Shoulder width is truly determined from the widest points of each medial delt, your right and left medial deltoids. Bone width cannot truly be considered the "real" width. However, no doubt clavicle length plays the biggest role in regards to the width of your shoulders. Broad shoulders also means wider traps (not bigger) Your traps would be stretched out. A good indicator from my personal view to find out if you're broad shouldered or not would be two things.
1). If you have to frequently move aside to let people pass and other general space related issues.
2). When your arm is hanging relaxed, there is a somewhat large space between your arm and the torso. It seems as if you can't ever have a relaxed pose with your arms touching your sides. Between your arms and torso there is always that "gap".
Go on google and type TNation wide man shoulders. There should be the link to this article.
I hope this has helped !

This is incorrect. Width is measured from the side deltoids. This is how an individual would perceive width. You cannot get "true" width from your back or shoulder lines.
If that's the case, then why do soo many bodybuilders work so damn hard to build their medial deltoids?
There would be no point then.
