so much for chevy bragging that their ECU was uncrackable
I think Chevy knew it could be broken and that they made it so. Ford made the Mustang the most versatile, after-market-friendly car in history.
It was a challenge for shops like Hennessy and as TAWS6 said that East Coast Supercharging and others to crack it, crank out more performance and sell more cars.
the v8 hasnt been dying out because of EPA, its because people don't buy them that much anymore. as long as it sells Chevy will still make v8's for the foreseeable future, there's nothing that inherently inefficient about a v8 and i'm sure Chevy has a few tricks up their sleeves to beat the EPA if they have to.
GM always has tricks up their sleeve, i mean they incorporated the 1-4 skip shift features on the V8 manual cars back in the day to help with CAFE. The corvette was the first to have this feature. And of course you can always buy the 25 dollar harness to eliminate it or just disable it in a tune.
If there's any company i have faith in in offering V8's for as long as possible, while being relatively affordable, reliable, power and fuel efficient, it's GM, or chevy. However i do also believe the environmentards will find some way to get these V8 cars off the road and start moving towards small FI 4cyl with a hybrid system or just pushing every manufacturer to end all ICE engines by so and so year. 2030 or something and start offering 75% of their lineup as EV.
It's inevitable but hey, we gotta enjoy what we have now. That's why i got myself another V8 for a daily, still didn't pick it up yet though LOL. But i will possibly next month or so. I really don't wanna go to the dealer to sign with the virus going on and i am definitely not having them delivery the car to my house. My co-worker just did that 3 weeks ago and the car became phucking defective. Now he's in a small battle with the dealer about that. So not going that route otherwise the car would be in my driveway now.

The things they don't mention is, or was, the ECU can be cracked from the start. But of course these guys with shops that make youtube videos obviously can't say that otherwise they're in deep chit. But you'd be surprised how early, and easy, they were able to unlock the C8 ECU.
The C8 z06 is going to be absolutely bananas. I'm so phucking excited to get one.

Don't wait too long, they're not offering the manual for any C8 model lol.
I'm done driving manual. The chit phucking sucks now.

Can someone explain why chevy made the c8 ECU so hard to crack and tune, what is the purpose?

So they don't lose money.

Saw my first C8 today as it blew through a red light going at least 60mph in a 40mph limit in the middle of town. It was black. Sounded good :)

I've seen a red one around town with a black wing, looks pretty insane.

There's a guy in town with one already. Lucky bastard. Chit looks good though, i always see it. The guy is actually using it for a car and not some museum piece. It looks a lot better in person. In pics you can't see the sharp cuts and angles. And it appears "skinny" in pics. in person it's actually almost as wide as widebody C7's. The C8 widebody, aka z06 and higher variants are going to be INSANE.
Everyone will be a corvette fan soon lol. That's why corvettes are always talked about, even in non corvette threads haha

Yeah, I am sure it looks better IRL. Being that wide you'll have to be careful parking - especially at the gym.

I've owned widebody vettes (C6 and C7) for almost a decade now, i'm used to it. Plus they're weekend cars anyway.

I gotta say, as a long time Porsche owner, the C8 may the Vette that finally convinces me to look at one. It looks to be a truly impressive machine.

People chit talk the looks when in actuality, those same people didn't accept the C7 stingray when it first debuted. People don't like change. But eventually they come to their senses and learn to like. And if they don't, who cares lol. Don't buy one then. I find it more funny how the C8 affects some people who never owned or liked corvettes to begin with, saying the C7 was better. But yet...............they never owned a C7 either haha.
There are some pics of dudes with the C8 lowered on aftermarket wheels. TOTAL game changer. GM always make their corvettes ride like 4x4's. Idk why. When i lowered my car with aftermarket wheels, that was game over. I got so much attention like i was driving a ferrari. Even with stock ride height and stock wheels i still got so much attention. But now lowered on better wheels, forget it. Definitely feels good though lol.
The C8 high performance variants will change the game for sure. More and more people, like yourself, porsche owners or guys who would only consider premium products like that, will now consider the corvette. Because now it's more premium. Better interior, better materials used, more exotic looking, more prestigious because the layout now, the DCT, the power plant, the looks with the up and coming widebody, the flat plane. Sheesh i can go on and on lol.
We welcome all new corvette fans :D

Are any of these C8's going to be AWD?
-
Are any of these C8's going to be AWD?
Highly doubt they would do that in a corvette. AWD is not needed IMO, the mid-engine placement is plenty to help with traction issues.... Then again GM is sloppy, so who knows.
-
Are any of these C8's going to be AWD?
The ZR1/ZORA might get the AWD version. Definitely ZORA. Especially if it's going to be a 1000hp hybrid lol.
This is insane. Good phucking job GM.

Well, I hope it's going to be "good job GM". Time will tell.
Well, I hope it's going to be "good job GM". Time will tell.
It will.
Chevy would never put the corvette reputation in the guillotine for this new generation.
They had 7 generations of success and they're not about to ruin it all, because they did chit ass backwards for the 8th gen. If anything the 8th gen will be the greatest corvette generation. Like look at how impressive the BASE C8 is lol. All the videos you're seeing online, of a base car being compared to cars with a lot more power, more expensive and more exotic lol. And there's several variants coming. Like GM didn't even give us all of it yet. They basically are giving us a lap dance with the base C8. We're going to be having multiple orgasms once the Z06/ZR1/ZORA comes out.
The final version of the corvette is here.

I wish it was possible to get one for a good price, Ive been looking and everyone wants huge markups over msrp
There was one dealer that had one in Bronze a few hundred miles from me that was just a 1L for msrp but it sold before they could even send me pics of it

Orders for 2021's are open now. You can place your order. Although most, if not all dealers want like a 5k deposit non refundable or something. That should secure the trim/options you want at the price you see when you order vs whatever is left on the dealer lot that a previous customer cancelled and the dealer marks it up like 10-20k.
I'd just wait for the C8 z06 at that point though. That's what i'm doing.

on a side note from the start i always thought he c7 bumper looked a bit off on some colors, like it wasn't part of the car, it was just pasted on. Other than that the c7 looks great. this guy prob has the best looking c7 rear i've ever seen

Ehh not a fan of that look honestly. It looks too much like "hot import nights" type of deal. Not ricer, but it looks more show than go.
The C7 front bumper looks better when you add the stage 2 or 3 splitter with the winglets to it. Stage 1 front end does look very plain.
But with the C8, with the widebody coming out, the fender flares will compliment the rear that people hate so much. Look at the C8R race car. It looks amazing from the back, because it's wide. The way the rear tail lights almost swoop into the rear fender flares. That's the goal.
I don't even think the C8 Z06 is coming in 2022 looking at the way things are going. People with 2020's are getting them in 2021. 2021 orders will probably shift to 2022. This is all going to slow or halt the progression of the z06. I think 2023 is when it'll come out now. I can't phucking wait anymore.
