FWIW if you just started training recently it's uncommon to have low BF. BF is in essence a ratio of muscle to fat, influenced by both muscle and fat. IMO the less training history the harder to estimate BF. It gets into real guesswork. People try to fix untrained status with all manner of diet and exercise gymnastics. Becoming trained is the main thing, and managing any significant BF overage.
Tricks are all bullcrap, almost everyone has to work steady in the gym for 1-2 years.

curious about my BF%. I'm 5'9 and weight 234 atm. i was originally 260 beginning of year. I know I have a long way to go, but I'm still curious. my pant size is 38 inches. I generally wear large-xlarge shirts. Also, if possible, let me know what weight i should go to to have a 6 pack/be around 10-12%bf.
if it helps, my current lifts are: bench 215 for 3 reps, squat 280 for 4 reps, deadlift 380 for 5 reps.

What's my BF?
I feel like I have a weirdly smaller waist than I should, so it screws up my BF% Whenever I check I end up getting around 33 in. and I weigh around 177. I'm 5'9 on the dot. Calculators will then tell me I'm 16% BF, but I really don't think I look it. I feel like my body looks like it should be in the 20-25% range. If it helps my bench max is 195 for 1 and squat <275 for 1. What do you guys think? (i don't ****ing know why my cheeks are puffed out and weird in the pic)

About 20%BF imo. Don't worry about what you'll look like at low BF, cut away and then put on some more mass.

Hi. Currently in a clean bulk. I'm 28 years old, 179 cm.
Started in January at 168.4 pounds.
Weighed in this morning at 176.4 pounds.
To me I haven't been gaining a lot of fat. But you be the judges. What is my BF% in your opinion?
Thanks!

@ ltspfc Low teens, up to you how you progress. GJ
@calvilloIsGod IDK 15% your mass gain looks like it's going good. GJ
@numberguy12 BF% = untrained, BF estimates aren't all that helpful to relatively lean people starting srs weights. Sorry hard to estimate effectively, harder with a tiny image.
@ConquerMyself Ballpark 25+% BF area.

For a range maybe 31-35%BF.
It is really hard to pin down, as waterweight is a big factor appearencewise and the amount of visceral fat (around organs) is unknown.

You say low teens... under 12 or over it?
I'm asking this because some formulas on net based on waist and hips measures tell me 9 lol...
and i, personally, think is 14.
really sorry to bother you again.

Calipers give me 8.2%, and God knows I'm digging DEEP and pinching HARD to get my measurements. I mean everytime I measure I try to get as much as possible and beat the last reading (try to get more) in my mind. Still I stay consistently at abs: 11mm, thigh: 8.5mm and chest: 8.5mm.
It's not a good indicator though. It's just good to track progress. In my case it's the same as the beginning of my bulk, which indicates fat gains have been minimal.

Well keep in mind you are asking for a very close BF tolerance without any pics of your legs.
Legit 9% you start to see feelings, so yeah the calipers are gonna caliper. JMO throw the calipers in the trash, it's one more thing to worry about you don't need. If you said 14% I don't think anybody would argue with you much about it.
-

Still, even if the number isn't relevant, calipers are still useful to track whether you gain or lose body fat, no? Even if we're just talking in terms of skinfold MMs...

Why? If it's not a good indicator, and we already have many other much simpler and faster indicators its fluff and a waste of time.
40 years from now will we look back at our caliper logs and feel they were a good use of time? Who really is 10-15% BF and does not have a general idea from the pics in the OP?

I see your point. I do think there is some value in knowing ones body fat % in the absence of resistance training though. It wont always be very high, it will still depend on the calories (fat) they intake and expend I assume.

BF% and Thoughts on bulk
First two pics are unflexed. Third pic is obviously flexed and last pic is where I was roughly 6 months ago. I'm 200lbs 6'3. Thinking about doing a 4 week IF cut because while I'd like to keep bulking I'm tired of the gut and bitch tits forming. Thoughts?

Yeah i dont believe in the 9... even under the measurement of a caliper...
You asked the legs, so here they comes lol.
I request a more precise feedback just to clarify to me, where i'm compared with the buildlean bodyfat images
(i cant link images yet... so just google buildlean in the google images to see the male scale of body fat)

Back again, after about a month. This time I went for gains. Do the following pics (January vs March) look like good progress for a month's work? (January wasn't a gain month so I don't count that.) Am I adding fat here. That's gotta be substantially muscle. My pants still fit the same. Good? Because I'm considering going to 4 or 5 workouts per week up from 3. And this will influence my decision. I figure I might go back to cutting sometime around May 1 and try to lose 8 lbs in that month for summer.
I am 190 in the first pic, 195 in the second. Same body fat percentage?

Thanks! I think I limited my fat gains in this bulking phase. This is the first time ever I commit into a clean bulk so I'm pretty pleased with the results, though I feel like most of the mass gains have been distributed in my legs (huge progress on squats lately)

Body Fat % Estimate
Hello,
I am trying to get an estimate on my body Fat %. I am approximately 5'9 and about 175lbs. I have been trying to get a six pack now for quite sometime. I consider myself to be very active. How long should it take me to reach that goal do you think? I am a newer member so my pictures will be on my profile gallery if someone could take a look. My main one is my main profile picture. Thanks!
