And lol@ any one of these idiots trying to compare it to going to the gym or any other hobby. Covering yourself in gross meaningless drawing is not a hobby, tattoos were meant to symbolize cultural groups back in the day, now it is used to symbolize unemployable trash.
Who cares? I have 2, and I'll probably end up with a lot more when I die. Both of mine are completely hidden unless I'm wearing a tanktop/no shirt, and I plan to keep it that way. Here is a quote you guys seriously need to give some thought to (Wake up and Live will prob be my next tattoo) “Life is one big road with lots of signs. So when you riding through the ruts, don't complicate your mind. Flee from hate, mischief and jealousy. Don't bury your thoughts, put your vision to reality. Wake Up and Live!”― Bob Marley
Hmmm...so basically...YOLO? lulz

I got one about 6 years ago. I planned on getting more, but every time I see someone and their mom getting them, I don't want to do it.
Nothing annoys me more than people who have to talk about their ink. Nobody even knows I have one.

Lol do you honestly think someone having tattoos that they can COVER up with a long sleeve shirt which for any job that I am sure you deem as 'good' you would have to would stop them from getting it? brb nobody at work ever knowing. brb
edit- at wings. why do you care if a mother and daughter get tattoos? You should be getting them for you so it really shouldn't matter one way or another

Why is everyone without tats so butthurt in this thread? I've got 2 and not a single fuk is given. They both have meaning to me, and you can't see either of them unless my shirt is off. Lol at everyone saying people with tattoos are "conforming". Maybe people are just...... Doing what they want??? And they aren't worried about looking like a sheep in someone else's eyes, because they are gonna do whatever they want with themselves. If your doing it just so other people's perception of you is different then that is retarted. But if your doing it because it's personal and means something to u, who gives a fuk?
If u don't want a tat, don't get one. If u want a tat, get one. It's pretty simple IMO

I dont feel the majority of people get tattoos 100% for themselves. I think its 50/50. 50% to show off, talk about it to others, connect with other people who have tattoos, show to people who dont, and feel that significance feeling. If tattoos were somehow magically only seen by the person who got it, I doubt many people would get them as ironic as that sounds. There are many strong connotations around tattoos, depending on what you've personally heard. And yes, that will affect your choice to get one.

Yea i guess. i got mine for me and if someone else sees them and brings them up and wants to have a conversation about it then i am all for it. but it also wouldn't bother me if nobody saw them. just like i don't care what people think of my hair. I cut it how i want, which just happens to be buzzed

Most people don't do it for themselves...they say they do. But they don't.
If you're doing it for yourself you won't say "yeah i'm gonna get one but i'm not sure what to get."
If you're getting a tattoo for yourself you already know what it's going to be and you know the meaning behind it. Not some ****gy ass tribal tatto around your bicep. There is no way a sleeve or tribal tattoo is for you. Because it has NO meaning whatsoever

a sleeve can have meaning if it is a lot of meaningful things designed into a sleeve...or just a larger design. Say a military member who gets a half sleeve of americana art

I am referring to the people who cover themselves like the guy I originally attacked. Although I would never get even the smallest tattoo myself I can understand and wouldn't judge someone for having a small one on their chest, back etc... However when you have one large enough to cover your entire arm/back or having several of them (more than 3 really) that is when you get into the trashy category.
A tattoo is just one vehicle many people take in order to reach a level and feeling of significance. For some it only lasts a few months before people stop caring and asking about the tattoo, or the person simply doesnt feel unique by it, so they get another.
Strong assumption of everybody in the world that has got a tattoo. I personally did not get a tattoo to feel significant, although I admit I did START bodybuilding to feel significant, I don't continue it to feel like that anymore.
The main thing that is pissing me off in this thread is the stereotyping of people with tattoos.. 'they cant get a job, they are a burden to society, they got it too look cool etc' this has to be the biggest load of crap I have seen, if anything one thing I have learned since getting my first tattoo at 17 is not to stereotype people anymore so infact I am thankful that I got tattooed so I learnt that.

Yeah I completely agree brah, that's why I said if you aren't doing it for yourself it's retarted. But I disagree with the sleeve. I have seen some amaaaaaaazing sleeves done that look awesome and have a ton of meaning in them. It's just a matter of personal choice. I for one would never get a sleeve because, A: I don't have any ideas for that lulz, and B: I don't want blatantly obvious tattoos showing. No matter what people say, you will be judged by the fact that you have a sleeve, and it will affect your career path in most cases (sad, but true)
Edit: but I personally dont hate on people with sleeves at all, unless u can tell its some ****gy time douche that has clearly put no meaning in it. But otherwise all the power to them aha

99% of tats look like dogsh.it

I love that its getting more and more popular. Coming from somebody that never thought he would have any tattoos.
Tattoos and tattooing is one of the most unique things in this world. Seriously, in what other business in this world do people pay for something that they will have on them for the rest of their life (and will be there till it becomes worm food). Its ****ing awesome!! And how many other things can you say will be right their with you for your entire life. They will be their through girlfriends, marriage, divorce, kids, your mom dying, your dog dying, job promotions, etc. Hell I cant think of anything so permanent. People get caught up in the whole "well you have to be a biker or rockstar or thug to have em". Would you say the same thing to someone buying art to hang up on their wall? A lot of people sit there in their ignorance and think "lol at all of these losers getting tattoos that dont have any meaning". Art is art, and whether I want it on the background of my laptop, hanging my bathroom to stare at pen0r in hand, or if I want to shave my head and get it across my dome thats all it will ever be. Some people get art thats meaningful to them, some people get it because they like that type of art and want something sick to look at, some people get live.laugh.love written grafiti style across their face. I dont even really mind people getting ****ty tattoos tbh. Usually they have no idea its a ****ty tattoo due to a misconstrued sense of what tattooing actually is, and still love the hell out of it.
If you think about it the older generations that hate tattoos are dying off/retiring. The people we are working for (born in the 60s-70s) are in general a more accepting generation, and when we get older zero ****s will be given. Your still a bit of a dumbass if you go into a field that you know doesnt like the tattood image with tats showing everywhere. But anyone with any sort of common sense at all avoids that by getting them in non public places. Or they get ****ing blasted like a sick kunt, start their own business, **** **** tons of sloots, make millions, have hundreds of people working under their art covered asses (literally tattood butt cheeks), and laugh at the old stereotypes that people with tattoos were bottom rung unintelligent criminals.
I dont hear anyone worth their salt saying "oh man you shouldnt go travel the world those experiences will last your entire life and you might miss out on a few job opportunities and career advancements. I wouldnt do that you might regret it." Or "No dude I wouldnt spend your life savings to go into space for a day. You worked hard for that your entire life, and your gonna waste it on one thing. Thats not very smart. Why dont you just go on an expensive vacation to rome or something." But I do hear "I dont think you should get that tattoo, you might regret it one day, its a lot of money, and you might miss out on a job opportunity because of it". I hate the whole yolo thing for ruining this concept, but get the most out of your life. Experience everything you can. If you want a giant **** off tattood on your ass.....think about it for a few months, and if you still want it go get it haha. AT the very least it will be something you can show your kids when they turn 18 and you can all laugh at.
Lastly I will just leave these here.

Let people do what they want, it's their body you ******* and they aren't harming anybody by having it done. If you get offended by the tattoo then you are an idiot, it is just a drawing.
I personally will never get one (unless my views change of course.) I don't like the prospect of 5 years later regretting it because I no longer like it. I also don't like my aesthetics (disregard no avi) being covered up by anything.

I have a full polynesian sleeve and it was one of my first tattoos, I got it because I love the history of 'Tatau' and fell in love with the design, that's a meaning to me regardless of what you or others say.

Definition of hobby - An activity done regularly in one's leisure time for pleasure.
I have spent countless hours researching tattoos, I have spent countless hours getting them tattooed on my body and will probably spend countless hours more. How is this not a hobby? Yes tattooing did originate from cultural groups, but then again almost everything in the world originated from something that has now evolved into something else.

No tatts/clean skin here, but then again I don't know of anything I would ink on my body (open to the idead of getting tattoos if I had something special to tatt on me).

One day I will travel to Wat Bang Phra and get a sak yant tattoo.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yantra_tattooing
Yantra tattoos are believed to be magic and bestow mystical powers, protection, or good luck.[3]
In Cambodia, the tattoo is used for self-protection.[5] Cambodians believe a yantra has magical powers that ward off evil and hardship. The tattoo is particularly popular amongst military personnel. The tattoo supposedly guarantees that the person cannot receive any physical harm as long as they observe certain rules.
Yant designs are also applied to many other media, such as cloth or metal, and placed in one's house, place of worship, or vehicle as a means of protection[citation needed] from danger or illness, increasing wealth, or attracting lovers.
The worst thing is a lot of people get them for attention
brb now i can post pics all over instagram and ******** of my new tat
and most are generic skulls, stars or tribal designs
its pretty insulting to get a tribal design when you aren't even part of its heritage and know little about its true meaning.
i have a samoan friend who rages constantly about this
tatoo removal must be big business
