I'm curious what the effect on health is doing so many challenges like that back to back might bring. I mean from a physical stand point- stomach taking so much volume, digestive system having to cope with all of it, massive carb loads, ect.... gotta be hard on the system.
I couldnt imagine it would be good on a system look at randy santel before he was doing challenges IE the sparta episode...vs now....he doesnt look real healthy. wouldnt with your stomach expanding out start to push other organs aside probably putting stress on them.
most people dont do 1-2 challenges everyday
more like 1-2x a week max, look at many top MLE Eaters, you dont see them doing it everyday, its more of a weekly thing
Randy has been going to the extreme. Not giving your body time to restore after challenges will catch up (hence his loss) if randy came in fresh after a few days off a challenge he probably would of smoked it. If you look back at some of his previous challenges especially sweets ones, he conquered the malt milkshake one which woudl be harder. he has done some ice cream ones that were greater in volume with ease. Doing multiple back to back to back will leave you backed up and harder to finish. Hes on a roll and doing more than most people would.
Bingo
Normally randy takes down massive challenges. I know for a fact that he could've done this one... "fresh".

Alright so props to all you guys out there who can down serious amounts of food. This was a living h*ll, I have never been in so much pain in my life. I had ~1/4 pound of food left at the one hour mark. I would have been able to finish with 10 more minutes, but unfortunately I came up short. I will upload more shots of how much was left, etc. once I get them off my other camera. These are just form my iphone!

I had a little bit of burger and maybe a third of the fries, which would have gone down very easy because they were so good (I was saving them for the end). The bun is what ended up getting to me. It was soft & hot to begin with but 30-40 minutes in & it became very hard so I resorted to the water method and it actually helped a ton. I used a sweet barbecue sauce also that helped me out a good bit. Lastly, the veggies were not as pleasant as I thought they would be either, especially since I hate tomatoes. This also became even worse when they were cold.. The final picture is ~18 minutes in just for FYI.. Nonetheless, it was a fun experience!

God I miss the Eating Challenge scene! Seeing and hearing about all these challenges you guys do or highlight makes me realize how much of a fan I really have become after my 1 year stint as a participant on nothing more then a $500 bet I made with 5 friends to try and do 23 formal challenges in SD county in 1 years time without losing 1 of them.
Now with regular photo-shoots taking place each month it just does not lend well to doing eating challenges obviously. However I am now eating around 5300 kcals a day on lift days and 4000 on rest days based on my coaches discussions with me and my recent weight flux.
Mind you I teach 3 fitness classes a day, lead 2 hours hikes on Saturdays and train 5 days a week, plus....I have mild clinical hyperthyroidism and a purely ecto like tendency for weight loss without proper food intake.
And no this is not a gift or perk.....its more often a curse I promise you! Just a but extra cardio over the norm and I drop weight, just a 1-2 missed meals a week and I drop weight. Going out to sea for work with my command almost always = 2-3lb lost a week or more. Curse I tell ya!
-
^ Looks like you need to start doing the "randy santel approach" to challenges, once you stop those photo shoots.
1-2 challenges per day would be one way to help the frustration over lack of weight gain, Josh.

Final Thoughts:
My first EVER sushi challenge... DEMOLISHED!
I had 15 minutes to attempt to take down Sushi Deli and Dessert’s “Monster Challenge Roll”
This thing was LOADED up with shrimp, crab, avocado, A TON of cream cheese, salmon, and more rice than you can even imagine. This challenge was equivalent to around EIGHT fully loaded sushi rolls and was up to FOUR POUNDS of sushi! The individual pieces of the monster roll were HUGE and were as big as my entire hand. I definitely knew that it was going to be a challenge to take down the entire thing in a set time limit..
But I ended surprising the HELL out of myself when I FLEW through this thing in 5:50!. I WAS EVEN SURPRISED AT MYSELF! Considering that I am NOT a speed eater, and have never really enjoyed speed eating this was certainly something that astounded me. The roll itself tasted AMAZING, the cream cheese and the salmon were KILLER on every level possible.. and the spicy mayo on top.. SEALED THE DEAL! I was able to put the monster down, get the entire meal free (who DOESN’T like free sushi?) and get my name up on the wall of fame! The first ever winner at the location!
For my first sushi challenge, I can definitely say I’m proud of what I accomplished.
Tonight marks my TENTH win for “Restaurant Challenges” around San Diego! (STAY TUNED FOR MORE!)

Then do a volume based one? Speed eating isn't the only form of competitive eating.
But to each their own!
-
Well... there is one challenge near me I actually would like to try; may do so in a few weeks perhaps. Actually think I could beat this time, nothing too big and all foods I really enjoy (pancakes are great, along with eggs and meat).

Don't count on beating his time.. but definitely think you have a chance! (provided that you handle starches well)
Looks EASILY doable.

I've been debating about trying this challenge as well, since I'm an hr or so away I was thinking of using the 100$ and doing a total random act of kindness and finding some active military/police/firefighters or some old couple and buying their breakfast for them, if I could finish it. (if you do this challenge during the end of the year time you can get the pumpkin spice pancakes)
leatherby's has an ice cream challenge, not sure if you knew about that.
I actually attempted the el jefe burrito place in natomas though 25$ for a monsterous burrito not to bad...although its just a free meal if you finish.
have you tried any other challenges in our area?
-
Nope, never done a challenge; I like watching/following competitive eating because I find it interesting but actually doing challenges isn't really my thing. Just thought that one may be a fun thing to go for especially since it is close, still not sure if I really want to or not though.

I've only tried the one challenge, but I do find it interesting to watch. It's definitely worth trying atleast once just for the heck of it, most cases you'd only be out 20-40$ to stuff yourself and even if you dont finish you have left overs :) (even though since the burrito challenge I've not had ANY desire to have mexican food since thats why I'm afraid to do the leatherby's challenge)

That's why most top eaters are not obese, think Kobayashi, and Stonie for great examples of that.
