being discussed right now...
i know which way i am arguing for...
Interesting dilemma:
On one hand:
There's strong correlation between forum activity/participation/membership and annual gross earnings. In fact with the growth of the various forums and memberships tripling, we've also seen nearly triple the revenue from $46.9 million in 2005 to what we see today approaching (if not surpassed) $150 million.
Therefore, to recognize the trend and to continue and encourage it's influence on the end result financial statements, we ought to promote participation along a multitude of channels and behaviors. This of course is best done by keeping rules, regulations and restrictions to a minimum, since people participation is generated via a desire to express. Placing a judgement on the expression or activity can be a mistake.
On the other hand:
Links that promote competitor sites (usually not by intention) or reflect negatively on the community in general can hurt participation or attract buying units to find other deals when ready to purchase, or lose the impulse buyers.
By recognizing the many steps that ultimately drives revenue and contrasting it with what has possibilities of disturbing it, I think it becomes obvious that rules, regulations and infractions (though needed) have a far greater possibility of negatively impacting revenue, if used in excess.
My opinion?
Growth of nearly 200% every 3 years is not a result of limited expression or pampering of the hurt feelings.

Much better. No direct links at all would needlessly limit some good information being passed around.
It would also probably be an enforcement nightmare.

A few times I've made some orders really early in the morning one day, and would get them in the afternoon the next day. BB.com shipping is pretty sweetballsackbro.

How did this cyclone go? Is it over, was it bad? All i heard was, that it's category 5, maybe worst in Australia's history, but nothing on the news today. I'd really like to know..
Same with the US, ice and snow everywhere, and that's it.
Of course, there's news about who is doing Lindsey Lohan, or some Kardashians

I heard it started as cat5, got up to 181mph winds, then eventually they down-sized it to cat4 and then cat3, but are still telling people to be very cautious, for obv reasons.
Glad to see Dom is still able to rant it up.
Now, about that ozzybob...

Cat 3/4 is still something to worry about.
Cat 1 is just a thunderstorm. Cat 2, ehh... you might have to worry about branches falling on your car or your shingles being ripped off.

I don't see how the link rule affects me one iota.

posting links to outside sites is definitely as bad as continuing to host a section of the site which encouraged a former member to kill himself
i am glad to see these well thought out changes to the site

a few years ago, someone in the misc was talking about contemplating suicide. The rest of the misc proceeded to encourage him. He eventually did.
You can google suicide, misc, bb.com or something along those lines and find articles about it.

Thanks, i actually did.
Unbelievable, it was live on cam...
I post links all the time without even thinking about it. That rule would have sent me to Bansville Tennessee.
Same here.
But how is this rule going to be enforced:
"Do not participate in anything against the rules or quote posts against the rules- Do not involve yourself in any form of discussion that violates forum rules. This includes any threads or quoting any post that violates rules. If you participate in neg trains, raids, PM request threads, rep trading threads you will be considered in violation of the rules as much as the user who posted the thread or the offending content."
Seems like it would be awfully easy to post in some thread legitimately, only to have subsequent posts/posters violate the rules.
(Like when therorschach starts a rant and then Ctrainer posts her noodz).
Thanks, i actually did.
Unbelievable, it was live on cam...
Remember that there are literally millions of people registered with this immensely popular site, and that population is heavily weighted towards teens.
Considering that every year, probably hundreds, maybe thousands of kids commit suicide every year, and only one on this site.

There's always a big uproar when the powers that be change "the rules" here, and then a few days later everyone has already forgotten about it.
In other words, who cares.

This is Anderson Cooper we're talking about. Do we need to go any further? But not as bad as Keith Olbermann on that other network...

Unfortunately for you, being the 1,526th post in a thread is a bannable offense.
-
In the end, most of it still comes down to a mod's judgement. So if we stay in our usual sections, managed by the usual mods, I doubt we'll have too much of an issue.
Just sucks when the wayward mod decides to venture in because they are bored.

I just think the people like to try and cause problems about it and get attention. Pisses me off cause 90% of the threads at that certain time are about the same damn thing.
