Start by making yourself more well-known around school. Your first step to doing so should be finding and/or showcasing stuff that you're really good at; for me it's rugby, powerlifting, and scientific research. No matter what that "stuff" might be for you, just ensure that you put yourself out there. This will facilitate the process of making new friends. In turn, such friends can introduce you to girls they know. Then you can go from there.
I know it's a rather idealistic and simplified process; however, it's bound to be more effective than simply going around and cold-approaching chicks. After all, most girls won't throw themselves at some random, new kid unless you're really good-looking.

Not a red flag, keep talking to her see how it goes. Girls want guys to message them first I have a lot of friends that are girls who simply will not message a guy first but then I have plenty that will. Don't let one sided expectations get the best of you bruh

Short backstory: Im in Year 12, final weeks of school left& there's this girl I have started talking with between study/spare periods (when no classes are on if thats a thing in 'muurrrrica) we are both very sporty, shes apparently ranked #47 in junior women's golf while I play basketball, outdoor rock climb and previously an excellent track runner (long distance) so we have things in common.
Every study line I have she has english class, and she doesn't even go half the time to class. I study in the library because it's the only freaking air-conditioned building available for study, she comes and also studies/messes with my phone while I grab her essays from the printer and we talk and stuff. Only mild touching, I make her smile & laugh a lot but I don't know if I have the green light to go if ya get my flow? I haven't added her on FB or got her number yet (apparently not talking often to a girl makes them want you more...?) I discerned that she likes scary movies (fk that sh*t) like saw, final destination, cabin in the woods ect. I want to ask her over but would it be the right move? I'm not the sleep around type of guy, I dont want her to get the impression that I just want to fck her. How would I ask her? I haven't been in a serious relationship before. Im not ugly at all, not to boost my ego (i try to be humble) but i have been called cute, smiles at/had stares ect. I dont have a massive body, just mild chest, toned 6-pac and arms, huge calves from running ect. I probably sound like a dick now lol but help is much appreciated.

If she hugs other guys and not you....AND calls you buddy or pal..That lights the bulb in my head that this girl isn't interested. She is purposely giving signals that she doesn't like you and doesn't want to hug you cuz if she did hug you, you'd get the wrong idea. Imo this girl isn't calling you buddy or pal to make you jealous or something, she is doing it because she isn't interested. This sounds like a joke or something..You described someone you want as a FRIEND as being really attractive (9/10). So I'm pretty sure you WERE flirting with her. She thought you wanted to date her but you just wanted a female friend who is hot that you can flirt with (I see this often). So fine a different fun person
