I think I'm going to give it a shot some time in October or December, depending on my schedule. I've got a couple of guys who wanted to go with me to witness my attempt. I'm not doing the annual group challenge, just to clarify. I'm only interested in the standard eater vs. food version. I'll take any pointers offered.
Edit: No time limit as far as I am aware, though I will check before driving over. I think it's just a capacity challenge.
lol well if u start doing more frequent challenges u should start a channel too...im oddly obsessed with seeing food challenge videos (as long as they are fast forwarded or well edited)...not trying to watch 40 minute eating vid in real time lol

also that burrito is a great challenge. Thats serious value. Even if u dont finish it ure only out $17, looks messy though. The way they assembled it, not even trying to wrap everything up

Hey guys,
how does one train for a competitive eating contest? Don't say just eat..
Is there any techniques or things I should be doing on a regular basis? drinking liters of water or eating certain things to try and stretch my stomach?
I have done some goggling, and there's not much out there about "Competitive eating training"
Furious Pete is a beast!

I think that people train for it by drinking lots and eating large low density meals to stretch.
Personally I've never done any training nor will I lol
-
IMO its more of a natural ability. Either you can put down a large amount of food in short amount of time without getting full/vomiting, or you cant. "Training" can enhance the ability, but its not gonna make you go from a regular dude to Joey Chesnut.

I've never done anything before, or the night before to "Stretch my stomach" or anything like that. Some of us are just volume eaters and can just handle large amounts of food naturally.

That was my thinking as well. Not too costly, not too far out of my way, and a food that I could enjoy in large quantities.

Enjoyment disappears, just like I mentioned in the PM to you then. It becomes bland and a pain to eat

while i must say your challenge i think i watched a while ago was surprising, your meal updates have always been of food that would literally be a thumbtack of satisfaction in my stomach (as far as quantity goes) -- in fact, I've always thought you eat way too LITTLE for your weight/goals etc.. But I do know your circumstances so obvi I'm not bashing.. just thought you implying you're a volume eater was a bit funny :) I'd go more along the lines of "the capacity to eat in volume when needed"... haha

This is true
I also echo the comments from Mitch about re being able to eat large amounts or not, it's not about training

Becoming a volume eater isn't just natural. You can easily train for it.
And competitive eating is plenty of skill or else Furious Pete wouldn't have been raped by Kobayashi.
thats crazy, that must of been one expensive bill. (i'm guessing each roll is roughly 8-12$)
actually... i dont know if you guys have it there in cali, but here in NYC, there have been a recent surge in "half priced rolls" restaurants...
we discovered one in 2007 and i could only stomache 4 rolls... 2013 and 50lbs lighter i'm doing 10 haha
so the bill wasn't all that high at $2.50 a roll.
i have a craving for sushi so i will take a pic and post on the MEN thread once that happens. maybe take a video (really bad quality so the 15 mins i spend enjoying my food will fit in terms of uploading the video) to prove it's all me haha

10 sushi rolls isn't many but, right?

This. Can smash a few dozen and still hungry
-
10 sushi rolls isn't many but, right?
Although I love sushi and it ranks fairly high on my list of favorite foods, it is one of the least filling things I have ever eaten, and expensive to boot. If I'm paying, I can only afford to do an AYCE sushi buffet or special menu lest I end up gnawing my own arm off in hungry frustration or putting myself into massive debt.
10 sushi rolls isn't many but, right?
I've never only eaten 10 rolls, even when it was only my appetizer.
On Labor Day, I went to a sushi place. The 110 lb girl I was with polished off a dozen and we had edamame as an appetizer. This is the same girl who I watch eat half an egg bagel and then say she is full... So 10 sushi rolls... Yeah...
-
^^^ in that case, not sure why that guy is going to video him eating 10 rolls

Is a roll considered the 6-8 half dollar sized pieces? Never eaten sushi crew
Is a roll considered the 6-8 half dollar sized pieces? Never eaten sushi crew
i've always considered a roll 8 pieces and thickness is about thumb to middle finger. A maki roll about the thickness of a quarter(seaweed wrapped rice with a small piece of fish in the middle).

That would make more sense, but can you really get 8 pieces for $2.50? If so I need to find some of these places, but I guess that does make sense as a half dozen are usually $6-10. I dunno about terminology. I just order them by the half dozen and get a bunch of them.

They are about ~$3.50 for a roll here (6-8 pieces)
-
damn barely get maki in my area for 3.50 a roll...and I only live around 45-50miles from san francisco! an average roll (like a rainbow, spider, dynamite, ichiban I guess they are kind of specialty rolls) here costs about 9-12$ but a maki roll does range about 3-5$
sorry large picture alert.
but the sushi on top is a california roll looks like and the smaller ones are maki rolls, I wander if thats what he's getting for 2.50?

This. Don't think I've ever gotten full off sushi
-
i get rolls with raw fish in them - not fake sushi rolls like california/boston/eastern etc that doesn't have raw fish - except i love the futo maki roll lol love pickled stuff
anyway it's 6 pieces for $2.50. if some of you are in the NYC area... maybe not manhattan but in the outer boroughs, i'll recommend a few
also, the AYCE places, they have more rice to meat ratio whereas the half off places i go to is the other way around. if i was paying more for rice rather than the meat inside, i would never go back to that place. the only reason why i keep going to the AYCE places is because they have a lot of other things (restaurants like Ichi Umi, Makkoli, Minado's etc). compare the photo below with the photo above
lastly, cut me some slack guys lol i've only been on the forum for a year now so i didnt know how big of eaters bb.com-ers are when it came to sushi haha

Well aware of this, but if I plunk down money to go out to eat, I'd like to be able to leave the table satisfied. This does not happen with sushi unless I do AYCE. I just don't find it to be a very filling food.

lol yeah i wouldnt eat at a place like that either, unless it was like part of a bento box or something then its ok imo. But unfortunately alot of sushi places here in cali (in my area) pass that off as sushi. it was honestly the only pic that i could find that had some of the smaller maki rolls with a larger roll next to it for a size comparison. now you mention it, looks like a philidelphia roll (atleast here in cali). i'm not really a sushi expert by anymeans but generally in my area people consider rolls like this the norm (pic taken from a local place yelp page) and these run roughly 10$ ish

So I got a call from one of the challenges I've done here and they are having an event called champion of the champions
They are getting the 11 people (out of over 1000 - awesome success rate right?) to come back and compete against each other in a new harder challenge (they haven't stated what exactly yet). There's some Aprilla scooter as a prize too
Here's a random photo of some people trying the original challenge
