Tough Mudder / mud run and obstacle course (pics)

anyone ever done one of these? looks sick as fuk...def interested in trying it at least once

any training routines for this sort of thing or do people just sign up and go for it?

I am signed up for Tough Mudder in Miami Florida on March 2nd. I have 2 friends signed up with me, but would be great if I had a bigger group. If your interested in joining my tough mudder team in Miami Florida, March 2nd, send me a PM!!! I have been training the last 2 months..

Sprints, Circuit Training, Long Runs, and regular weight lifting. Aiming to be able to run 8 miles no problem, couple weeks before the event.

i remember hearing about some girl who did one of these in the paper back home. was crawling underneath barbed wire obstacle or something and cut her leg. continued the race. got an infection. lost her leg.

idk why these are gaining popularity. i've started seeing people in my gym "training" for these and they just take up space and do retarded ****. almost as bad as cross fitters.

ya sounds ****ty but **** like this happens all the time...theres was an article about soem bish who cut her leg out swimming in a lake while camping and some bacteria got in the cut and she lost her leg and most her fingers

They have these all over the world can't wait to actually compete in one. Best sort of training ironically would be crossfit combined with endurance cardio since it's a mini marathon combined with a obstacle course.

if you can jog 6-8 miles youre good for tough mudder
there is a;pt of downtime at the obstacles


Be able to do pullups and muscle ups and youre good to go

Monday - Shoulders/Traps - 20 minute (semi fast run)
Tuesday - Legs (lots of sets, lots of reps, trying to get some leg power and leg endurance big part of tough mudder)
Wednesday - Back/Biceps - Lots of pullups/chinups etc
Thursday - Long slow run - 6 miles
Friday - Abs and cardio - I split my cardio amongst, boxing, elliptical and treadmill to get a mixture
Saturday - Circuit Training
Sunday - Long run 5-6 miles

I get chest in randomely, or on circuit training days

you get a bunch of **** for participating right? plus just a 1 time experience would prob be worth it

me and a couple guys were going to enter but a few of us are having our BFA Thesis shows (we go to art school) the next week so we have to set up or shows the weekend it is going on. Sucks but I guess I'd rather graduate and do it another time.

I've done quite a few different ones. They are pretty much all the same, some costing more or less than others. It's a fun thing to do, even better with friends. There's quite a few bishes that do it as well. So yea, doitphaggot.gif

Signed up for October in Houston.
I've been told to do hill climbs and do cardio on the stairstepper (sp?) since that's supposed to be the part that wears you down the most.
And also do pull ups, chin ups etc.

It's a one time experience thing plus doing it w/ a bunch of friends so should be worth the fun

Tough Mudder & Spartan Race brah checking in. Got Tough Mudder april 18th in Texas and Spartan Sprint may 19th in texas...they are insane amounts of fun, srs.

For the 3 tough mudders Ive done I finished in the top 5 for all of them, qualified for Worlds Toughest Mudder (24 hour race) but got a stomach virus the week of and couldnt race... I even traveled all the way to jersey, set up my pit area but spent the friday before and saturday (day of race) in and out of urgent care/hospital.

Spartan Race is harder than Tough Mudder because you get 1 attempt at the obstacles, if you can't complete an obstacle, you have to do 30 burpees. Also, you have a chip timer whereas with TM you keep track of your own time as its considered a "completion" event.

Running is important but so is lifting TBH....In all the obstacle races I have competed in I have finished in the top 2-3% but in "preparation" for them I wont run more than 5-6 miles at a given time...my priority is lifting weights.

People who are just runners get absolutely destroyed on the obstacles...its funny


Training:

Obviously do some running 4+ miles....go on a few 10+ mile jogs in advance just to get an idea for how long it is...do 10 burpees every mile.
Sprints
Run Hills and Stairs
Do pullups, Squats, lunges, mountain climbers, planks, pushups, burpees, hanging leg raises etc etc...and more pullups

They look like a lot of fun, but it seems like there are too many people on the course. Do you have to wait in lines at every obstacle? That seems like it would get annoying.

the one im looking at is 10+ miles not including the obstacles, most of which im guessing is through mud and up and down hills

I always start in the first heat so I dont have to wait in line. For Tough Mudder lines do form at obstacles but for most people they need the rest / recovery.

For spartan race lines usually don't form and there is no waiting

Did a 10k mud run a few years ago,my team took 1st by like 10 minutes. Was fun, didn't do anything special to train for it other than lift weights and do cardio. Not as big as these though, only like 500 people at the one I did.. pretty sure there is thousands showing up to these events throwing money down the drain.

this. can barely run 2 miles. guarantee il be stronger than 90% of em but my cardio is non existant

Did in Tampa (Sarasota) last year, it was phucking great. Dat water with ice was friggin fantastic, I could barely move my legs for a minute after getting out of it.

If you plan on going, tips:
lose the gloves on monkey bar
the last electric shock obstacle actually hurts, so try not to get hit by three or more or you're going down
