Onions on Keto Diet
i keep reading conflicting information on onions and keto.
some people say onions knock them out of ketosis and others say onions are alright.
does this just vary from person to person or is there a certain amount of onions that is too much?
thanks... i just want to know if i can have some sauteed onions with my ribeye :D

The majority say all root veggies: Beets, (sweet) potatoes, onions, tomatoes, carrots, etc. ARE NOT OK unless it's a carb up.

No, I guess you shouold be OK.

It depends on how big that half onion is and how many other carbs you had during the meal. Here is the nutritional info on onions. A little bit of onion is not going to hurt but a lot could.

just one time won't hurt. i just want to be safe in the long run.... i'll remember to not use onions in every dinner like i did before starting keto

I don't know about that... I like having a few carrots or whatever throughout the day. There's only like 6 carbs in a few good stalks that would accompy a meal. That's not really that big of a deal, is it?
No tomatos though. If I chew on one tomato (ripe roma tomatoes are good enough to be eaten like an apple, IMO), I will soon chew on its cousins.

Hun, that's cuz you're like 5"6 and sub 150 pounds with very little body fat. :)You could eat chocolate and all it would be is fuel to your already insanely flammable metabolism.
But for the average person, root veggies and tomatoes are a no-no.

Wow I loved reading this forum and learning new things. No tomatoes, thats sucks.I've been doing the steak and eggs for awhile but I've switched the toast and homefries for tomatoe slices.I guess That stops.I have still been loseing alright.226lbs and29% bf on Jan 1st,today was 203lbs and 23%bf.My carb ups suck though,I'm all about eating chocloate bars and prime rib dinners.whatever works!!

Onions are definitely a root vegetable.

Raw onions
Ok. I'm dumb I guess. I've been eating white onions like crazy since starting this diet two weeks ago. I thought we just couldn't eat cooked onions. Bummer. Sliced white onion, cucumber and course pepper on arugula is my fave with a fatty no carb dressing like Litehouse original blue cheese. So sad. This is going to be like a funeral of a close friend.

You can eat whatever the heck you want as long as it fits into your macro targets.

First of all, the real deal is to be at a constant calorie deficit so that we can lose weight on this keto diet. And another thing is that in keto diets you are allowed to eat under 50 grams of carbohydrates a day. So I don't think white onions or red onions really increase the amount of carbohydrates to your keto diet
Here is a link with the nutrition information about white onions and red onions:
5 ounces of onion only have 15 grams of carbohydrates and 60 calories. And 5 ounces of onion is a lot of onion

Onions are the best, you don't have to give them up.
"Compounds in onions have been reported with a range of health benefits, including anticancer properties, antiplatelet activity, antithrombotic activity, antiasthmatic activity, and antibiotic effects."
