Well good. I dont want it to end soon anyway after spending like 60 hours on the world map
Yeah i Remember Dollet well. Even Had the FF8 Demo disc with Brave Fencer Musashi. The music when your landing on Dollet in the demo was actually better than the game. Not sure what FF8 has to do with it though. That was a pretty linear game even by FF standards. There wasnt a lot to do when you get the Ragnarock
I meant you have 1 more world map to do boyo lol. It's easier than cosmo and gongaga tho.
I didn't mean FF8 was more open world I just felt like it had more tense moments and the overall story has more sense of scale. In Rebirth so far there's nothing super major happening for the whole story, you're just going from place to place with your friends looking for Sephiroth. I like seeing the characters develop but it's missing set pieces and crazy chit happening that makes you feel nervous or on the edge of your seat.
-
One other comment I have about the game so far is it lacks in a huge world story. Like besides following Sephiroth around there's not many tense epic chit happening in the world.
My understanding is that this is true to the OG for this part of the game, once you leave midgar you're just going around trying to figure chit out there's not any super big plot points for awhile.
I actually liked that vibe about it, most of the game is just a roadtrip with your friends and finding chit to do.
The robbed men are fuking hilarious to me for some reason too
Mirin the no life

I really enjoyed it so much I wanted to do everything I could. Most of the 'samey' stuff is relatively quick and its an excuse to run around the map and keep bopping to the theme music if nothing else.

Yeah I'm not complaining too much, just being nitpicky. Story is very fun, I think I just personally like when open world involve the world a bit more. Like in Witcher 3 there's a huge war coming, then there's the Wild Hunt army destroying towns. Horizon has a major Civil War and a super advanced AI trying to destroy the world. Even FF Remake had the war with Shinra and the toppling of the plate.
Rebirth just lacks a sense of urgency imo.
Anyways date night with Tifa was great. She's the best mane, I feel sorry for anyone who didn't get her on the date. And just when I was in a really happy mood after the date I activate a new side quest that has me GO BACK TO THE SAUCER to get even higher scores on the minigames. God damn it, whyyyy. I really thought I was finally done
Also, Aerith's voice actor for her song sounded nothing like Aerith lol

Yes welcome to a sandbox JRPG. The OG was the same.
I reached gongaga like 50 hours in. Savoring it. Doing all the intel I can.

Man I got my ass whooped in the 2nd Gilgamesh trials. Spent some time leveling up my materia and hoping I can win tomorrow. Damn.

Lawd idk if I have it in me for these updated minigames in ch. 12. Cleaned up everything heading into the saucer again but fuk man.

I got some bad news. Hard mode minigames were extremely taxing, the chocobo races took hours. Some of the other challenges were really frustrating.
And a mini spoiler which I know you won't care about..Later on there's even a final side mission that has you return to a few of them again. Yes, AGAIN for a 3rd round of high scores. I finally finished that quest tonight. There's a few battle arena challenges and a bunch of VR ones but I'm not gonna bother. The Gilgamesh trials were rough and these last battle challenges are even worse. At least I finished all side quests, world activities and minigames.
I'm tapping out here. I had my fill of difficult challenges. Time to go on the last mission to the temple and finish out the story. 134 hours as of now. Great game but I'll look back on it in a bittersweet way imo. So many great moments, so many frustrating ones lol.
-
I've been thinking, my main team is Cloud, Tifa, Aerith. They are my favorite characters and I also prefer their abilities over the others. But besides Cloud, Barret is my favorite character to actually play. Why? Because I don't constantly have to be pressing square lol and compared to Aerith his bar fills up much faster.
Imo the gameplay would have been way more fun for me if holding square does the basic combo instead of having to tap it so many times. Esp when it comes to Tifa. I wish the game had a setting for that. Damn.

Man the last chapter was such a slog to get thru and wasn't fun at all. I also hated the ending with a passion. Gonna have to drop my overall score to a 7/10 and I still think that's generous and it's because I enjoyed the characters, music and I appreciate how many things they put into the game. Obviously there was alot of effort involved even though I didn't have the most fun with it.
It's been a long 150 hours but I've had enough and it's time to move on to something else tomorrow.

Thats too bad. im underwhelmed myself and im the biggest FF fan

Yeah I guess after reviews came out I just let all the hype get to me.
I'm thinking back on it now and I think the part I had the most fun was from reaching Junon into Costa del Sol. Everything was so fresh back then.

if this is a 7/10 to you, it just isnt for you anymore.
Its not a perfect game but its widely regarded as one of their best and will be a GOTY contender.
Some people will never be happy.

you clearly are not. If you didnt like this game, you arent a fan anymore. This game is objectively very high quality. If you're underwhelmed it isnt for you.

Finished all the new ch 12 side quests and started on the minigames. Think I just have to do the rest of the chocobo races, desert rush, and the last queens blood 5 round bullchit before I can move on.

Yeah, that's always the implication when anyone gives their opinion of a game. There is no "objective game score"
The last 3 years have been the best gaming experience of my life, it's been a period where I have been impressed by the most titles ever. Witcher 3, Mass Effect Legendary, Horizon, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, and TLOU series were games I only recently played and I found them remarkable.
There were some parts of Rebirth I really enjoyed but there are many things that bring the score down. The world activities aren't fun, the sheer number of minigames aren't fun, the locking best items behind highest rank of minigames aren't fun, the maps themselves are bland, they have nothing of interest that make you WANT to explore them. The pacing is horrendous.... But I was still willing to give it an 8 if it nailed the ending....except the temple was a huge slog and had no impact. What's even the fuking point of characters dying when the game beats you over the head that they are still alive somewhere else. It completely ruins the emotional impact of a death when a character dies and shows up in the very next scene. He Im in my 30s, I played OG FF7 and that scene in the original broke me. There was a finality to death. You knew this character was completely gone and you had to deal with everyone suffering and mourning the loss. In this game? Woops... Nah she's still here fam. Multiple universes n chiet, we cool lol
Horrible ending. Game is lucky I found it charming enough to only remove 1 point for that disaster of an ending.

The ending is open ended, I don't think your interpretation is necessarily correct.
I would have preferred something more clear but it wasn't nearly as bad to me as some people make it out to be

Imagine playing 150 hours and not knowing wtf even happened in the end because it was some convoluted multiverse kingdom hearts 4 bullchit. And I'm a FF 7 veteran.
Then imagine someone new who's getting into this series for the first time. Lmao they're fukked.
It was a CHIT ending. What's the point of anyone "dying" when they're actually still alive. Can you explain how the ending of Rebirth had the emotional payoff of the OG Aerith scene?

It very obviously doesnt have the emotional payoff, cause arguably she's not even dead.
Like I said, I definitely would have wanted a clearer ending as to what the hell is going on but I think some people make it out to be much worse than it is.
This is my first time with the series, I never played the OG and I dont think I'm any more confused than anyone else. So I dont think thats a factor.

*Insert joke about the real reason you like Barret here "coal man"*
But i will agree with you on the little side missions. Im a completionist so i like to do them, but at times it's like ugh. Ive been slow playing just because of life, so i just effectively cleared 90% of the Junon region stuff. Seems super repetitive and sort of low energy time killers. The other thing i see is that im so over-leveled for the story stuff because i have done the side quests and fun stuff.

Red is a must have in my party. He packs a wallop. Surprising good amount of damage.

I usually stick with Cloud, Barret, and Tifa. Aerith is great but her atb is so fuking slow to build. Yuffie is pretty solid to. I don’t care for the play style of Red or Cait enough to use them outside of times where I have to.

@being overleveled that's why I played on Dynamic difficulty. I was able to complete all the side activities because I also like to complete stuff but I never became overpowered since the enemies scale to your level in that mode. Grinding to get stronger still happened but it was all about leveling up materia.
I feel bad for you son, you're only in Junon getting burnt out with the repetitiveness. Pepper your angus lol

Oh im sure every area for the rest of the game has the same "side missions."
The story is still bringing all sorts of nostalgia to everything. Just meh about opening it because of the repetitiveness.

Yeah Barret is def more fun to play because Aerith's ATB sucked but she is very powerful due to double cast and her insane magic power so that's why I gave her the accessory that starts her off with a full bar. And also the first strike materia and the right weapon skills so I'm starting every encounter with 2 bars essentially. Allows me to insta cast radiant and arcane wards.
Also synergy materia just had her casting spells nonstop on enemies while you perform actions with Cloud and Tifa, she was absolutely wrecking enemies by endgame.
