i can't put it into words
if he wants to log himself cutting down to 119 pounds through crash dieting and stimulants then i guess more power to him
i just...
why?
just by the math if you are 142 pounds and your bodyfat is that high it means you have no muscle mass at all
he's a fat skeleton looking to get ripped for halloweentown spring break
its not just that
its the crash diet and the posts about being depressed and having no energy from crash dieting
its just entirely WTF

If I were him, I'd just hit the damn weights like a possessed bro. I agree with Drew, the last thing he needs to do is crash-diet away the little bit of muscle he has.

Out of curiosity, do you think there'd be a significant amount of muscle loss by doing a PSMF with ample protein (probably more than 1g/pound LBM to compensate for the seriously low number of incoming calories?) + ample weight training (say, 3-4x per week?) compared to a more "standard" diet where you are in a 500 calorie deficit with 1g protein per pound LBM and the same training? Obviously I imagine there will be more muscle loss, but that much more?
that kid would gain muscle on a moderate deficit

In his case, yes. 5'7" & 145 with about 25-30% BF = any loss of muscle is gonna be proportionally significant.
How anyone who saw his log and didn't speak up is beyond me.
...
This has occurred many times on these boards. Kids come on here because they want to learn, instead of just being kids. They don't want to be fat, and you know what that's great. Is he doing it the right way? No. At his age proper lifting, and just exercise in general would change his body.
To each their own I guess.
I was in his original log since the beginning trying to help him out...just saw his new one...this is bad news. I posted in there, hopefully he listens to some reason.....

one of the guys who posted is 134 pounds and on his second run of RFL
From what I understand about PSMFs is that it should ONLY be used in some extreme circumstances where fat loss is absolutely necessary (e.g. I need to make that weight class for <insert competetive sport here>). A lot of kids run around these forums asking what's the quickest way to lose weight and they'll hear 50 people say something like "you should just go on a 500 calorie deficit for ~1 lb/week" then someone mentions PSMF and they're like "PSMF? Sounds great!".
I agree with just about everything that's been said and don't have much to add. The only thing I'd throw in is that, if he's stayed on a PSMF for over three weeks (that seems to be the case; haven't read the whole thread), then he either has an iron will or is abusing the **** out of his EC stack. I tried it for a bit without the EC stack just to see if it was worthwhile, and I had trouble making it to any of the scheduled cheat meals or refeeds without binging on two litres of ice cream. It's like keto but for the really masochistic.

Starvation diets are pretty easy @ 20%+ IME
I did 6 weeks, 2 week break, then 12 days. Once you get into the swing of it, its actually not that bad. Now, I agree he doesnt have much muscle mass (at all) but he also seems to be aware that his choice isnt a popular one because in his log he says he doesnt care for comments regarding the choice to PSMF.
Heh, thankfully Lyle recommends adding a moderate amount non-starchy veggies to help move things along. PLUS, refeed day helps with volume and gives you a chance to get in some fiber (although not too much.) The 12 day cat 1 was a different story......
How do you poop on PSMF?
You don't.

<--- Guilty.
But, I don't tend to voice my opinion as much in someones journal unless they ask for it. Instead I asked questions and just wished him luck.
EDIT: And in hindsight I think I agree with you, I should have said something.

To be fair, most people don't listen to advice, good or otherwise.

My biggest concern when I saw that thread was "This dude is depressed. I hope people post in his log and give him some support". I think that was really far more concerning that what he does with his physique, but having said that I do agree with the overall consensus in this thread.
Just saw this, Was also aware of his old log IMO he went on abit of a FULK because he had a BMF, Don't get me wrong bmfs are good but they are -/+ 10% they are suppose to guide you not make you think you can eat like a horse because your burned 3000cal+ yesterday
You don't.
Yeah, because you're using all the nutrients you take in! (notsrs)
I usually wouldn't intervene, but if this guy is depressed, we need to seriously do something to help him...
IME, Alex?
huh? I R confused by question
huh? I R confused by question
I think he wants to know what it means; "In my experience".
There is nothing stopping any of us from occasionally popping in the teen forum and posting every now and then to get some teens' heads screwed on straight early on. Do what you already do all day long...direct them to the nutrition stickies ;)
a 5'7 119lb 18 year old...
is this real life? one inch shorter than me and damn near half my weight
Hopefully the kid is still within the range of help. The whole "nothing works but I still know what I'm doing" thing is so close minded, he's just looking for reasons to fail.
