This should answer your question :)

This is a good-sounding story, most often perpetrated by supplement companies.
That said, if you haven't yet met your daily requirements of any macro at bedtime, go ahead and eat.
As far as your metabolism is concerned, it's not a consideration in this respect.
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to ironwill2008 again.
The only reasons not to would be if it gives you heartburn or if in shake form, wakes you up later to pee. Otherwise go for it.
go with some cottage cheese or casein protein powder
I always take protein before bed. Seems to help me sleep better.
I've done it both ways - never noticed any difference.

Having a steady supply of proteins for anabolism is never a bad thing, unless your muscles dont need it. Then it just becomes fat like everything else. Like ironwill said, if you have met your macro and calorie goals, don't bother. Because your metabolism is slower at night you will absorb more of whatever is in your system at night. There are some who say that a fasted metabolism is inherently slower, which is true, but it takes a prolonged deficit (much longer than one night) to cause your body to slow down beyond what it does at night anyway. In other words, no, protein before bed has no bearing on metabolism.

Beat me to it.
Repped.
Again.
Not sure about metabolism, but it makes me feel better the next morning and I do sleep better.
I feel better if I lose extra protein before bed.

I don't know about that but it sure helps me sleep instead of listening to my growling stomach all night long. :)

Totally!!
well whether it's myth or not i always have a shake before bedtime because a) it usually falls in my window of having my last meal so i usually have a shake with some pb in it to slow digestion throughout the night and b) i do believe that it helps keep your metabolism running since you're having amino acids flowing through your body while you sleep for 6-8 hours. so in my opinion, yes i believe it does work and is essential.
I would say no to a meal, but Ill often take a few scoops of disgusting cottage cheese - full of good slow absorbing casein - or a small shake, 1/2 of what I usually drink in the morning.
If you're eating lots of small meals each day, then it's probably a good idea to eat one before bed too -- and certainly one with protein. If you're stuffed from overeating dinner at Cheesecake Factory (not directed at you personally) then don't add to the damage with even more calories before bed. Extra calories will result in fat gain.
I always eat a cup of cottage cheese in the evening about a half hour before bed. Not really sure what if I need the extra protein, but it stops me from getting up and eating in the middle of the night and I love it, so it's not a big deal to me.

Good gracious man! What keeps me from waking up and eating is, well, the fact that I am sleeping.

I meant if I don't eat something before bed, I wake up in the middle of the night and snack. Since I have been eating the cottage cheese before bed I sleep all night and don't wake up hungry.
I like to sleep with some food in me, always have. No idea how my metabolism is affwcted
..
Many people take casein protein instead of whey before bed.
me still go with the old school broscience and have one ready to drink when i wake mid night for the bathroom.

if he does it long enough and posts about it here, then wouldn't it become a peer reviewed case study? :p
