How far in advance do you guys sign up for a meet? Thinking of doing my first meet in August but still haven't bought my membership yet
That isn't for a while. It would also depend how many lifters they'll take on/how big the meet is. If theres a cap I'd try for earlier.
-
Usually the day before the deadline every time
lol glad I'm not the only one
So to add to "list of ridiculous things I've seen at a meet":
- spotter for squat got a phone call and answered it while spotting

I hope this was a "Come over" / "I can't we aren't even done squat yet" / "My parents aren't home" / He sprints to his car sort of conversation

Oh yeah, I actually forgot about that. I remember watching it live, was so damn close too. Ray is just one of the best ever. His deadlift has improved leaps and bounds too, squat strength through the roof, so consistent at every meet, etc. Just keeps his head down and works and performs. Going to have an unreal legacy by the time he's done.

From what I've seen Eddie talks **** like crazy but is actually cool with hafthor and Shaw.
Andy Bolton is neat, but greatest lift in powerlifting? Idk about that.

Don’t know what fed you are going to but USAPL I didn’t have to have a membership when I registered.
My first meet was in November and I was able to register prior and wait til November so my membership was good next year.
Usually the day before the deadline every time
So hit or miss in Phoenix if you can do that.
Some of them will fill up in a couple of weeks of registration.
-
I usually sign up for a meet asap, then register for the fed a few days before the meet, if I'm not already registered.

I'm doing a USPA meet and I'm pretty sure it says we need to have the membership first

Wasn’t sure. Just knew if USAPL you could register way before membership.
But if USPA I wouldn’t know. Never looked into any of thier meets.
If you gotta have em at the same time that sucks.

None of the USPA meets I've done were like that. Do you have the link to register for the meet?

Nvm I just reread it and it said we need to have one. I just thought I needed to already have one since it asked for it

No worries. First meet. You’re learning.
Only reason I knew was cause I was talking to the meet director (via email) and she gave me the heads up on not getting membership til day of the meet cause it would fall into next years membership.

In USAPL, and I'm pretty sure USPA is the same, you simply need proof of a current membership the day you compete. On my entry forms, I put a spot to enter your membership number, if you have it, but it's not a required field. Some meet directors might make it a required field because they don't know any better or they just want everyone to get it when they sign up for the meet that way they don't have to deal with it the day of the meet. On the flip side, I know some lifters who will just put in their phone number or a random number into the field so they can still sign up without a membership.
Most meets I see these days are no refunds. So I like to wait as long as possible, and tell my lifters the same, to sign up for the meet. That way they don't lose out on the money if they can't get off work or get injured. Depending on the area, some meets fill up very fast though so sometimes you have to sign up like 5 months in advance.

USPA is usually at weigh-ins/equipment check. Which may be up to 24 hours before the meet.
So basically, you don't need it until you show up.

Sounds like the arnold events will be interesting this year. Good year for Thor. No Z also.
-
Z has a load of built up injuries stacking against him now. Z is not the Z of the past. Doesn't mean he still can't compete.
