Anyone think Dustin can get it done?
I'll participate, but as you know, my record is abysmal.
McG is supposed to be in great shape. But, I think the competition is gaining talent.
This will be a good test.
Should be a very good striking battle. Difference may be CMG's kicks IMO.

"I'm in his head"...lol....he said the same thing about Khabib.
Hopefully, Poirier sends him into his 27th retirement.
I think Poiriers only real chance would be to take CM off his feet and wear him down with periodic top control....
and then maybe slow down CM for the second half of the fight and trade with him...
I'm pretty sure Dustin won't get CM off his feet though..
McGregor stops him before the 2nd round ends !
Well, I was just reminded of McG and Poirier's first fight where McG TKO'd Poirier in the first.
But, Poirier might last until the 2nd as Mr. Ocean the Great American said so
Sadly, I've lost all interest in MMA/UFC and I've been a fan since UFC 1.
Is it because I'm getting old, or is just not the same since they started testing?

Chazzy, watch a few midget wrestling matches while blazed and you'll be back ;)

I have been watching the new season of Battlebots on Discovery. :)

The Main cards are getting old for me, I find the prelims are the best, something about those up and comers they want to make an impression and leave it all in the ring in many cases.
There is actually a Canadian that has shown some great promise, Gavin Tucker, I have watched him a couple of times now and he has made a good impression in the UFC so far.
I have been watching Bellator as well, McGregor is all over that advertising his whiskey, I am not a McGregor fan and hope Dustin can get this done.

Makes sense; thanks MTP. I guess I just miss the adrenaline rush of an epic, high-profile fight. Especially a big Vegas title fight. So many great fights!
I'll check out the prelims/undercards and up and comers. Cheers. :)
Just watched todays fights from Fight Island. They weren't too bad at all.
Anyone else catch them?
Now we're talking.
Usually on fight nights I'm doing damage control on Sherdog since I mod there..... but I have to keep up with this thread too.

My son is home from University, he is not going back I think because all his classes are online. He is a big fan of the MMA (he does BJJ)....so we are springing for Pay per view, normally he streams it.
I have gained interest in it from him, and I am impressed with the conditioning of these guys which may influence my fitness at some point (Boxing or something like it).
Anyway looking forward to it, hopefully not over in 45 seconds.

I'm curious to see what Chandler can do against UFC competition...
He's gettin thrown into the fire against Hooker, that's for damn sure...
CM's gonna walk through Poirier again..

Chandler talks a lot of shiit, but I'm also interested to see if he can back it up. I like to hear it, but like you, he is moving to UFC competition and will be interesting.

I also think Conor will take Dustin, not sure Chandler wil get through Hooker. I won't buy this PPV but will watch the Prelims which are sometimes better than the main card anyway. I would pay for Khabib vs Connor, but not to see Conor cross the ring and knock Dustin out.

The UFC just fired one of its top rising stars -- undefeated Ottman Azaitar -- after he allegedly committed one of the most INSANE safety violations we've ever heard.
Ottman -- who's 13-0 as a pro with some crazy highlight-reel knockouts -- allegedly stole a page out of a "Mission Impossible" movie to sneak an unapproved guest into the Fight Island area on Abu Dhabi, risking the health of EVERYONE there.
FYI, 30-year-old Ottman was scheduled to fight on the main card at "UFC 257: Poirier vs. McGregor" on Saturday night -- taking on 30-year-old Matt Frevola (8-1-1).
But, that fight was removed from the card on Friday due to a "health and safety violation."
So, what the hell happened?! Dana White explained to BT Sport ... and man, the allegation is bad.
"So [Ottman Azaitar] and his team cut off their wrist bands, gave 'em to somebody outside the bubble," White explained ... "I don't know how they even did it."
"That guy taped [the wristbands], showed up here [on Fight Island] with a bag, went into a room, shimmied across 4 balconies, went in [Ottman's] room, dropped the bag off, changed his clothes and then left."
WHAT?!!??!?!
Dana continues ...
"Now, when security tried to stop him, he wouldn't stop either way and yeah it's just bad."
Dana said he fired Ottman on the spot -- "He's gone. He's no longer a UFC fighter and he's not fighting [Saturday night]."
Wow.
The big question -- what was inside the mystery bag?!!?!? Our UFC sources say they have no clue at the moment. Guessing they're going to try and find out.
As we previously reported, the Fight Island area is incredibly secure -- with multiple COVID testing points and crazy security to keep everyone safe. One violation could compromise the entire thing.
We're reaching out to Ottman's camp for comment.
holy ****..
Karl will be pleased. :)
Good for Poirier . Dude brung it.

never thought in a million years Poirier could get Conner out of there !

Agreed, and with guys like Poirier and McGregor, it really can go either way in an instant. Glad to see Poirier win though because Conor is a douche....And the last thing I want is for him to end up with the title and hold it hostage again for another 18 months.

The way Chandler won, I'd love to see a match Vs Gaethje.. think I'd put my money on Gaethje in that one.

Some pure gold in there. :)
This went just as I wanted it to, Dustin winning, did I call it that way? Nope, I thought Conor would knock him out in the first round.

haha! w3rd. Enjoyed the fight. McGregor handled the loss well in the ring. In a perfect world, he retires from fighting. ;)

It's a different McGregor, I noticed that at both the pre and post fight conferences. Less yappy and more mature, not sure if it was because of the lack of crowd or he just grew up. It made him a little more tolerable.

Interesting. I stopped listening to him during the Mayweather clown show. Back when he was routinely getting high on his own supply.
I know the dude has a brain in there somewhere. Would be great to see him leverage his energy and influence to promote a fighter's union or the like, but I wont hold my breath.

That Dana holding baby McGregor one is awesome.
Oh I hear ya, I stopped listening to him as well, he is the main reason why I didn't pull the trigger and buy this PPV. Didn't want to listen to his loud pompous ass.
I noticed he was getting away from the extreme fight hype just before the Nurmo fight (slightly).
it seemed to me like he was done with fighting at the post fight presser, no fire.
Yup! I agree. If he's smart he will stop, he got some serious coin made and he can pursue other business ventures.

Might also be that he is humbled a bit given that he hasn't had a legit win in more than four years. I'm not counting the Cowboy fight because that was clearly bullsh!t.

That is definetely a possibility Karl, something changed him for sure
Ok, Porrier vs Chandler.
Who you gots?
I think I'd probably lean towards Chandler, but it looks like CM is talking about an immediate trilogy with Poirier and we all know CM generally gets what he wants.
I heard that CM was thinking about a third but didn’t know how serious, so thanks for confirming. I’m sure Chandler will get his day. Dana owes CM a trilogy to see if his cash cow has any more money in him. ;)
It's hard to imagine that Conor would go out like this. I'd hope that this would light a fire under him and motivative him to show up for at least one more fight prepared. Who knows.
"I love seeing a loudmouth get knocked out."
That's Justin Gaethje explaining why he LOVED watching Conor McGregor get knocked on his ass by Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 ... and man, he's reveling in the Irishman's defeat!
"I don’t feel bad for him," Gaethje told ESPN's Brett Okamoto ... "I’m happy for Poirier. I’m happy Poirier went out there and did his job and finished him."
"There is nothing that makes me happier. Seeing a piece of s*** get put down? That was great. I loved it.”
Gaethje -- who's previously told TMZ Sports that McGregor has been ducking him for years -- went on to explain why Conor is delusional if he thinks he still deserves a title shot in the UFC's stacked lightweight division.
"What do they have him ranked at, #6? I think he should be ahead of [Tony Ferguson] in the rankings. But, for him to come out and say he wants a title shot next? A rematch versus Poirier, or his coach, they are f**king idiots."
"[Conor has] been treated special over and over and over and he didn’t capitalize on this opportunity. That event was for him, that event was for him to win, and he wants to be Mr. Humble now??? But, you know he would be an ******* if he won that fight."
There's more ... Gaethje, who's currently ranked #2, says he would think about leaving the UFC if Conor gets to cut the line for another title shot.
"That would be preposterous," Gaethje said ... "For one, he’s sitting at #6. He’s won one fight in his entire life in the lightweight division, and he picks and chooses who he fights. So I have no respect for him in that manner."
Gaethje says he still wants to fight Conor -- but "I don’t think it should be my next fight.”

Cub Swanson returns on May 1st. "Killercub" takes on the Canadian Gavin Tucker in a Featherweight bout.
This should be a good one, I have been watching Tucker for a while now, his last fight against Billy Quarantillo was impressive.

Props to ya for following undercard fighters..
At this point of his career I hear the name cub and I think of a journeyman/gatekeeper...
I'm semi-excited about Burns/Usman coming up only because if Burns can't beat Usman, I don't see anyone on the horizon beating him and Usman's fights are a lot like watching paint dry.......they're just freakin boring !
Miocic/Nganno II also peaks some interest that's coming up soon...I love Stipe but something tells me Francis connects with something big........and sets up yet another trilogy !
I want to see Usman vs Izzy at a catch weight.
I'd love to see it too..
At this point the UFC is so bland, that just about the only thing I really wanna see is champ v champ fights..
Izzy's the modern day Anderson Silva...no doubt..problem is the rest of the 185 division is just less than average...
IMO, drug testing killed the UFC.
Bloody shame.
IMO drug testing didn't kill the UFC as much as the expansion of it all...
it got too big about 7-8 years ago with all the international cards and TV deals ..
Yes, but the stars with skills and charisma couldn't maintain the conditioning over time without chemical assistance. Those are the fighters people pay to watch.
Who cares if they're juicing. They're punching each other in the face, ffs. Not exactly a role model sport.
and they grew too fast. I think Dana is quoted back in the day saying the UFC will one day be bigger than the NFL. :)
