Sorry, having issues posting pictures in the thread since I can't put a direct link in to my reply. I have 3 pictures on my account, two relaxed one flexing. If anyone could give me a basic % estimate I'd appreciate it. I've gone from about 285 to 185 in the last two years, and I feel like I have a pretty strong base to work off of. What % should I be aiming for to start to see a real cut physique?
You don't build muscle from bulking.
You build muscle by ripping your muscle fibres, they repair themselves, and you go and rip them again, that's what your routine is for, any routine that hits each muscle once per week will do this. At the moment, and for the next 2 years or until you are below 14% bodyfat, forget about the word bulking!
:)
To grow for the first few years, all you need to do is lift, even if you're cutting, you'll grow, it's slow, but we are natural lifters.
Because you are overweight, what you need to do is go on a very small calorie deficit, say if your maintenance calories are 2200, you need to go to 2000 calories, maybe 1800 calories.
Stop taking advice from the mass amount of idiots on this website that persuade new lifters to bulk, they are ignorant. :) GL
Hi, really appreciate an estimate. Most machine estimates I've had seem wildly incorrect!
I'm 6'1'' and weigh 198.6lbs.

I'd say 14-15.. I'm not great at estimating but side shot shows abdominal area comiing through and you have decent vascularity @ arms

1 lb a week, and iifym is fine.
haha thanks a lot brah. I'll stick a few extra on that because I looked at the other two estimates you have on this page and I think they're definitely on the low side.
Happy enough with 17-18 though, makes goals seem achievable.
Thanks for the estimate.
Yeah, some of this dude's estimates are upwards of 8% lower than what I'd guess, most in the 3-4% too low range. I'd definitely say you're below 20%, probably right there at 17% like you predict. Tons of mass though. GJ!

They are different to the average estimate, but it's through documentaries and what I've seen from bodyfat testing that I base my estimates on.
Again, you cannot compare a normal looking person against a bodybuilder with a good amount of muscle, the skin is not being pushed in the same way, so it's never going to be as tight in certain areas and thus the person looks heavier, just because someone has a small layer of visceral fat doesn't mean they are 18%.
I also remember a thread by Abdominator on here years and years ago regarding bodyfat estimates.

1lb a week is good.
IIFYM is just calorie counting + specific carb / fats percentages. If you don't know much about nutrition then use it, but honestly, counting calories, and having a good source of protein / carbs is good enough for most.

Stats: 5'10, 172lbs, 30.75" waist (measured around navel).
