I currently do a PPL split, but I like the premise of 5/3/1 and I'm going to give it a shot.
The only thing is that it seems to be lacking in volume.. even the bodybuilder's template with a lot of assistance work only works each muscle group 1x a week at most
So, for anyone who's ever done 5/3/1, did you find it lacking in volume at all? Or am I being a typical newb and overthinking everything? Any insights? :)
It's slow progress, but by god does it work. You'll be putting up PR's every month of the year though. It's more like 2 x Upper and 2 x Lower. Add volume if you want, it doesn't really call for it though.
IMO: If you do the Boring But Big version, then you'll gain strength and size, but you'll gain strength slower than on a routine catered specifically to powerlifting, (possibly), and you'll gain size slower than on a routine catered for size. If you care equally about both then you could eventually give it a shot, but the lack of frequency for certain muscles can be a bit of a problem IMO.
