wrist pain
Man i have done it now. My wrist hurts right in the middle on the top. I cant hardly move it. I can move my fingers fine but moving the wristis some real pain. But what is wierd is if i squeeze the sides of the wrist right where it pivits it makes the pain less. The whle top of the hand is fine it is just really painful on the top right where th wrist bends. But it is only a spot the size of a dime where you can push in and feel pain all the rest has no pain. Wierd huh?

what did you do to it?i was doing upright rows and something cracked.dr said i stretched a ligament.been healing for 6 months and going

I don't recommend upright rows from what I have read; it is an unnatural movement that can cause shoulder injury.

Wrist Pain antidote
Unfortunately, the bad news is that you will have to take some time off from doing any of the exercises that inflame the pain in your wrist. A lot of times we can work through the pain, but the reality of working through pain is that you are not going to experience a true and full recovery until the pain is completely gone. So, I recommend completing workouts that avoid pain to that area. It might even be a situation where you put any upper body movements on the back burner for now, and focus solely on lower trunk enhancement as well as cardio.
If the pain persists past two weeks, you may want to consider consulting a physician, as there may be a type of tear, or dislocation involved.
Last, if you are not taking any Glucosamine / Chondrotin Sulfate supplements, you may want to start. They have worked exellent for any joint pain that I have experienced in the past: Allow at least two weeks for results.

it sounds like a carpal sprain which can easily be set with some applied pressure from the top while someone gently shakes your hand. Takes 2-6 weeks thereafter to heal.
Ice and rest as previously advised is defintely recommended. In the future you need to be wary of form and perhaps substitute the suspected exercise.

In the gym, basically the only thing you can't go heavy on is pressing movements (chest/tris). For those guys, concentrate on squeezing/stretching the muscle and doing high-ish reps. I pretty much settled for incline machine press and light incline presses, really focusing on form and hitting the muscle. Somewhat slow elaborate movemetns. For triceps, I had to resort to one armed dumbbell extensions.
Also, absolutely zero heavy bicep work. I used curl 50s but after the injury resorted to 20 and 25-lb concentration curls for high reps... actually felt pretty good and now I think it's super stupid to go heavy on curls.
I had no problem going heavy on pulling movements or legs though.
But watch that you don't hurt your wrist putting plates on the bar... lol. Seriously, I put on plates like an old man now.
And make sure you always wrap your wrist in the gym.

In an attempt to not make another thread, I have got a similar problem. If I face my palms forward then rotate the wrist back so my palms are backwards I sometimes hear a loud clicking noise. Wrist pain, but it is when my left wrist is supinated. Therefore it does not bother me to do presses, only heavy curls. Heavy hammer curls are possible so when I need to do heavy curls I do these. The attached image I have circled where my wrist is swollen. Now I know you guys aren't doctors, but what kind of doctor would I see about this lol.

Whatever you do, don't do exercises that will aggravate the problem. Trust me, don't make the same mistake I made. At first, I couldn't do curls but could still do presses. I kept going heavy/intense and now I can't press more than a 40 lb dumbbell without immense pain.
Avoid ALL exercises that aggravate the wrist AT ANY DEGREE. Use a wrist wrap every time you go to the gym. Take it real easy.
BTW, heavy curls are what did it for my wrist

I injured my wrist few months back (December). I have the pain around the region in the red circle as that diagram. I'm using 2.5 lbs to stretch the ligament each day. If I press my wrist against something, the pain will be noticible. It's getter better each day as I stretch it but progress is slow. Guess 2 more months I should be fine.

i have a similer pain in both wrists that used to hurt when i pressed and when i did heavy curls. the pain was in the circled area in the previous post and also to a lesser degree in the rest of my wrist. It would continue to hurt and be very stiff the day after my workouts so much so that i could barely move them. I never got it checked out by a doctor and eventually it caused me to stop my workouts completely for almost 3 months. I ma just now starting up again and testing my wrists, im still hesitant to try any heavy presses and curls just because i dont want to reaggrivate whatever it is that was wrong. any ideas on what i might have done? or how i should continue?

The specialist you'd want to see is an orthopaedic doctor; they're sometimes listed under "sports medicine."

If your wrist pain is at the base of the thumb, you could have DeQuervain's or De Quervain's. I just responded to someone else on this and provided some links in this thread:

Well i didn't take time off but i think mine might have been a carpal sprain like was said before. Because i was at the gym doing dumbbell curls and something popped and it instantly felt better. It has been a few days and still no pain. Thanks for all the info guys! I didn't know so many people has wrist issues. Pretty common injury i see. Thanks again. Hope everyone gets better!

i have had the same problem with my wrist on my right hand the top of my wrist and if you squeeze both of the sides it cracks and feels better and then i crack it again later and so on and so on. ive had this been happening for the past 4 years or so for about a couple months each year. i think it might have something to do with hockey or lacrosse because this is when it usually hurts. ive never gone to the doctors for it. sometimes the pain is unbearable. it goes away and i forget about it...until it comes back again. if you find out what was wrong , please let me know. thanks and goodluck

came down on an awkward angle while doing side raises and I must have twisted it. I cannot curl/pull weight whatsoever. pressing movements are still possible though.

Solved for me. I had the top of wrist pain which I assumed was from the 100+ rounds of golf I play a year. Never could shake it even with time off. The pain was not from golf it was from the way I slept. I slept on my left side and my right hand would nest in under my left rib cage with the palm of my hand facing the rib cage. This would create a slight pull on my hand. I think the tension lasting 8+ hours caused my problem. I fixed it by conscienously balling my right hand into a fist when I sleep so it will not slip under my rib cage. I've been pain free now for 18 months.
