Your welcome Bud any time! Doing work right now and it shows. Definitely keep it up!

Thanks Spaz, you know I will!
Jealous of that PR!
Thanks Billy, you're moving some pretty good weight yourself so nothing to be jealous about!
Thanks rock. I really think you are going to see several of them coming in the next 3 weeks or so. Even though my contest prep is coming in full swing, I almost always notice a slight uptick in strength at the beginning of prep because my nutrition is more consistent and healthy. Add in the fact that I'm 4 days into a bottle of BSN's EvoTest and good things are bound to happen!
It's gonna be a nice ride, here to enjoy :D

Would like to make a shameless plug for my boy Billy who is currently prepping for his first time on the stage, doing Men's Physique. You can follow his log here:

It is both inspiring and refreshing to see such young people take to contest prep with such enthusiasm and discipline and I'm sure he is going to do well!
Also, if anyone else is interested in contest prep coaching, feel free to PM me - as I have capacity to take on a few more clients while I'm in turn prepping for my big show in November.

Going to do work !

After 2 weeks of performing some "speed work" on my hypertrophy days, I think I'm going to ditch it. For squats especially, it seems to be murder on my knees and I'd much rather just perform some high rep sets with more weight. I'm not denying the potential value in performing speed work, but I need my knees to not bother me the rest of the week so I can get in all my cardio.
I spent 2 hours tonight helping a friend of mine shovel and wheel barrow 5 tons of stone around to her back yard where she is installing a 10x10 patio. We leveled it out and tamped it as best as we could. I sweat through 3 shirts easily and consider that my cardio for the day. Exhausted now and hope I'm not too sore to hit chest/arms tomorrow night.
Stay tuned!
-
sometimes the nontraditional workouts are what put the hurt on me the most. Hope all those gravel carries don't leave you too sore

Woke up today a bit stiff and sore, but as the day has wore on, I feel just dandy! One thing I love about bodybuilding is that it helps condition you for those physical tasks in your life that would leave the majority of folks sore and complaining for days. Me on the otherhand, I'll be in the gym after work blasting away at my chest and arms. Shooting to handle the 80s for 3 sets of 10 on incline DB bench today. Focused like a laser beam baby!

Went for a run over lunch today. Wanted to test out my foot and see how it would hold up. Not only did my foot feel fine, but I wound up busting out a PR as far as my pace goes!
You can see the details of the route below, but basically I ran 2.8 miles in 21:38 for a 7:43 pace! Trying to recover now so I have full energy for my workout later. Just polished off a handful of almonds, some brown rice and baked chicken breast. Mmmmmm.

Man you have too much energy!
Man you have too much energy!
True that I was feeling quite energetic over lunch. I found a sample back of Ignite, a fat burner so popped a couple pills 15 mins before I headed out. The key to success though is putting in these kinds of efforts when you are low on energy, feel like crap and wanna just veg. This will be more of the case as I get leaner and closer to the show...

Well tonight's workout, while not bad (bumped up weight on a couple of exercises), could have been alot better. I would be lying if I didn't say the 3 mile run I did over lunch didn't leave me a bit on the tired side. Ran 2.8 miles at a 7:43 pace which was a new PR for me. Not bad for a chunky bodybuilder, eh?
Anywho, to make up for it I included a couple videos, one is the 2nd set of Inclide DB Bench Presses and the other is my 2nd set of EZ Bar curls. I'm very excited for Saturday, which is my scheduled day to deadlift and I'll be well into my tub of EvoTest. Hoping to pull big, even though I'm only deadlifting once every two weeks right now.
Tomorrow is an off day and very much in need. Feeling beat up and run down. Maybe some light cardio if I feel up to it.

Taking the day off. Incredibly achy this morning so it's a good thing :)

After all the stuff you did the last 2 days I am not surprised you are achy :)

Yeah, me either. My hands are really sore from the stone hauling and my legs are a bit sore from that run yesterday (first in about 3 weeks).
Tomorrow though I'm bringing 100% INTENSITY for my heavy upper body day. Doubt I will have any PRs, but the weights will be going up, I can guarantee that!

Do you use BCAAs at all? I was just curious because for me if I have that much going on they seem to help in both recovery and endurance

Yes, I love my BCAAs. I'm currently finishing up a tub of RecoverPro by AI Sports, just a basic BCAA blend with no other actives added. Tastes awesome too. I'm a big fan of Purple Wraath though, primarily because of the Beta Alanine, which I really find beneficial. After my RecoverPro runs out I have a couple tubs of bb.com brand aminos so am going to give them a shot.
I'm also taking MassPort as a post-workout which has also seemed to help keep recovery fairly decent. I remember the last time I tried to do the PHAT routine, which I'm following now, the first 2 weeks were hell and I hurt so bad. This time around, I've been a little sore, but nothing major as DOMs were minimal at best.
Keep in mind when I say I'm achy and sore, it's not like I'm incapacitated or in agony. I can still get up and run 3 miles today if I wanted to.
I will post up my current supplement stack, since it has changed a bit since the outset of this log....
-
Current Supplementation
Here's a run down of all the goodies I'm taking....
Animal PAK (only a few paks left, then switching over to Optimen)
Animal Flex
Cheap Supplements Fish Oil
RecoverPro
MassPort
EvoTest
Animal Rage/Cellucor C4 (bounce between these two for pre-workout)
White Blood V2 (except on leg days)
Smart Powders Strawberry Whey
Once my massPort runs out I will be adding in some Creapure creatine monohydrate to fill that void....
-
that looks like a solid stack except there is no Ergo in it  :D
I love BCAAs especially when I go from 531 to conditioning in a 1.5 hour time frame

Sorry beast, don't be mad :)
There will definitely be some Ergobolic in it again before you know it!
So I decided I couldn't NOT workout today so I went in to the gym intending to do some light cardio and abs. I did the following:
15 minutes elliptical - lvl 4
17 minutes treadmill - 3.7 mph, incline as high as 8
4 sets of swiss ball crunhes
3 sets of rope crunches
3 sets of ab crunch machine
4 sets of seated calf raises
4 sets of standing calf raises
As always, felt much better and upbeat afterwards. Then headed over to my parents house to pick up a 32" TV that weighed about 200 lbs (no lie). Had a friend of mine help carry it up the steps from the basement and home to my living room.
Tomorrow brings the HEAVY weights....get some!!!
-
[Weight:] 206.2 lbs
Up a bit from the day before. Think I'm finally rehydrated after working outside the other day for 2.5 hrs in the heat.
Took off work today to hang with my 2.5 year old son. Always so much fun and puts in perspective how unimportant bodybuilding is in the grand scheme...
Raring to go later this afternoon for my power upper body session. Weights will be a movin'!
-
for sure. I love hanging with the kids.

Hit up the township park for awhile, then off to Burger King where he had a BK Stacker and played in their playground for another 20-30 minutes. Needless to say he passed out on the car ride home and is napping. Means a little forum trolling before he wakes up, and then shipping him over to the in-law's for the night, while I go get my beast on at the gym.
Will be hitting heavy lower body, including some deads tomorrow morning, then I'm on child duty the rest of the weekend. I surprised my wife and her best friend with a weekend in AC, complete with massages and a night on the boardwalk. Kinda wish I was going now :)

I'll see you in the gym tonight Stan. I close up the place tonight and then re-open it tomorrow morning ... ugh. But at least I will be there so I'll get my two days of lifting in.

Good deal. I'll be in around 445 today, so may catch you at the end of my workout if you are starting your shift at 6. Will definitely see you in the early AM tomorrow as I'll be in for Power Lower body...
