Maybe he shouldn't have sandbagged the record at every meet for years in a row lol
Agreed. I think his time is over at the top. A couple guys are just flying past him and I doubt he can keep up. He's been at it for too long.
-
Unless someone beats his total, Malan is still king. He's the only guy to hit 2500+ raw and he's done it twice with plenty of room left. Dude disappeared for like 2 years and everyone thought he was done. Came back and pretty much pissed on everyone. So in terms of the total no one has gone past him yet.
Petr Petras and Eric L have both come close to 2500. Vlad needs to hit a big squat and dl on the same day since his bench "sucks". Ray will probably do it without wraps one day.

Thats true, He still won both big dogs comps. I was strictly speaking of squat though. But even then, who knows. He may squat 500 too.

I don't think its gonna happen

Curious about Garret Blevin's new coaching system that he has called AI training. It seems pretty affordable.

That's what I've been doing, just running Candito's 6 week program for my squat and deadlift along with a custom program for my bench given to me by the owner of the gym I go to.
I was just curious cause I know Blevins is a respected lifter and coach. Watching his YouTube video on his coaching and AI program seems pretty cool with what all goes into it.

I feel like unless you have a real serious coach figuring stuff out your own or with the help of some sort of mentor is the best way to go.

That's definitely a good learning process. I know for me I've had to learn a little more cause I would tend to depend on just programs I'd find online to run. I still do that but have been reading more and more into the programming and why it was made, etc.
You see Vlad's 500 in comp????
No I haven't. I don't really watch any raw stuff but was just trying to join in conversation, guess I made myself look dumb?

with how deep PLing competition has gotten in the last couple years and how many insane lifts and totals are being put up nowadays, it's easy to forget this.
I had legit forgot he's gone over 2500 before lol. That's fuking insane.

Been doing this a lot the past little while, mixing different methods and taking pieces from programs that have worked for me, and it's going really well. Theres some **** I wouldn't even necessarily agree with from a traditional programming standpoint (if I were outside looking in), but it seems to be working for some reason. Go figure.
Started doing reverse band deads about 6 weeks ago and they're working really well for me. Going to throw them back into my next training block.

Anyone else disappointed in the Arnold’s Pro Bench comp?

Nice. I find if you have a variation or something that clicks and really works it's nice to be able to roll it in every 3 blocks or so, hammer it hard, let it drop and kinda resensitize to it then get some more big gains from it. Blocks pulls seem to do that for my DL.

Speaking of coaches/coaching....
What would you guys say is a good point to get a coach? I seem to have an internal battle with myself with wanting to get with a coach (also maybe wanting the most "cutting edge" programming) vs just running the program that I'm currently running that's free. I'm hesistant to work with a coach due to the fact that my numbers I feel aren't worthy of a coach at this time.
I'm not one to be the brightest bulb when it comes to programming, what to program, when to, etc, etc.

Good interview. Dan is looking so thick lmao. SAid hes 258, going to be cutting to 242. Big numbers inc.

how wide do you guys grip on bench? I used to have my ring fingers on the rings then I started benching with a close grip bench for a while and was able to get 245x3. I started playing around with my grip gain and tried with my middle fingers on the rings and it feels pretty good

My grip is closer than most people's close grip. My comp grip is ~2-3"s outside the smooth, and close grip is index on the smooth. Keeps my shoulders happy.

Used to be pinky on ring. Am now pinky just inside of ring, for no apparent reason.

Man, it sounds like you are thinking waaaay to much about this. As I always have said on here if you want a coach get Josh Bryant. He knows his ****. If a program is what you are looking for check out Blaine sumners book, he has a few well setup 12 week programs in there. Other than that, **** it lol

Dan Green said he's doing a full power meet in three weeks...stoked to see him back. Said in a recent vid hes about 258, cutting to 242, as I posted above.

Oh trust me I tend to when it comes to my training. I tend to think "oh well this is the latest and best way to train since this guy is pretty damn knowledgable and accomplished so it must be worth it". I definitely agree with you on that front.
Thanks for the wake up call so to speak lol.

Used to bench with my ring finger on the rings but im going to give max width a try for a few weeks. Long arms crew.
I've also been playing with this grip technique lately and really like how it feels, so I'm going to try it out for the next little while.
Kept giving me errors trying to imbed (see below)

I saw this video as well and have will give it a shot today. Is it pretty much just a bull down grip? Are you internally rotating the wrist that then in turn internally rotate the elbows?

Depends on your financial situation and how serious and/or competitive you are.
If you enough plenty of disposable income and it'll make you happy then fuk it why not?
If you just do it as a hobby and enjoy the process than just do your own thing.

I've done just about every grip over the last 6 years or so. Max legal wide seems to be the strongest, but whenever I train it for more than 3 months I get a bad pec strain. Middle or ring finger seems to be the sweet spot for me for long-term.

It's pretty damn affordable in regards to what's being offered. It's $1 for the first 4 week block then $28 every 4 weeks (4 week blocks of training are given to you).
That first 4 week block is just a copy/paste 4 week set up. After that you submit your 4 week training excel log, answer a questionairre and the AI adjusts your next 4 week block based off your feedback. That's when things get custom tailored which is why I'm interested.
We'll see though but definitely appreciate the insight for you guys. I'm wanting to get back on a platform again so I'm definitely serious about my training. Even if I wasn't planning on doing a meet I still take it seriously.
