Well, it is a rule that is not heavily observed, from the few IPF qualifiers that I have been to over the years.
And it is easily a total horse**** rule.
Yeah, I can't really think of any one fed that says you can't ask why you missed.

You will fit right in around here. Most of us exhibit numerous signs of blunt impact trauma, growing up under power lines, and living in homes where the lead-based paint was flaking. It is good to be an athlete.

Thanks. Out of curiosity what technically counts as bombing. Like unracking a weight and then it just falls because you can't support it? Or lowering a weight and not being able to start upward motion at all?

Bombing = failing to make any attempts for one particular lift = out of meet.
-
ok, yeah I never really knew what that meant and always just assumed. thx

Good Thread and it needs a bump IMO

Yeah. I'm strongly considering entering power lifting competition myself.
I was wondering what sort of weight would typically place in the 132 class.
Currently, my max bench is about 230
But I think my deadlift and squat suck.
Deadlift is like 285
Squat is... I dont even know. When I hit like 300lbs I almost feel like I'm not doing the entire motion. That and I'm scared to try and max <.<
-
Great post.
Any advice on warming up for a meet?
I think I'm gonna do my first meet in January.
-
i did my first meet in august this year..it was a pull only meet.
i going again 29. november on a squat and deadlift meet.
hopefully i will make 400 pound deadlift (180kg) and 330 (150kg) pound squat...

Who cares where you would place? I mean, I know you do, but your first meet you have so much other crap to worry about and learn, really, that it should be the last thing you are thinking about. Doing lifts under contest conditions is radically different than doing them in the gym.

Yeah, take your time, do most of your warm ups with lower weights, such as the bar, 95, 135, etc. Do not wear yourself out with heavy weight ahead of time. After 135, I jump to 185, 225, etc. but do only singles. At this point, I am warm, but my CNS needs to get ready to handle heavier weight. Always remember that warming-up is not working out, it is doing enough to get the maximal effort from your body without injury.

there's alot of money, time, energy, and pride sacrificed going to a meet just to possibly come in last place, just something I think more people should think about IMO.

Bah. First meet is a learning experience. Go and learn.
Hell, I have entered bench meets to test my PR's under meet conditions, and it is my worst lift.
-
Bizzump.
This should be a sticky, really. Whilst whichever mod is stickying this, feel free to rep me please. Srong rep beg.

True...but competing in your first meet is more of a learning expierence than anything else. I always approach my meets as trying to best my PR's and win my division...but my first meet was nothing but a learning expierence.
-
awesome. im joining my first powerlifting comp in 3 weeks. this has been very helpful man. thanks!
-
Thanks so much for this, Arlecchino. I've read several pl meet primers now and this is one of the best. My first meet is in a little more than a month and I'm gettin pretty stoked!
I think for my first meet I'll open with a weight I can do for 5, then a weight I can triple, then my 1RM. Gotta keep the ol ego in check... haha.
-
ok, im so excited now. my first meet is in 6 days. lol im opening on bench with something i can rep 8 times just to be sure. same goes for deadlift id imagine(never pulled for that many reps though haha) still deciding about squat though. Thanks yet again to all that contributed to this thread...helps a lot! wish me luck!
