well considering female lions do the hunting, I think he'd do half way decent. might not win...but he'd do well.
they do all the hunting yes, and although lazy as hell the male is there to protect them. i cant get youtube up on this computer, but there is a video of when a female lion gets injured by a group of hyenas. the alpha male lion goes after the hyeans and completely pulverizes them within seconds....breaking thier necks. Reps to who can post that
you do realize those are females right?
The males are stronger.
Well domestic dogs tend to bite harder than wild dogs (serious, they tested it on Discovery Channel one time or Animal Planet or something like that)...but obviously wild dogs would be more used to fighting.
hyenas are scavengers not fighters
They also have a MUCH stronger bite though.
i honestly do not think a scared or pissed off pit would lose to a TD.
agree to disagree?
Oh I have no idea. You could totally be right, I'm just speculating. I don't know anything about TDs other than that they have taken down predators 3x their size. I was just wondering how it would do against a pitbull.

I already posted it in this thread

lol i have no idea either bro. i just have seen some HUGE insane pits before...i mean 120lbs of pitbull is a no joke site.

there is no comparison.
a pitbull has absolutely zero chance against a hyena, wtf

I agree 100%
I agree 100%
So do I, Hyena's are huge and tough to boot.
Looks like the average Hyena is about 100lbs
How heavy is the biggest (not fat) pit?
you do realize those are females right?
In the beggining the females got taken. Then in the end the males were tearing up the heyenas like little B!tches.
Males are almost twice the size of female lions. They don't do the hunting because there isn't usually more than one full grown male to each pride. He is the leader and protector of the pride.
I have a pit...a very small one(40lbs), and let me tell you that although she is the SWEETEST thing in the world and would never hurt a fly, if she decided to, I would be scared for my life. she doesn't feel ANY pain ever. If an 80lbs+ pitbull was up against almost any animal in the world, itd win.
sure everyone's dog is alpha until i piitb and they start whimpering and begging me to take it out

Go to muglestonspitbullfarm.c o m . They have named Goliath at 142lbs. More muscular than some of the noobs here.
I'm sure one of those could take a heyena.
Outside of Houston 2 pitbulls got loose, took down, and killed a full grown male horse. Just an FYI that pit are commoly used to hunt wild boar wich are hundreds of pounds and agressive/dangerous.
I am aware of the wild boar hunting as I do it once a year usually

pit bulls would have a greater chance at surving a hyena than a lion. there wouldnt be any member of the canine family that could survive a full fledge attack from a male lion. I love dogs and had a pit before, but lets be realistic, a lion is more than a one dimensional fighter.....it has retractable claws, bigger teeth, about a 350lbs weight advantage..where as a 80lbs pit bull just uses its head for an attack
you do realize those are females right?
In the end the male pwns! Watch some hunting videos on youtube. MALE LION > FEMALE LION. Basically the male lion is the pimp and he lets his bitches to do his dirty work but, when real **** goes down he takes on everyone and anyone easily. There was a giraffe video posted just yesterday where a whole bunch of female lions were attacking the giraffe but in the end the male lion took it down with one pounce
well considering female lions do the hunting, I think he'd do half way decent. might not win...but he'd do well.
Male lions are better fighters than the females. The females have to serve the food to the males because they are the servants, like women staying in the kitchen basically. The male lions have to go out and fight other male lions and kill them along with other predators to defend territory. The females fight prey all day, the males fight other predators. And to say a pit bull could fight either one is ****ing retarded, male lions can whoop ass against 3 or 4 hyenas each.
Bears pwn lions though. When they would have arena fights with animals they would do Bear Vs.Lion and the bear would take one swipe at the lions skull and crush it. High density bone(bears paw) meeting low density skull.
So do I, Hyena's are huge and tough to boot.
One on One hyenas are cowardly and weak. They would rather run than fight. They would rather scavenge than hunt.

I wouldn't say weak.
It sees that the pitbull and spotted hyena are fairly well matched and that the fight could go either way. I reckon that a trained pitbull would strike first, as the hyena would be more likely to size up its opponent before attacking. This would give the pitbull the advantage as it could kill the hyena before the hyena reacted.
John (http://www.faqs.org/qa/qa-3986.html) said that hyenas have stronger jaws than pitbulls do.
I had a question about a fight between a hyena and a wolf (http://experts.about.com/q/Wild-Animals-705/wildlife-matchups.htm). http://lists.claws-and-paws.com/pipermail/pa-furry/2002-May/002054.html states that hyenas are more fearsome killers than wolves and will kill and eat everything. Wolves go for the neck, while hyenas go for the legs, trying to break the hinds of their prey, causing much suffering and tending to disable the victim faster. Hyenas use their strong, bone-crushing jaws to latch on. The hyena holds on while the victim runs away until it is exhausted.
I predicted that the spotted hyena would beat a wolf, as it is much more powerfully built and has stronger jaws. I think that the hyena would have more problems with a pitbull. If the hyena could avoid the pitbull's first attack, it could win a fight, due to its greater strength and jaw power. I think the pitbull could win with the first lunge, as it would be more likely to make the first attack than a hyena would.
As regards fights between pitbulls and the other hyenas (brown and striped hyenas and aardwolf), I reckon the pitbull would win quite easily, assuming that the animals fought at all.

oh yeah i forgot about bears. this is another animal that would pretty much just snack on the pit bull. (in reference to the poster who claims he will match his pitbull against any animal)

The animal is from Africa. These kind of animals know how to survive. Size up the opponent? Wtf? I think animals from Africa are very good at "reacting." Watch the 2nd of the videos I post and someone else embeded the hyena was getting mauled by 2 male lions and it bit one of them in the lip and made it back off.
