Chew your protein shake?
My buddy went to see one of those FL anti aging doctors, so he's getting deca and winstrol
and the doc asked him if he drinks protein shakes
the doc said
75% of digestion occurs in your mouth? something about the enzymes
and you should take your time sipping a protein drink so you can digest it all.
I've never heard this before.
opinions?

the shake is already in liquid form, the enzymes in the mouth help break down solids?

The Doc is probably referring to a carb breakdown enzyme that is secreted in the mouth. Amylase is an enzyme, secreted by a gland under the tongue that initializes the breakdown of starches before they hit the stomach where more amylase from the Pancreas finishes the job. Since a lot of protein shakes are also loaded with a few carbs the Doc's advise makes sense. Slow down and not chug your shakes, no mantter how horrid they taste...
Eating a high-carb meal very quickly will lead to stomach upset since if the Amylase hasnt had time to break things down into digestible/manageable chunks. That's why your mother always told you to chew every bite before swallowing. You're giving those enzymes time to do their catacyltic magic.

i bet that doctor is overweight and underexercised
digestive enzymes in the mouth are helpful in initiating the digestive process, but 75% seems really high, the bulk of course would occur in your stomach
