70kg
I've been skinny fat my whole life. Started working out a year ago and decided to bulk up but ended up just getting fat after like 2 months (88.5kg in the before pic). I didn't want to be in a limbo stage and I was tired of having a belly my whole life so I decided to just cut down and get skinny af so that I could set up a long clean bulk and not reach 20%+ BF again. I didn't lift through the whole diet and now I've gotten down pretty low for my height. I'm at a point where I see abs in good lighting but in regular lighting they're barely visible.
My weight is way lower than I thought I'd ever get to but looking at pics I still feel like I could lose more to set up a long clean bulk.. Or is my base now good enough and should I not bother trying to get any lower? I just have this small fear of bulking and getting back to looking how I used to. Also curious what my BF was in the before as well?

I would say around 14% but hard to tell if you've got a bit of loose skin or not
So I've gotten back to working out 12 weeks ago (after an 8 year hiatus), and my first aim was to lose fat through eating slightly below maintenance and resistance training.
Day 1
70.3kg (155lbs)
Waist (at navel): 36"
Height: 173cm / 5'9"

Week 12
66.9kg (147lbs)
Waist (at navel): 33.75"
So a 3.4kg (7.5lbs) net loss, around 0.3kg (0.6lbs) per week - 0.5% per week I guess.
My plan is to get leaner so that I can slowly bulk without putting on too much fat as I know that trying to bulk whilst being at the higher end of bodyfat% will bias weight gain towards fat.
https://imgur.com/a/U9U8tKM (or see attached images)
I'd like to get a bodyfat % estimate of where I started and where I am now after 12 weeks.
Thanks a lot!

Hi Guys,
I'm after some guidance - I've been cutting for a loooong time (234lb at my heaviest) and I'm now 142lb at 5'9".
I still have a belly which I'm not happy with so cutting seems sensible, but am I approaching skinny territory given my fairly light weight? I clearly haven't got a lot of muscle mass under it!
Didn't know whether to start a very slow bulk so I can start lifting properly - I've been at it regularly for about 9 months but still lifting baby weights.
My post count isn't high enough for pics/links so I've added a couple to my Bodyspace profile, hope they show up...

Eat at maintenance with high protein and train hard. your body fat will help grow out muscle and you will gain lean tissue and lose fat at a slow rate.

Thanks.
My maintenance is about 1800kcal but I'd recently read that you absolutely need a surplus to gain muscle so I'd planned to eat at 2000kcal.
Even better if I can just eat at maintenance since I'm a little paranoid about getting fat again. I guess I'll know if I'm eating enough if my lifts start going up right?

Actually my TDEE according to this site is lower than the one on TDEEcalculator.net at 1715. No fun being this light and still chubby!!!
I am 104 years old which may account for the lower calculations.

I have always wanted to learn how to bodybuild. I'm currently staying at a apartment complex for a 3 month program that I'm part of (nothing to do with exercising).
This apartment only contains a small gym with dumbbells, a few machines, and no barbell. I won't be able to go to any other gym as I don't have a car nor any sort of transportation to get to one.
