4 months of Insanity Max 30

Starting the year off I was pretty over weight. Roughly 185 @ 5' 8" and that wasn't mostly muscle. I was tired of simple physical tasks feeling more difficult and laboring than they should, so I decided to do something about it.

At February I finally broke the inertia and started lifting again. Then the gyms closed not long afterwards and so I decided to continue with a Beachbody subscription as that was better than nothing and weights were going out of stock. This was 3/23, so a little over 4 months ago. Once signed up, I settled on Insanity Max 30 as it didn't require equipment. Since late March I did on average 6 workouts a week, each one resulting in my body being drenched with sweat. After 1 month, I was already noticing rapid improvement but I thought it had to be my wishful thinking or water weight loss. About another month of rapid improvement I noticed clothes I haven't worn in years started fitting. At this point, they fit loosely. Didn't pay too much attention to eating - just didn't over eat. 1 carb, 1 protein and vegetable each meal. I stopped drinking alcohol completely.

As of now I'm 167 lbs which is only an 18 lb loss, but my energy levels feel vastly different. With my gym being open again I want to start eating and lifting heavy to add more muscle, but that to me has always been more difficult than losing.

Before picture was circa Nov 2018...I was even heavier than that before starting. I have to say though, this is the craziest amount of weight loss I have had in this amount of time! I did high school sports and was active during college so getting back in shape is nothing new to me.

I'm going to keep going. Guess I'll post progress here like I see others doing. Good way to keep myself honest and disciplined.

Great results, went to do Insanity Max myself (did Insanity years ago)... 5 minutes in and I was dying. Very quick reality check on your cardio fitness.

To do it for months you have to have beastly endurance.

Thanks. I ran cross country and wrestled in high school and I think what I learned most in those sports is pushing through pains. Athletically it's probably my best attribute. I still sneak in 5k's but it's been ungodly hot lately.

I can get about 8 minutes into the friday night fight workout before slowing down and im waterfall sweating by minute 15. That one is pretty rough because there are no breaks between sets and there are only 2 20 second water breaks. But I think they are designed so that even people who are in elite condition will struggle if they go their hardest for that 30 minutes, so no shame in struggling early I say.

Another week down...did an excessive amount of cardio this week.

Definitely see a slight cut from last week. Feel like my bottom abs are remotely starting to become visible. Perhaps for the first time in my life I can achieve the elusive 6 pack, lol.

Still going strong and averaging roughly 6 workouts a week. I didn't have a scale through all of this but had access to one this weekend, and to my surprise I'm 163 lbs. I was probably pushing 190 at the peak of my weight gain. In high school, I wrestled in the 150's, so this is pretty good.

I think I'm reaching a plateau with regards to fat loss and definitely want to focus in on more strength training. In general, I feel amazing. Just so much more bounce and mobility in everything I do. It helps while raising a 2 year old.

Before the turn of this year, I had difficulty buttoning these shorts I wear in these photos. Now, I'm having difficulty keeping them on. It's quite a radical change, and one that I feel motivated in sustaining. If anything, I'm feeling more motivated now than I was at the beginning.

Still going at it, though with a little bit of a set back. Since I was a teenager I suffered from what I think is SVT, which is a condition where your heart sort of jumps into a mode where it beats roughly twice as fast as it needs to for a short period of time. About a month ago I noticed it becoming more frequent, so I decided to see the doctor who referred me to a cardiologist. The cardiologist thinks it's likely SVT and a benign version of it. Though we are running tests to make sure it's not the bad kind, though with my age, health, and the fact that I notice no other side effects from these episodes, he is 99% certain it's benign SVT. I have to wear a heart monitor for a week and I just had a cardio ultrasound which I'm still waiting to hear back from.

In lieu of that I took about 8 days off, and have been back at it for the past 10 days. I make sure to get at least 7 hours of sleep, cut all the sugar free red bull out, and have no more than 3 cups of coffee a day. After making these changes, I have not had an episode of SVT since. The primary care told me to not workout until all is clear but I'm not going to wait that long, especially if the cardio is 98% certain it's benign.

Same workouts, though now sometimes I am doing back to back 3 mile runs followed immediately by a 30 minute insanity max workout. My calves have a tendency to spasm towards the end of that - I think I may need to introduce yoga or something.


weight: 166 w/ clothes and shoes, so roughly 164 without, which puts me at a 24.9 BMI.

those jeans in the 2nd photo were snug prior to my weight loss. Quite a difference. I cut about 2-3 inches off my waist.
