Hey, I'm Nathan, I've gone through a year of working out hard and fixing my diet/nutrition, however I've seemed to hit a wall with the weight/fat loss. I've seen great strength gains and am doing my first 5K in March, I lost 50 lbs in about 5 months but from August-present put it all back on plus, I'm probably sitting around 230 from the 252 where I started, however I'm wondering if you have any advice on how to get some better results. Is caloric restriction really the only way? I have been diligent with tracking macros/cals/food logs with mfp and iifym, however I didn't like being weak so I kind of allowed myself some room to get stronger, the added weight/ not looking where I want to be after a year is disheartening. I know this is a long process, but if I need to keep my cals in check to get the results I will do so. I don't want to discredit myself, each day is a lot of little battles won and many lessons learned, I am able to eat better and eat less each day and that is great, I guess I just have long ways to go. Calories in vs calories out, my friend. People react different to diets, some might be close to maintainance but add lots of cardio. I can do cardio but I'm more persistent when I have a very strict diet and mostly skip cardio all together. I also have long and taxing workouts, spend about 2 hours a day, 6 days a week on a 3 split work out routine now - so I'll burn extra calories there as well, which I don't account for.
Set a goal for yourself, don't just go with the flow or you'll be one of those yoyo dieters. I had to tell myself that I'd rather drop down to 180pounds and get shredded than stay 200, have some more muscle, but having love handles over beach season. There are always trade-offs, but if you keep trying hard enough, you'll eventually get there bro

I was happy to hit 195 pounds during x-mas, and started increasing my training volume to 6 times a week, still with a 3 day split, pretty much following arnold's blueprint.
Today, I'm 190 pounds and I will keep cutting since I'm aiming to hit 8% body fat in July. I'm thinking about moving back to Sweden to resume studies and compete again, either setting a goal for a smaller men's physique contest in 2017, or traditional sports.[/QUOTE]

I've only very recently just started posted pics since I still have such a long way to go, but figured now would be a better time as any as I am also on a journey of self acceptance.
I have been obese pretty much all my life. I started my weightloss journey in August 2014 at 378 pounds(1.5yrs ago) and to date have lost 110 pounds and now weigh 268 pounds. I still have a looong way to go but everyday i fight on.
The first pic I was a bridesmaid at a wedding and that was the turning point for me because that dress was tailored and it was so so tight on that day I was scared it would burst open at any moment. Not to mention that was a loved one's wedding but I didn't enjoy it because I felt like absolute crap, walking afew steps was a problem, even just standing around for pics was a problem, it made me so sad to be in the state I was in, i was at my lowest point ever. I tried it on the other day just for kicks and it is so loose now that it falls to the floor and I can grab lots of loose inches along the waist of the dress.
The second picture was just some outfit I tried when I'd dropped afew pounds around the start, in the latter picture in the same outfit I'm wearing the same outfit and belt and the belt now falls downwards showing inches lost which helps drill into my brain that I really have lost weight.
My biggest regret? I wish i took more before pictures in fitted clothes as the changes don't reflect too well. I am short (5ft) and so it takes losing a whole bunch of weight for it to reflect on my body. But nevertheless I feel so much lighter, better and healthier. I still have a long long way to go (150+ more pounds to lose) but for the first time in my life I have hope for a healthy future, something that has never been the case for me ever.
It's not easy posting these but I figured it may help motivate anyone starting at a high weight that hasn't started on their journey yet. It's been a rough road but everyday i'm so thankful i started, still a long way to go but I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. I make sure to eat within my deficit and gym 4-5 times a week (weights 2-3 days, cardio 2ish days).
Thanks so much to everyone who's posted on here as it's been really really inspiring.

I'm Robbie, 23 from Ireland.
I just want to say looking through this thread has given me so much hope and motivation, the transformations that people have gone through are absolutely breathtaking and the amount of support and encouragement shared between everyone is absolutely heartwarming.
My story - I was always into fitness when I was younger but at the age of 18 I unfortunately got hit with a stupidly embarrassing case of pilonidal sinus which never healed properly due to infections and I couldn't exercise on the advice of doctors etc.. So I had nothing to do and like many I turned to food as comfort as I could not exercise. Exercise meant a lot to me as it took me away from a lot of my personal troubles (helped fight depression so on so forth).
I felt hopeless up until July 2015. I was 112kg, considered myself stupidly unattractive and just had no real positive outlook on life. In July 2015 I had my last operation on the sinus (it went successful, it's VERY slow to heal, but it's healing very well). In September 2015 I was given the all clear to exercise again after the wound had closed to an acceptable size, the only thing I could not do, was swim. I bought my gym membership that day and now coming into March 2016 I'm weighing in at 84kg. It's nowhere near as amazing as a transformation as some people have gone through here but to me, it was the greatest thing that could have ever happened to me. I'm not stopping until I hit 77kg or even 70 depending on what I look like at 77kg. I've no before pictures, but this is what I'm at now!

I want to start saving my progress on here and meet new people. Any tips/pointers are welcome and greatly appreciated.
My greatest motivation was when I was a teen, I was overweight and shy, really conscious. But this past year, I am surprised of how much a change I got by just reducing my meal intake and just stop being a couch potato.) And by reducing my meal intake I don't mean going on a diet. What I did was stick to 3 meals a day, no more and I stopped eating between my meals, as I was always used to grabbing something out of the kitchen and munching on. And during my meals, just eat what I had on my plate and forget about refills. And in such a short time, i lost over 40lbs and I feel better than ever, I overcame my shyness and self-consciousness and I just want to continue down this path. :)
P.S. Shout out to Wetbreasts for motivating me to make an account here. :)

I weighed in at 370 last June 4. Knew I was on the fast track to 400-plus if I kept going the way I was going. Changed my diet, started working out six days a week and am now down to 206.

The before pics were around 3-4 years ago. I was around 187-190.

298 now. Looking for some guidance overall. Ideally I want to drop 100. I find weight training boring, enjoy jogging/running but i have no endurance and not sure where to go from here.

My weight ballooned when my mum got ill, lost all motivation, didn't feel social and just sat at home eating takeaways and other ****. Hated looking at myself in the mirror, even more so as I've always been very self confident so had to do something about it. Was 12 stone 9 in the 1st pic from August 2015 which is 180lbs I believe. In 2nd pic from today I'm 11 stone which is 154lbs. Still not happy with my body, carrying too much on my stomach, chest and face, well everywhere really, I'm only 5ft 8 so 154lbs might be light for taller people but not me haha. But you have to start somewhere and I'm pretty proud of my start so far! Will cut some more weight off for a while then hopefully start working on exactly how I want to look. Been doing weights for 5 days a week and cardio for 4-5 aswell. Completely changed my diet, hardly ever have chocolate, takeaways etc now, never have sugary drinks or anything like that either. Feel much better for it too! 3 months or so to hopefully have a reasonable beach body for the summer!

So last January I made the choice to sort my weight and life out. IT has been a long grind and sometimes tough but I am happy with how far I have come.
When I started I was 119.6kg I am now as of this morning 82.9kg, I still have around 8-12 weeks left of cutting I am to get real lean then reverse diet and slowly bulk. My chest is lagging so I will focus on that more when I bulk, but thought I would share my journey so far. I am hoping the skin around my stomach will tighten up a bit with time, or I will just have to treat it as a reminder not to go back.

You can do it. Lift heavy. Deadlift, squat, bench, etc. Starting strength is a great place to start. Figure out your BMR and maintenance calories and eat less than that. Use a calorie counter app like myfitnesspal and be sure to get 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight. Finally, do cardio to burn more. Tons of good how to lose fat and gain muscle threads and articles on here and the net. Remember, one pound of fat equals 3500 calories. 500 calories less per day equals one pound a week lost. 500 calories cardio on top of that, and you've lost two pounds. Muscle burns more calories than fat, so pack it on by lifting heavy and getting your protein. Good luck!
