So that means my abs might be more visible at 17% but no guarantee because people have different genetics.
However they should be visible once I get to 14%, no matter if 4 pack or 6 pack
yes, you should be able to see individual abs at 14%

Estimate?
Hey everyone, first time posting- new to this so bear with me.
I have been toying with lifting the last few years, after tipping the scale at my heaviest during COVID I've started to workout with more of a purpose. I've lost 20lbs so far and want to keep leaning out slow and steady. I've been using my scale for a rough BF % just to keep some sort of record, right now it has me @ 24-25% how close to that do I look?
34 yo
6 ft
194 lbs.
Thanks!
Current (2/19/21) can be seen on my profile.

lol I guess that’s not so bad but was hoping for around 18%. Have been told I look athletic at this weight and it feels better. Might be time to drop back down to 170-175 though, 20% is a little much. Thanks man, much appreciated.

6' 231 lb photos in my body space progress photos from 2/22/21.
This info should help some goals other than just drop weight.
Thanks

I think my concern is being too big for my height. I normally like to hang out around 170-175 anyway and even that’s pushing it but about two months ago just had the urge to lift heavier and eat more. The goal is still to look as athletic as possible and if someone is perceiving me at 20% that’s concerning to me lol, especially when that someone know what they’re talking about.
I might just say fuk it and own it though. Stepped on the scale this morning to see 185 and it does feel good.
We’ll see, might check back in here at 200 in a month or two haha

I guess what I would say is that purposefully gaining more fat won’t put your health in a better spot...
Will losing fat make you MORE healthy? Well, possibly... you might have better insulin sensitivity if you lost 10-15lb..
However, you’re one of those rare generic cases that even at 20% you’d look super lean and fit in a shirt, because you hold so much mass in your legs and shoulders/traps... so even those your BF is closer to 20%, you’d never know it in a normal setting.

At 5-9 185lb you definitely have reasons to cut fat right now, including better insulin sensitivity and overall health.
You're at around 30% Bodyfat I believe.

Hi,
Does anyone have any ideas on my current body fat please?

I’ve been cutting from 83kg the last few months and thinking about bulking again,
Thanks
Pardon me for saying but this thread has seemed to have become a particularly mean and hostile place in the past week or so.
Lets just assume this thin person has an eating disorder.
And he may not, he may just be a thirteen year old kid. From his picture, it wouldn't surprise me one bit.
And lets take it off the table whether minors should be in the forum for the moment.
Bullying him into compliance isn't the answer- either way.
I posted pictures for my part, didn't even get a response- and perhaps I dodged a bullet considering how others have been treated.
The implication I may be 13 is the bullyingest thing I’ve heard so far. How do I look 13 to you?

I don’t mean to derail, but given your body weight and your interest in BF% I have to wonder if you have some food restriction issues.
Is this the case?

Hi there,
I have no food restriction issues here :), just originally lost weight without lifting a long time ago.
I am just restarting after 2 weeks of finding my maintenance :). Was wondering if cutting down was necessary at first again.
Thanks in advance for estimation.

A good rule of thumb is to just take what you'd estimate for a dude and add 7-9% points to it.

Thanks man, I really appreciate it.
You look shredded in your profile pic friend, more similar to what a real 9-10% BF is... wouldn't that put me in about 12% BF (that was my original self estimation)?
As for my history and training/diet: I lifted in my twenties but I wasn't too serious about it. As everyone else, I was getting newbie gains without really knowing what I was doing. Anyway, I got decent progress back then... I also used to play different sports (mostly recreational and a little bit organized in high school and university): baseball, basketball, table tennis, etc
Then life got in the way and although I was having great results at the professional level and was extremely happy with my growing family, I lived a sedentary life for more than 10-12 years and ended up obese (still happy with myself and with my life, but obese).
So I started really serious 5 years ago with everything on point: training, diet, recovery, etc. Since I started obese and I've previously lifted, I guess muscle memory helped in some way along and I was able to do recomposition (like a lot)... gained back muscle and lost a lot of fat.
I'm currently eating about 2800-3000 cals daily (getting about 180-200 gr of protein daily and the remaining cals distributed between fats and carbs), supplementing with Protein, creatine and pre-workout. I'm not longer tracking every macro of my diet, but part of my results were initially to doing so... I learned to get a good balance nutrition because of it.
As for training: I train 5 days a week and I've tried different splits like PPL, BROish splits and some random/custom one I've designed in order to try to squeeze a particular movement more than one time per week in order to progress better on it. My focus is powerbuilding, I really like to deadlift, squat and bench press and also I like to progress on all other bodybuilding classic movements. I'm currently back to one muscle per week: Monday-Chest, Tuesday-Back, Wednesday-Shoulders, Thursday-Legs, Friday-Arms (but also performing first movements that hit again the chest and the back, like bench press and weighted dips and chin-ups)
I also try to begin everyday with a big/challenging compound movement: Mon-Bench, Tues-Deadlifts, Wed-Overhead Press, Thurs-Squat, Fri-Bench and Weighted-Chins
I also try to apply double progression to my movements, trying to get stronger both in low and high reps.
Sorry about the long message, I hope this also helps other people trying to achieve their goals!

Im honestly not sure I'm leaner than you in my avi... at least not by much
Reason I say that is because you hold SO much more lean mass than me (I'm 6-foot and only weigh like 146lb right now), and I also can't tell if your quads are flexed.
There is a chance, yes, you're between 10-12%, but I just think with the amount of muscle you're holding, 10% or so is more likely. I can see all your abs, you have thin skin around your obliques... the only thing that would make me think otherwise would be lower-body leanness. Your TORSO certainly is lean enough to justify an estimate of 10% or so.
That's a very cool story. I actually follow some of the same methods right now from your PPL days, but I suffered from an eating disorder for a LONG time and i'm only now seeing longer term progress after 15+ years of lifting.
If I could get to your point by age 40 (i'm 35 now) I would be thrilled!

Every so often the forum gets super weird errors... it’s frustrating. I’m not sure what causes it.
Basically you’ll type a response that’s too long for whatever reason and it’ll just not let you post.
You can try making a shorter response and see if it helps, but I haven’t been able to figure out why it happens sometimes.
