IWM looking monstrous into FOMC week here
I sold out of my other half of GLD puts at 1.40. IDK why I did it tbh, looks like it's due for a bounce here but I just remembered the Fed is supposed to hike rates on Wednesday...... Fuk.
can't believe people actually bought INTO the etf hype run-up
my god, idk if i should even feel sorry.
What do you mean the ETF hype run up?
Yes, I've read that too, the argument that indexing creates more opportunities for value investing etc. It makes sense.
ETFs are incredibly useful when you have entire sectors hit, and can't be sure who the winners and losers are going to be. Great way to diversify our risk - provided the etf company doesn't go tits up :D
ETF's are useful in many ways. IMO the best way is because it creates a mechanical trading strategy that is transparent and cheap to execute. There are more and more creative ETF's coming online every month. Yes some get closed but that's not a big deal. It's announced ahead of time to allow you out before any forgotten funds are liquidated but even then you get your money back on the final day of trading.
Fund manager days are numbered, unless you're an activist hedge fund manager.
What are your thoughts on airline stocks?
ALNPY?

Price ran up because people were looking into creating a Bitcoin-based ETF. It went through some sort of clearing process, and people bought into the hype.
Think the crash was started from the news that it was denied lmao
Thats what I think the cliffs are on Bitcoin is anyway.

snap haters short away. first big bet ive seen here on options
Looking at a 15 min chart of Snap, there seems to have been a head and shoulder pattern which played out nearly to the penny. Will watch to see if it makes new lows before shorting though.

Pros/cons of that?
Mobileye...
Pros/cons of that?
I don't see any pros to buying a foreign airline on the OTC.
The cons are that it's not under the same US regulation to the SEC that a none OTC stock would have to adhear to so expect to see more N/A's in the 10K/Q's and or the other reporting that you might see. Also foreign company's shares when guised as ADR's don't always hold the same value. A share of ADR may not be the same as actually owning 1 share. Last it's an airline. There is usually more risk involved in airlines because they have little to gain and a LOT to lose on black swan events. It's like playing double zero roulette when you could just play single zero. Why would you take the added risk?
Initiated a modest position in DSW. Has a pretty safe dividend of near 4%, and they've sensibly expanded. Every time I go to one it's a mad house. With the exception of a blazer I wear at bars when I know there's a 50/50 chance I'm going to puke, I don't own a suit under $600, but I rock $60 shoes from DSW all day. If you have sensible style, very few people can differentiate a quality $60 shoe from a $300 shoe.
I don't think it faces much of a threat from Amazon. And it's consistent with the consumer move away from traditional malls to stores like TJ Maxx.
Also, on Target, this isn't a 2 week hold and it also isn't something you should put all your money into, my position is about 1.5% of my overall portfolio. A solid investment strategy is to diversify a decent amount of your portfolio into stocks that are highly unlikely to go down significantly, have a large protected dividend, and reasonable upside. Is it likely Target falls another 20%? Fck no, is it reasonable that it could appreciate 10-20% over the next year and collect a fat dividend? Yes. Not catching the exact bottom isn't something to cry about, you have to have some flex in this game.
Also, while target has a very loyal customer base, this isn't a stock I'd hold for more than 18 months with the Amazon threat.
What the hell is going on w DSW.
It's like they have a crystal ball and know the earnings will be crap.
fuk it. bought some dsw.
Looks like a good deal after the dip today.
Hope it doesn't fall 15% tomorrow after earnings.

Can you give me a brief synopsis on what this is? What it tells?
I know red is sell, green is buy; but whats the importance of the chart?
I was going to say AMZN will take away some of TGT's overall sales for years to come indefinitely and that's something which makes me wanna stay away from TGT, especially because retail is something I don't really mess with much at all given all the variables that come with retail only stocks. AMZN is the only "retail" stock that I own at the moment and I don't really even consider them retail because they have their hands in everything so they are more of a blue chip stock right??? Or am I wrong? Lol, honestly I dunno what catagory it falls under, all I know is AMZN is king indefinitely and its going to mess with all other retailers for years to come. I wouldn't be surprised if malls start closing down in the future.
With that said I just took a look at TGT and the chart. The buy point right now @ 55ish seems like a solid entry, given the 52 week range of 54.41 - 84.14 AND especially because of 4.36% dividend, which it looks like just got raised? That's a helluva dividend right there and I'm all about dividends, especially since they're paying quarterly.
So....I agree that looks like a pretty good play. Keep us updated if you get in on that. Looks like now is a good time cuz you'll get the 2nd to next dividend then hold till january ish maybe after xmas sales are over??
I was at target the other day and its still always crowded so doesn't look like too much of a shot in the dark to me
Just don't forget with retail a lot of bad sh*t can happen. Remember the hundreds of thousands of costumer credit cards that got stolen from target when their system was hacked? I think I can even see the huge dip on the chart right now.
I absolutely agree with everything above. I would not want to be a long term holder of TGT with the unstoppable force of Amazon on their back. They have adjusted, they let go about 10% of their upper management workforce this past year, but I don't see them growing sales, just treading water. But from an expected value play, in a year will Target likely be higher? I think so. Will probably sell the day it switches to the long term capital gains tax rate.

No, it has to settle before the ex date. If it settles on or after, you will not get the dividend.

Best way to lose money investing is trying to catch a falling knife. It's basically impossible to call bottoms and when the market has any type of pullback UA will see 12-13. Retail is dead and the last place you want to be.

Thanks brah will take your advice. Have a negative portfolio from making bad decisions and just jumping into things

Ehh if you think of it that way you can only invest when companies have already started progressing up. Perhaps you have a legit strategy that doing so works, but the rest of us typically scale into positions. I don't think scaling into a position when you know there is more downside possible short term is a horrendous idea. You never know where the bottom is.
