Five years in between mind you, but have come along way. First pic doesn't really do me justice. I was 225 lbs at my heaviest in my early 20s.

Check my bodyspace.
Started summer of 2010 at 284. Dropped to about 270 without trying, just from added intensity at football. Started official weight loss January, 2011 at 270. Got down to about 180 at around July. Unfortunately, wasn't lifting weights anymore(became running freak), and lost a ton of muscle and strength form losing weight so fast. By November of 2011, I was at a sickly 150, and think I may have had an eating disorder(which I still deal with today mentally, but its under control). Finally decided to start lifting again in January of 2012 and got up to about 170 in March for rugby season. After graduation, I started a bulk and got to 182 in September. After the first couple of months, however, I dropped back down to 172 by October. Mid-November I decided to get back into a slow, clean bulk, and now sitting at about 183-185. Continuing to bulk until I'm like 195-200 and then cutting to about 185-190. It's a constant battle, but I love lifting weights and managing by nutrition.
I was starting from an unfair 'advantage'. As you might be able to tell from my beer gut I used to drink at least 2 cartons of beer a week, so often I was drinking an entire day's worth of calories in beer on top of the crap food I was eating.
So even without working out I probably could have dropped 10lbs just from quitting beer and not changing anything else.
I don't really count calories, I just eat clean and keep an eye on the scales/mirror.
I also do a form of IF where I fast for 24-36 hours every week or so, and most of my fat loss has come in these fasting periods. I can't recommend it highly enough for anyone who thinks they can handle that long without food, it strips fat off like magic and you still get to eat like normal the rest of the time.
The first couple of times are hard, but it gets easier the more you do it and it teaches you fantastic discipline with food. I'm actually in the 20th hour of a 36 hour fast as we speak.
Hi buddy... great progress......
I must admit buddy we all do our own thing to lose weight... theres low cal. low fat. low carb intermittant fasting big fasting like you do. soup diets veg diets etc etc.. the list can go on...
what i do say though after extensive reading and having (not to say im a master or anything there of) a slight knowledge in the way nutrition works i can honestly say that the longest time you should give your body a break from nutrition without a detrimental affect on your possible health would be something like leangains.. and that is pushing around 16 hours a time but you are still hitting your body with the nutrients needed but in a timescale.
You will maybe see results in the short term but long term you are putting your body under enormous stress for no reason other than you are trying to rid a shed load of weight you put on due to greed and binging in the first place....
You put the weight on over time so why not lose it over time... you wouldnt sit for 24-36 hours n gorge on pies n pizza so why do the opposite for the same length of time?
Each to there own... not saying its wrong but i am saying that the advice for others who are starting out and trying to lose weight are 90% of the time going to gorge on bad food after the fasting ends....
Weight loss is a discipline and needs to be correctly adhered to...
you cant say that you can possibly go to the gym and bang out great progress on squats or deadlifts or chest or even cardio 20 or so hours into fasting...
also after your workout your body is desperate for a carb intake and a progressive protien intake... You are not fuelling your body and hence making your workout possibly a total waste of time as well as not getting a full 100% workout when training...
Your body will then store as much carbs as possible when you re feed after the fast and will be scared to let go in case you do it to your body again... Your body is a clever piece of machinery..
I cant stress enough that regular, clean eating will be so much better for anyone trying to lose weight in the long term.
If you have a new car you will feed it with the best fuel and the best oil.... Whats the difference with your car and your body?
Treat your body like a car you love and cherish and it will drive for years and run smooth for longer.
Sorry for my rant... not you buddy as glad to see you have lost weight. But we are all here to agree to disagree.
where does my advice come from may anyone ask??
Well. Been there, done that, and it = ----------> FAILURE in the long run.

Cheers doughnutgut, I'm obviously no expert either but I've done a fair bit of research so I'll try respond to some of your points...
Hi buddy... great progress......

As you probably know I didn't just make this up on my own, I've also done a fair bit of reading on this theory (Eat, Stop, Eat) and there seems to be a lot of solid research out there that it has quite a few health benefits - like decreasing insulin resistance (excessive insulin resistance can lead to a form of diabetes for those who haven't heard of it before) and spiking your HGH levels.
There also seems to be solid research that you are pretty safe going 36 hours because the body uses fat stores for the first 48 hours or so before it panics and switches to starvation mode to burn muscle while trying to conserve fat (incidentally, I once wrote a speech for uni about the effects of starvation and my research into that backed up what the Eat, Stop, Eat people say in terms of the timeline of fat/muscle burning).
When you think about it from an evolutionary standpoint it seems to makes sense, because our cavemen ancestors didn't wake up every morning and gorge themselves on food out of the fridge. Instead they would have to hunt while in a fasted state and then stuff themselves with whatever they caught before it went bad. So at face value logic would suggest our bodies are evolved to be suited to the 'fast, eat, fast' cycle more than the the modern diet of eating constantly throughout the day.
Each to there own... not saying its wrong but i am saying that the advice for others who are starting out and trying to lose weight are 90% of the time going to gorge on bad food after the fasting ends....

You're probably right with that first point. It's not for everyone and I'm not here to try convert anyone (even if it may sound like it at the moment lol, I just find this **** interesting).
From personal experience I also found the gorging a problem if I only did a 24 hour fast, since night time is when I'm at my hungriest. But I naturally have very little appetite in the mornings (have to force myself to eat breakfast) so if I extended the fast to 36 hours I would wake up the next morning not hungry in the slightest and just force my my normal boring brekky down.
With regard to weight loss being a discipline, fasting has taught me a discipline with food I never thought possible. The discipline has transferred over into my normal eating days and helped me cut out snacking and binging on food completely. When you've managed to control hunger for that long it becomes easy to control mini cravings during normal days and you start to realise that a lot of the time hunger is just mental.
you cant say that you can possibly go to the gym and bang out great progress on squats or deadlifts or chest or even cardio 20 or so hours into fasting...
Definitely not. I know some proponents of Eat, Stop, Eat work out while fasted but I can't, so I schedule my fast days to fit in with my workout schedule.
I do a push, pull, legs routine - 3 days on, 1 off - so I just schedule my fast days for every 2nd rest day which works out once every 8 days.
also after your workout your body is desperate for a carb intake and a progressive protien intake... You are not fuelling your body and hence making your workout possibly a total waste of time as well as not getting a full 100% workout when training...
My routine is - finish my workout in the evening, have my whey shake, then eat my usual evening meal a few hours later before starting my fast from whenever I finish that meal.
Well. Been there, done that, and it = ----------> FAILURE in the long run.
Fair enough, but I've also seen plenty of testimonials from people who've been doing it for a long time and swear by it.
I'll definitely be monitoring it as I go along. At this stage I'm planning on doing it less and less regularly as my bodyfat levels decrease, but it seems like even at an advanced stage it would be handy to use as a mini cut once a month or something like that.

Inspired
I'm 6'2'', diabetic, if daily, and have read through every page of both threads...yes every page. I feel like I know some of you because of it. I've seen skullster make sick progress and doughnut gut get a bad wrap for being honest and trying to help. I've seen skinny dudes self promote their aesthetics and kids post pictures of themselves as fat13 year olds and then post their pics at17... But through it all the best part is motivation is there. Sometimes obvious, sometimes it evolves but is there.
I am not yet an after picture but I am in progress. Pics are in my body space and I would love any feedback or thoughts but in the mean time I wanted to say thanks for all the motivation and like many of you I hope to soon have some pictures here that will motivate others.

Slightly chubby? Yeah I wasn't as fat as many who have started on here but being unhealthy is unhealthy all the same.
Slightly fit? Fitter than some not as fit others but better than where I started.

What was your routine?
Been lifting and eating right for about a year here.
First pic was around the middle of March '11. Was at around 308 that day. Decided I was tired of being flabby and went out and got a gym membership to the local Anytime Fitness. Took me a few weeks to get into it but I got into the rhythm and love it now.
Second and third pics are today, 3-30-12. Weighed myself at 206 this morning.
Just wanting to see what your diet and exercise routine where? Killer job!

Hey, just wanted to tell everyone to keep up the good work. I posted in here when I first started back working out last may. Always an inspiration when I'm having a down day. I've been doing the powerlifting thing instead of the BB because I like it better. It takes some mental toughness to try to lose weight and powerlift because progress is slow if any at all. Hopefully I'll be down to my goal weight within the next 3 months and can start focusing on my lifts. Pictures to come at my 1 year mark, but so far I've lost 53 lbs, got my life back, and will be entering my first meet as a 30 year old rookie in the 198's in July.
Thanks for the inspiration.

I know I've shown progress a couple times, but I think this might look like the best prog so far. Thought I'd share it with all of you inspirational individuals.

I've used this topic to help motivate myself during my weight loss, so I would like to contribute and hope that my pictures can help motivate others.
The first pic started as a joke back in November 2012 when I tried to show up my friends abs by drawing my abs with a sharpie. I decided I'd replicate that picture after my weight loss (even though my abs are barely visible). The second pic is self explanatory. I gained weight between the second and third pic because I mainly did this for a friends wedding which happened yesterday (3/9), and two weeks before I kinda got a little anxious and started cheating on meals much more than I should have.
