Lol I went to the electronics area in my country and all the shops that had 3070 available had it priced at around $1,100 now. The 2070S that was $400 was nowhere to be found. Lots of shops won't even sell individual GPUs anymore, they only sell complete setups. I saw a 2080 ti that was $1,400. fuk this ****.
I just bought an FF7 Remake for my PS4 instead to kill time while waiting for prices to normalize or I might just save my money and order as soon as the 40 series gets released. Crazy fukking times. I actually feel lucky to have a PC right now with a 1060 Gaming X.

I was in the same boat as OP except I wanted 4k gaming, and after weeks of deliberation I just went with the 1440p monitor (still havent gotten a gpu yet LOL). I couldnt justify the cost of the 144hz 4k monitors at this time. I think we still have at least 2 years before 144hz 4k gaming is a true reality. All the newest cards can barely hit 60fps consistently. If I were you op, id model your build around 1440 (even 144, 1080 doesnt need a 3070) at this day and time (go for those frames boyo) and buy a gpu accordingly and wait 2 years before going for that 4k capable card.
I think these supply shortages will probably stifle innovation as well. Whats nvidias or AMDs incentive to innovate when the chit they have on the market is sold out almost immediatly. They are making max profit on any POS they bring to market (or ghost bring to market).

I got a 240hz 1080p monitor for free lol so I'm not really motivated atm to upgrade my monitor, probably in the future yeah when my rig can actually fully utilize a 144hz 4k monitor then I'll get into it.
rn I just want to play CP2077 on the highest graphic settings before I finish the game. It actually ran well on my 1060 but on a mix of medium-high settings. There are a ton of games I want to experience with a better GPU, but the situation right now is crazy. Much worse than the etherium boom back in 2018. Hopefully the vaccines mean workers will now work on site and that'll help in production or something.

And it's a free PS PLUS title next month lool.
Honestly though OP, count yourself lucky not getting a gfx card. I was looking a 3080, but I'm glad I dont have one right now ..... Almost every big name game is getting delayed to next year due to covid and with shortages and what not, we can hold out for TI or Super variants to come when we do need to upgrade .... of course that also depends on how easy they will be to get eventually.

lulz I had no idea. Good thing I bought it on sale, around $30. Didn't wanna go home empty handed after half a day of searching for a damn rtx card which isn't overpriced.
Right, I forgot about the TI and Super variants. The 3060 cards that I saw earlier were still overpriced, but not as overpriced as the other cards, maybe because it's new. I didn't wanna get it though since it's performance is even lower than the 2070 Super. But it gives me hope that when the TI and Super variants come out, they won't be too overpriced.. at least at first.

get a 1660 and wait for the 30x0 super/ti line

1660 sell for 500+ right now, a 2070 non super sells for 1000ish, literally the gpu market is flipped upside down and ass backwards. a 2080ti averaging around 2k I was offered 1900 for mine but I said no because for 1 I wouldn't have a gpu to replace it with and I'm not desperate to sell lol

Intel announced a new "gamer" GPU coming out in Q3 im sure its trash tho.

Join nowinstocks discord. You can setup alerts for video cards and they have cpu alerts with ********. I just snagged a 5600x off Amazon a few days ago and it already came today for $299.
I snagged an rtx 3070 and 3080 as well so far too lol
https://www.nowinstock.net/news/discord-alerting-now-available-for-select-items/
Side note, my ryzen 2600 was bottlenecking my rtx 3070 hardcore. The 5600x woke it up.

Was able to find a 6800xt about $200 over retail. Im out of this BS GPU rat race thankfully. Scalpers are trash but time=money and I didnt want to spend weeks trying to find a card on BB or newegg only to get the sold out notice or in cart then sold out. Sometimes you have to make that decision to walk away from the project for now or spend the extra cash if it isnt worth your time scouring the internet for the card at msrp. With the price of crypto and the conitnuing supply issues I only see this getting worse for the foreseable future even when the next gens come out later this year or next year inventory will probably be the same for 4Qs or more.
Godspeed OP!
This is basically what it boils down to. The guys buying the best GPU every generation are NOT casual gamers lol.
But console people can't seem to understand that and always have to foam at the mouth about "bUt whY wHen mY Ps5 CosTS haLf WhaT JusT yOUR GpU dOes?!?!!!1111"
This goes both ways, which is why the console v pc argument is silly honestly.
Console users don't generally NEED the power that gaming rigs come with. The large majority of them just play for a few hours here and there and just want those hours to be visually enjoyable. 4k/60 and 4k/30 do that visuals part just fine and the cost burden fits the time dedication, typically.

Damn, happy for you man. I decided to just let go of the project for now and just save up for when the super and ti variants come, or when maybe if I spot an amd card for a reasonable price. This whole gpu prices craziness thing made me appreciate my 1060 so much more and made me realize I don't really need to rush getting a high end gpu anyway since I got a ton of backlog in games that I can play so well with my current gpu.

Glad I bought my prebuilt at the end of the year with the 3080 asus tuf. Card alone right now is going for $1800-$2000 on ebay just by itself

Yea, I paid scalper prices in November. I'm more happy than ever that I did. My card used is going for what I paid for it new. I'm ok with my decision.

Scalpers are azzholes but damn it was worth the upcharge for this monster. This thing is fukking huge, but its awesome. Runs at a cool 65c during heavy gameplay and haven't seen it go above 85c max hotspot. Maxes out all benches with no OC. My RX570 which I was able to sell for $400 on ebay to recoup the scalpers cost could barely run 75 frames at 1080 anymore although it was a work horse and that was max settings, the upgrade was well worth it I couldnt imagine waiting another year or 18 months until inventory catches up.

In your case I think that was actually not a bad deal since it was only over 200$. For the card I was aiming for it was over 400$ so I was like fuk no to that. If the 3070 prices only increased by 200$ I might actually still aim for that, but 400$ increase is crossing the line for me. Good thing I have a fuk ton of game backlogs so I dont really feel the need to rush buying a gpu right now.
mirin handsome lookin card btw
I just spot an MSI 3060 Gaming X at $680 and Im thinking of getting it. My experience with MSI's Gaming X cards is good, my 1060 Gaming X is cool and silent af, gaming doesn't go over 70C even without AC in a summer day and was even able to play Cyberpunk well at medium-high settings.

Agreed with this. I think RTX 40 / RX 7000 might be possible for 4k 144hz, especially if the GPU companies and the industry as a whole continues to push the DLSS / FidelityFX stuff. Otherwise maybe RTX 50 / RX 8000.
When I built my rig in sig a few months ago, I was so close to getting 4k 144hz, but realized even a 3090 can't handle 4k 144 FPS Ultra in modern AAA titles. Also the price difference between a 1440p 144hz and 4k 144hz was like $700 LOL. No thanks jeff. Will consider it 2 generations from now perhaps.

Yup I thought the same thing went with the 6800xt which should be able to continue to play 1440p games at 144+ for years to come. Very happy I made that choice maybe 4k for my next build in a few years we will see where the technology is.
