Good for you on deciding to check it out. Yup, I have watched a few videos on it and hope to make the trip one day as well. A friend of mine did it on a motorcycle and thoroughly enjoyed it, he said the biggest hazard he encountered was the haul trucks and the rocks they throw up, he said he would just pull over and they slowed a bit and he didn't have any incidents but did see some rocks the size of baseballs flying around.
Thanks Fish. Like I said, this country is not perfect. I think the two party system divides the people. Hell, it divides families. Too often, you are so blindly biased to your own party that you can't see (or refuse to see) the other's POV. The health care system leaves a lot to be desired. Elderly care is severely lacking. No place is perfect. But some are infinitely better than others.
I'd rather not say Corbi. I know it's ridiculous but I am still paranoid to speak out against my former country 40 YEARS LATER. There was a reason why we left that godforsaken place (beyond what I've stated) that I don't care to divulge. Even in this seemingly insignificant forum. But I will tell you this. We take a lot for granted in this country. For some people it's because it's all they've ever known. Young kids who feels entitled. Older folks who should know better.
I urge everyone to take a step back, specially now with this chaos all around us, and take a long, hard look at your life. What you've done, what you have, your family, your job, your health. You may find that you're doing ok after all.
I have not experienced anything you did as I was born in the seventies. However, I am very aware of what happened in previous generations even in Finland. My grandma told me once when I asked what happened to her dad that "whites made him dig his own grave and shot him". By "whites" I don't mean skin color but there were two groups in the civil war whites and reds.
It was horrific, violent, and brutal butchering of your own people. Just to think that since America has been great that nothing like that can't happen here, I'm just very wary.

Few things scare me more than civil unrest.

This is so fukked up, the state of NJ will arrest a gym owner for opening his business but people can riot and destroy buildings and police vehicles. The states are releasing prisoners because of covid but then jailing gym and hair salon owners?

Yeah, I still remember us having to put wet wash cloths on our faces to combat the tear gas. Freedom of speech? Say something bad about the President and you'll likely get arrested. Air pollution? People have been walking around with masks and bandanas to cover their faces since the 1980's. Government corruption you say? Hah! Where I came from it's expected! In New Jersey two gym owners were arrested yesterday for opening thier gym, they have proof of 13,000 people coming to thier gym and none had COVID yet they still got arrested, they are still not complying, these are my hero’s.
They can’t arrest everyone, don’t let your government tell you to shut up and wear a mask, we still got something to fight for here. The woman in Texas was pardoned by the governor for opening her saloon.
There is still hope, if you don’t back down!

And our wannabe commando OP, Nick Sandman (sp?) got his payday, that’s one for the good guys, you know the guys who don’t try and ruin someone’s life because they are white and wear a Trump hat. That was his crime, waiting for the bus and a group of rasicts start yelling at them and an old hippy Indian plays a drum in front of his face, he did nothing, the commies tried to take him, but failed.

One thing that scares the fuk out of me also is the total lack of appreciation of anything intellectual. Now Finns are pseudointellectuals but they at least hide their stupidity. I just saw this thread in the misc. about how a Norwegian bed and breakfast had to take down their Norwegian flag because too many people confused it with a confederate flag.
How is it possible someone not knowing what confederate flag looks like?
How is it okay to be so "woke" that you know confederate flag is bad even though you don't know what it looks like?
How is it possible that we cater to these imbeciles and remove the flag instead of demanding them to get educated? Please tell me..

I would love to have a Lapua someday. But in my AO, from a practical standpoint that caliber for me is overkill. But my next project is a 6.5 Creedmore. I shot 308/7.62 for years. Based on my research the 6.5 is the 7.62 twin but flatter trajectory. I am too old to do calculations in my head to compensate for bullet drop. LOL.

My friend shoots a .338 Lapua and I have shot it many times. I Shoot a 300 win mag, because of it's versatility in bullet weights (110–250 gr) I primarily use 180 grain and it has almost 1800 ft.-lbs at 500 yards, which is needed to take a moose down. I am very comfortable with it out to that range and my longest kill was 504 yards. Most of my shots have been between 300 - 500 yards, If I were to go beyond that I would definitely move up to the .338 but for me it's over kill, as I seldom get a shot beyond 500. I do like shooting it though. I bet you would enjoy the .338 My friend reloads and keeps me supplied in rounds which is a blessing because those big rounds are expensive.

I’m sure it would have been ok if that was a Panther flag or an X flag, btw, neither one of those flags including a Lynard Synard album cover or shirt offends me.

Grew up in the 70s and 80s in Italy where we had far right and far left terrorism galore. They were called "the lead years" for a reason. They'd bomb trains and train stations, public squares, anything. They'd get into shooting matches in the streets with the opposite factions. They kidnapped and killed or maimed business owners. Heck they kidnapped and killed the frigging prime minister! Oh and while all this was going on, we had the Palestinian terrorists hijacking every other plane and bombing airports. It was a frigging zoo. We even had a couple of failed armed attempts at overthrowing the government. At some point you just made peace with the idea that every time you took a train or a plane it could all go pear shaped.
Then in the 90s we had the mafia wars where different mafia families were "genociding" each other, killing every single member of the other family up to the 5th degree of relation. Women, children, elderly folks, wives, in-laws, anyone. Then the government said "enough of this chit" and put the military in the streets to stop the carnage. So the mafia went first on a killing spree of any prosecutor, law enforcement, reporter, and judge involved in mafia prosecution, including blowing up an entire section of the freeway to kill one judge. Then they went on a random terrorist spree with random bombings. I remember the judges, prosecutors, chief of police etc in their armored cars with army escort in toe zooming through the city sirens blaring, not stopping at anything: stop signs, traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, you name it. Fully armed soldiers at every corner.
So when people ask me if I'm scared of covid, I feel like laughing.

I’d like an AR10, my only .308 is a bolt gun. .338 Lapua would be fun somewhere really flat but IMO can shoot plenty far with .308/7.62 and having fast follow-up shots would be fun. There are a lot of fun wildcats too if you reload. My dad built a .17 predator which is a .17 bullet in a necked down .223 case. It’s a really fast flat trajectory bullet that is “fur friendly” since it just makes the .17 hole on entry and the bullet vaporizes and doesn’t exit.
Just stuffed ourselves at Monk’s. Burgers and cheese curds. Was awesome thanks for the recommendation. Now I’m going to plop myself into a hot tub while the kids play more.
