Stonie's video from the World Gyoza Eating Championship.
Am I the only one who hates the announcers? They are always way too hyped and just yell annoying **** the whole time.
I hate the announcers for most competitions. Ever seen any MLG (Major League Gaming)? Those guys freak out over the littlest things and constantly babble to fill silence.
Side note: what is that blue stuff Stonie is chugging? Is that Powerade?

Powerade Zero
uses it in every competition.

Huh. I guess it stops him from having to deal with the monotone taste of a food, but at the same time it seems like you'd just be switching one overbearing flavor for another unless he was alternating between that and water. It's obviously working for him though.

Naader Reda and I look to be attempting a Thanksgiving Feast at Buca Di Beppo in Carlsbad, CA the week of Thanksgiving. Exact day TBD as of now. Owner loves the idea of 2 guys (who look nothing like competitive eaters) coming in to try and eat a 6 person themed family meal in 90 minutes or less. If we finish will get it for $25 each vs $50 each. He may even waive it if regional manager gives final OK on how they use the event......our own fun or as a marketing tool for their own promotions. Should be fun and delicious either way!

"Backing out" = Stating that the challenge wouldn't be done.
I did just have two of the hardest weeks of the past couple of years of my life.
Getting hit by a car and becoming practically immobilized for a few days.. complicates things?
It's going to be done, not really sure when at this moment. I'm actually contemplating doing an actual challenge at a restaurant near me FIRST, mainly because my last one was so long ago and I want to see how much I can take down in a sitting (in terms of lbs).
The other issue is that I'm going to be doing it on a weekend when my girlfriend is home, so that she can film and help me prep. Which isn't until next weekend.
He is right man.. It was probably 3 weeks ago or so that you said you were going to do it man!
Eaten at 4 Buca's nationwide before and yes, always family style servings.....even the BUCA small is meant for 2-3 adults. The manager said the Turkey Day Feast is meant to serve 1 generous portions for 6 adults. 3 entree items and 4 side items. all items are fixed for the feats so we dont pick but from the listing.....i wont be dissapointed!

Nikki Rottens “ Ultimate Rotten Burger” Challenge!
The Location:
Nikky Rottens "Bar and Burger Joint" - Rancho San Diego, CA
The Challenge:
You have one hour to clean your plate. If you finish in 30 minutes, we’ll buy it for you! This friggin’ burger weighs in at 2 ½ pounds leaving grown men crying for mercy! 2lbs of Brandt beef, American Cheese, Lettuce, tomato, onion AND Rotten Sauce on a custom super-sized bun with fries on the side (1.5 lbs). No substitutions! Don’t even ask!
Thoughts:
So.. Tonight I decided to attempt the “baddest” burger challenge in San Diego (and the biggest). This was my official “coming out of retirement” food challenge. This was my FIRST ever “burger challenge”.. and after how tonight went, it certainly won’t be my last! I woke up this morning, and after some researching.. figured I’d go about this burger challenge. This challenge has been on my radar ever since the day after my last challenge (the 35 pancake IHOP challenge), so I figured I’d do it today.
The waiter told me that he had never seen anyone actually finish the burger before, but the manager personally told me that the record time was “22 minutes and 30 seconds”. So, after hearing that.. my desire to simply beat the 30 minute time limit and get the meal free.. turned into wanting to beat the all time record. I decided to change my technique for this one and I went STRAIGHT for the protein.. the 2.5lb patty. It was honestly delicious and perfect temeperature.. (I made the mistake of not letting the 12 lb sandwich I attempted not cool off before eating it and it filled me up from the steam I got the meat down relatively quickly, and then went straight for the bun! The hostess told me that the bun was literally like “eating an entire load of bread”, and from the size.. it was actually bigger than my entire head. Quite honestly, the top was like hell.. it was buttered/toasted.. and went down hard, the bottom was easy (as it was soggy).
Next were the fries.. the sweet potato fries were absolutely delicious. I wouldn’t have been able to get through it (well, I would’ve but not like I did.) without the syrup, ranch, and amazing BBQ sauce that they had on hand. I decided to eat those, (and the rest of the bun) last. The veggies (tomatoes, lettuce, and pickle) were randomly eaten.
Overall, this was probably my most enjoyable challenge I’ve ever done. I’ve always wanted to do this, and had heard great things about it. I was ORGINALLY going to do simply a 2lb burger challenge today.. but decided to go for the biggest, and baddest in San Diego. And after taking down that entire thing (4+lbs worth.. the 2.5lb patty + the bun + the 1.5lb fries) I’m VERY confident that I’ll be making my way back into doing eating challenges again! I can’t wait for my next one!

Nice man! Unfortunately these kind of challenges do not exist in my country! Looking forward to see the 10k "clean" food challenge. I'm going to do it next summer (don't ask why, unfortunately I need to wait until I go back home) but with no food restrictions. I've tried to make a list of foods just for fun and it's actually harder than it seems. I think there's high chances that I'll fail but I wanna be the first female to do it (I've seen max chewing, tim thebodeau and a few more dudes on youtube but no females whatsoever). Ah, and good job with your cut. I'm following you on IG and you're doing great! :)
-
Damn, solid completion; burger looks pretty good too!
-
I have done 2 burger challenges and will do more.
Both times my burger was fantastic
Fries were fantstic
and find them not very hard at all. Fries go down in a sinch.
bout time you hit a burger challenge. Easy one to get back on track there.

Looks like you ran out of gas there towards the end. Burger always goes down fast (both of mine were like 5 minutes like yours) Both of my buns (bottom was soft due to the grease of the burger) and top a bit harder, so i dunked mine in water and worked easy. Try rolling the fries up into a ball (Randy Santel does this) and Stonie does too with his challenges and just throw them in your mouth chew a few times and use the water to push them down. Should not need much chewing to get them down for the speed challenges and beating records/times.
But for real.. did one of your friends order a grilled cheese? LOL
Or maybe i heard it wrong.

Actually quite surprised that I found it because it's unlisted on the net, I did some searching this morning lol.
It's going to be cool because it's one that you get to rename if you beat it (only one guy has beat it, out of a couple hundred..trying. Supposedly a couple have been competitive eaters)

Erik,
Outside of the Moo Time Creamery Challenge as we spoke of their is actually one more challenge we could do around me I have not done yet. OB Noodle House in Ocean Beach. The Pho 20 Challenge. 1.5lbs noodle, 1lb meat, broth and a pint of beer in 42 minutes. Not that hard compared to other challenges but my catch has always been the beer! I hate beer with a passion and always have. Mine as well drink cold battery acid IMO. You also have to begin eating as soon as its plated in front of you while its piping hot. No ice or water can be added to the bowel either. Johnnie Excel did it in 2000 with time to spare but he said in his video he scalded his mouth really bad within minutes of starting..............to me that is not 100% worth a free meal, t-shirt and name on a wall to have my mouth burnt to hell for days after.
Here is an idea.......we do that then take our burnt as hell mouth and cool it off with Moo Time right after? Boom!
Guahan still on my radar to. Just gotta find the time to make the trip on a weekend.

Would like to do the OB challenge, but I hate beer as well. I might do that one when I run out of challenges to do in SD. For now, I'm thinking that guahan is my next one (Next weekend most likely) (the 6lbs of fried rice and 6 eggs sounds awesome), and then my new found "unlisted challenge" after that. Would really like to see if I can get something named after myself. lol
And it's awesome because little to no-one knows about it.

Eatfeats is and has been outdated for SD for a year or more now. I went through every SoCal location from those I had done or checked on to send off to Randy Santel for his new and updated site FoodChallenges.com and he now has about 90% of them still active at present listed. He has a much more updated and revised listing of food challenges by city and zip then EatFeats does.
Eatfeats is better in one area only......they do good at listing upcoming 1 time food contests in the area.

I like how we think alike in this regard......23 of my challenge were formal, those designed and promoted by the venue, not me. however i have a few of my own put on at my own suggestion....see below...
stacked burger tower challenge (stacked fashion valley)
kamikazee mega roll challenge (K7 sushi joint downtown) under new management, likely defunct)
cafe 222 griddle gobbler challenge (cafe 222 downtown)
uncle biff's ca killer cookies milk n cookie challenge (uncle biff's of hillcrest)
lefty's chicago pizzeria gold coast challenge (leftys of mission hills)
amigo spot eggsecutioner challenge (now made official) amigo spot mission valley
hob nob hill cafe (replica challenge of batter up pancakes grand slam challenge in fresno) bankers hill
i cant boast any of these as true "wins" since no bar has been set other then to finish alone period. i set my own limit with management which was always 30-45 minute range. i mine as well enjoy the food vs inhale it like a pig.
cant hurt to ask these guys if you can try it as well?
i did these at these locations as i already had a crazy love for their foods as is so why not just ask and see if they would go for it......they did!

What an AWESOME burger! After my last challenge at Nicky Rottens I KNEW I had to have another burger challenge. I was driving by this place and thought “Hey, why not?” , so I went in and DEMOLISHED this one and ended up SETTING THE NEW RECORD @ 10 minutes and 42 seconds! (which is when my girlfriend stopped out timer. I didn’t feel like this one was anything substantial at all, honestly.. I think I could’ve taken down two of the suckers. I was very surprised at how relaxed and non-chalont the entire staff was as I took this challenge, it was honestly a little bit un settling. I went in and stated that I wanted to do it, and my server simply brought it out (a bit rude), set the timer to 30 minutes to count down.. and I started. Only a few people came over to observe.
As I came down to the end, the manager came over and looked absolutely SHOCKED as the timer only read ~9 minutes. The sweet potato fries were amazing here, but honestly the best part of the burger was the bacon on the inside! The patties were cooked perfectly, but the fried egg was a bit off putting.
Again, this wasn’t really anything substantial.. My NEXT few challenges will be great! And I look forward to them!

Sp Fries FTW
the more you do burger challenges the easier they get IMO
2lbs is a walk in the park, Kudos brother.

^ Definitely agree on the sweet potato fries.
From now on I'll be asking for them > normal fries. (Unless home fries are an option).
It was honestly a bit upsetting, after I took it down I contemplated asking for another one. Would've been cool to down two. I was hungry an hour or so later, downed 1.2kcals before I went to sleep. lol
It's a bit unsettling to see/find out that a food challenge probably worth 5kcals isnt enough to fill me up. Oh well, lol.
